A marathon Saturday of World Cup action climaxes with the fourth fixture of the day, as Nigeria take on Croatia in Kaliningrad. Kick-off in this Group D encounter is at 8pm.

Though the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Luka Modric, Mario Mandzukic and Victor Moses will be on show, there is only one place to start: Nigeria’s £4.0m-rated goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

The budget custodian has been selected by 12% of those playing McDonald’s FIFA, having established himself both in the Nigerian team and as a fund-freeing Fantasy asset.

Wing-back Bryan Odowu, also priced up at £4.0m, offers the same appeal to Fantasy managers looking for a cheap fifth defender who is guaranteed game-time.

Though Nigeria qualified for the World Cup in style, scoring more goals along the way than any other African team who made it to Russia, their form in recent months will offer plenty of encouragement to Croatia: the Super Eagles have lost their last three friendlies against European opposition, scoring on only one occasion.

Though not as cheap as the aforementioned Nigerian assets, Dejan Lovren‘s modest £5.0m price tag has attracted the investment of 8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers.

Croatia’s backline kept six clean sheets in the UEFA qualification group stage (and another in the play-off win over Greece), conceding on just four occasions in their ten initial fixtures: only Spain and England had better defensive records.

No Croatia player assisted more goals in World Cup qualification than Luka Modric (£9.0m), who is the only other Croatia asset with an ownership greater than 2%. The Real Madrid star, selected by 5% of McDonald’s FIFA managers, is not part of a team that excels at set-play situations though: the Croats had fewer goal attempts from set pieces per match than any other European team during qualification (31 efforts in 12 matches).

If that was true, yes. Obviously.

However..you get a wildcard after the group stage, before the round of 16. After that it’s not unlimited, but the number of transfers does increase each week for us.

There’s no right answer to this.

Well Switzerland are pretty decent as well, particularly at the back. And to compound things, Germany have quite a few who could score and Jesus might only play 70 minutes. Definitely a tricky decision. Cheers RD

Agreed it's a tough decision. I have Muller but there is a big part of me that thinks his scoring days are over. If so I'll transfer him out. I want to see how he does in this game first though as I hope I'm wrong. My gut tells me I'm not though so I'm going with Jesus I think.

Yeah I've got it on Jesus at the moment as I think that even if he does only play 60-70 minutes he has a better chance of scoring. Mind you I haven't been that good with my predictions so far in this WC so should probably go the opposite 😉

I’d stick with Griezmann personally. He got 9 right ?

So even if Lukaku scored two goals you’d only be 1 point up on the captain and you’re risking losing the 9 for a tiny gain.

that makes sense, seeing as he was one of the best players today. In the end it doesn't really matter, it's whoever Messi wants to play with. That's why you still have Mascherano and Di Maria playing when there's better options on the bench.

Meza was decent actually, far from the weakest link in Argentina's team. Won the penalty, made some good runs etc.

Pavon ? Pretty sure there was Spanish defender called the same.
Not that it matters or brings any value to the disscusion.

Something I love about this England squad is the fact players are competing at all positions. Only Kane is safe, and even then game script could mean he could come off.

Remember the old teams when the Old guard meant that 9/10 maybe even 11 spots were almost guaranteed due to “undropable” players.

They used to pick the best 11 players and then try to fit them into a team. So different now, I’m really optimistic long term

      1. Richd
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 3 days ago

Yeah exactly, which means players are competing for their spot, which can only be a positive.

I guess it’s partly due to no superstars (again maybe aside from Kane).
