The World Cup takes a break on Friday for the first time in over a fortnight, with the round of 16 commencing on Saturday afternoon.

The lull in action is a welcome respite for Fantasy managers as serious thought can be given to what is effectively a compulsory wildcard, with both McDonald’s FIFA and Fantasy iTeam offering unlimited transfers between the culmination of the group stage and the start of the knockout rounds.

Although the round of 16 fixtures will be the prime concern, Fantasy managers ought to take the quarter-finals into consideration given that only three free transfers are permitted (any more will cost points/credits) before they begin.

READ NEXT: The complete guide to set-pieces and penalties for World Cup Fantasy knockout stages

Up to four players can be selected from one country in both Fantasy games at the last 16 stage, though some Fantasy bosses may wish to spread their selections across several nations given the restrictions on transfers before the quarter-finals begin.

Fantasy managers will have already noticed the price rises – and drops – in both our featured World Cup games, though in McDonald’s FIFA at least the allotted budget increases from £100m to £105m for these knockout rounds.

Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.1m), Harry Kane (£11.1m), Diego Costa (£9.1m), Christian Eriksen (£9.1m), Philippe Coutinho (£9.1m), Denis Cheryshev (£5.7m), Andreas Granqvist (£5.1m), Diego Godin (£5.6m) and Fernando Muslera (£5.6m) have all increased in price in McDonald’s FIFA, though no player has risen more than £0.2m.

Lionel Messi (£11.9m), Olivier Giroud (£8.9m), Willian (£8.4m), Dele Alli (£8.9m), Nicolas Otamendi (£5.9m) and Kyle Walker (£5.9m) are among the big names who have suffered a price drop, meanwhile.

Members can read on for this round-up of the Opta data from the group stages. The data itself is available to members as part of their yearly subscription and obtainable immediately after the end of each World Cup match.

am looking to play bb as well. tho my team is well balanced, i dont see another round i will get the chance to play with a full bench.

      nice team but:
      kdb - hasn't been contributing
carvajal - not impressed with Spain defense but he has good attacking threat

I would go Subasic instead Muslera. Croatia conceded only one goal from penalty and that was with reserves. Their defence is very good and they have great players to shutdown Eriksen. I cant see Denmark do much in that game tbh.

Uruguay has great defence but CR7 is big risk, if he has a day he can score a couple.

Just something to think about 😉

    Opinion on this draft:

    Pickford (non playing GK)
    Alba / Meunier / Trippier / RRod / Granquist
Isco / Coutinho / Eriksen (Inui, Sanchez as fodders)
DSilva (worth be different?) / Hazard / Neymar

Me too, but there is not a lot of cheap midfielders to chose from. Claesson maybe? Quintero probably going out. And then you must take them out, but for who?

THAN, in next round if its nesesary you can have non playing one IF no transfers left but you dont know who will be out. What if for example your only GK is out?
Having 2 playing GK gives you more chance

Which two GK`s? If both cheap go out, you can`t upgrade one to 6.0 so easy.

I see what you written above but Im not so sure about this strategy as you have 3 FTs after R16 so heavy bench means you potentially need a lot of FTs to repair whole team

Does anyone had returns from all his players and he didnt had to use subs??

I think you allways need subs in this game as for example I swaped 1p Ronaldo(vs Iran!) To 9p Khazri/6p Quintero etc.

You never know who will give points as big hitters blanks guys.

    RMT

    Pickford Olsen
    Carvajal Maguire RRod Granqvist Lang
    Isco Coutinho Modric Inui Lingard
    Costa Kane Hazard

Theory: Spain and England should have easier runs to SF
Avoiding Fra/Arg/Por/Uru as no clear favourites. Have chosen one of Cro/Bra/Bel as all favourites to make QF at least. Also Pens Takers.

Users would have to be able to opt in or out to notifications, and letting mentioners know whether their subject had opted in would never clear privacy regs. Would end up being same roll of the dice that a mention is now, with opted-out users accused of ignoring mentions they never saw etc.

I see your point, but as long as the notification is tied only to name mentioning it should mean less spamming, but yes the other part is an education to the mentioner, who may not appreciate a non response if the mentionee doesn't respond. Personally I'd find this useful (but then again I'm not around enough to get mentioned anyway!)

The lyric is "football's coming home" - the World Cup references in the song are simply because they are reminiscing that England did once win an international competition, and can do so again. The song was released for Euro 96.
