Pre-Season

FPL 2018/19 pre-season page is now live on FFS

Fantasy Premier League pre-season is well and truly underway at Fantasy Football Scout now that our official ‘Pre-Season Tab’ is live on the website.

You can find it by clicking on ‘PRE-SEASON‘ on the toolbar above, or by CLICKING HERE.

Head over there now to check out all the FPL content we’ve produced so far this summer including Scout Reports on new signings, Moving Target articles on those who have switched allegiances as well as detailed research and analysis into the promoted sides and those back for another campaign in the top flight.

You can also find the complete pre-season fixture list for all 20 clubs. Southampton are the first Premier League side to play a pre-season fixture and as more and more of their rivals follow suit we’ll start adding the Scout Notes on those matches there so you can get an accurate fix on the predicted line-ups, goal-scorers and assisters for Gameweek 1.

We’ll be constantly updating the page all summer long so make sure you keep coming back to it. Every time there’s a new transfer who could do well in FPL or a pre-season encounter is played, you can read all about it there.

We already know several FPL prices for the new season and the game itself is expected to launch very soon so make sure you make the most of our content this summer!

Is the deadline still at kickoff of the 1st quarterfinal? And not an hour before kickoff?

My game says 16:00 CET, while I believe kickoff is actually 15:00 CET...so pretty much in time for the start of the 2nd half. haha.

If you look up the current CET it is 09:56.. Whereas according to their clock it'd be 10:56 😐

That obviously makes sense. Okay. I think it's due to summer time. So it's UTC+2 now. Google is showing CET as UCT+1. Could be wrong, but I think it's technically called CEST now from my minute of Googling.

Slightly alternative take on the -4 for a hit question. I'm undecided on this, but am considering a -4 from Granqvist to Trippier (I don't have any defenders apart from Sakai as fodder who are not in QF teams, and no England defenders). I've got 2 mids and 1 fwd, which I was thinking to use my 3 transfers on. No WC. I suppose I could keep my lowest dud mid and do the Defender switch, but it stops me from getting Mbappe and Modric.

So my question, is it worth a -4 for a defender switch on a defender I'm convinced won't get the points this round vs my replacement, and will be eliminated (so I don't use up one of my next transfers, and it allows me 3 playing replacements instead of 2)? Thanks for any replies in response.

What I would say is getting Sakai was probably a mistake, because it has left you in this position where you can't easily get 5 defenders.

Even so, I would say it's definitely not worth a hit. You need Trippier to outscore Granqvist by at least 4 points, which means you'll need a cleanie and an additional attacking return from him, and nothing from Granqvist which is objectively quite unlikely.
Holding Granqvist for this round isn't such a bad thing.

Don't take a hit. Pointless in this game. Especially for defenders

Thanks for the opinions - there is an overwhelming case for not taking a hit. Take your point about Sakai (though he did play in my team last round, and at one point was on for a CS!) - thinking there was a 3.9 value player to maximise funds for other players.

    FPL prices released so far:

    Aguero 11.0
    Firmino 9.5
    Lukaku 11.0
    Hazard 10.5
    Xhaka 5.5
    Neves 5.0
    Sessegnon 6.5 (mid)
    Sean Morrison 5.0

    Salah should be next.

I'm interested in Siggy, Zaha, and Auba's prices!

      4.5 - 4.5
      Robertson (6.5) - 5.5 - 4.5 - 4.5 - 4.5
      9.0 - Siggy (7.5) - Zaha (7.5) - 5.5 - 4.5
      Aguero (11.0) - Auba (11.0) - Firmino (9.5)

Zaha is definitely one to watch, hope he comes in under 8.0... a palace def or two should pay dividends as well...

Also what about Milivojevic! Superstar score at 5.5 last year, and will get loads of pens & FK’s from Zaha being fouled, hope he’s 6.5 or less and that’s cheap mid sorted

Him & Groß coming in at 13.0 or less for the pair would be sweet... plus Zaha as a 7.5 forward would help Zaha finally start getting some baps that he never gets as a mid... could have a nice little front 7 shaping up:

            4.5, 4.5 (9.0)
            6.0, 5.0, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5 (24.5)
Salah, Eriksen, Groß, Mili, 4.5 (41.0)
            Firmino, Zaha, ~8.5 (25.5)

I would like a United defender too, but finding a nailed on one sounds impossible without getting DDG - who may well be a good option if he's 5.5m.

Need to see Sané & Sterling’s prices... I reckon 9.5 & 10.5 respectively? Or could we get lucky & get 9.0/10.0?

There’s no way they could go 8.5/9.5, or 10.0/11.0, right? And I do think a clear 1.0 between them is about right, 0.5 would be too little given their scores last year, an d1.5 might be too much value for Sanè.

Great way into Man City attack either way! It’s already looking like a “light at the back” year lol

With many struggling to get out XI, hits seem likely. In FPL, many take hits without worrying, if they can only get 9 or 10 out.

But in World Cup Fantasy, what if you can get 11 out but only 11? With substitutions, does it make sense to make sure you have 12 playing, or maybe even more?

Since at least one player is likely to get 2 points or fewer, at what point will you stop taking hits?

No hit is worth it as soon as you have 11 playing on an average basis.

The lowest scorer of your team is likely to be a 1 pointer or even 0 pointer. If you have exactly 11 players to play, you can't sub him out. If the guy you bring scores 4-5 points, then hits pay off.

It does not change the fact that the new guy needs to outscore 4 points the lowest scorer in your team, which is likely 0-1 pointer

No, if the new guy scores 4 you are in minus. If he scores 5 you are just breaking even. Not a chance it is worth it without bonus points.

Depends on which player. Would you do Modric to Isco this round for -4?

I've put a lot of importance on having 15 strong players all tournament, and so far it has been wise.
I'm taking a single hit, so I still have 15 strong players.

Scores are low with few CS and no bonus.

Also, a short game. I can't see any hit being a good idea.

I have 12 with matches. I’m not taking a hit. I don’t see anyone hit-worthy, especially with just two rounds left after this one and 5 FTs for SF round. I’m hoping to advance maximum players to the SF, use my FTs, and have a full squad for the final two rounds.

Yes, its only really a 2pt hit! Take all the hits Geoff, give yourself more shots at the big score.

Yeah.. that's the way I'm leaning. Not too worried about going for a best rank either as it's not FPL

Can anyone offer any advice for the QF's and beyond, players that are essentially in your eyes and a couple differentials. Only got this morning to look at my squad so will make some cut-throat decisions. I will probably load up on players from:

    - France
    - Brazil
    - Croatio
    - England

      Lukaku Neymar Costa*
      Coutinho Modric Claeson Isco* CSanchez*
      Meunier Pavard Maguire Granqvist Ramos*
      Muslera Kawashima*

Should I wildcard? Basically 3 players & 2 fodders out

Is it worth saving and just use 3 transfers on the Spain players?

Totally left field and can’t believe I am suggesting this player but he has shown form and could be dark horse v Brazil- Fellaini

    Alisson Pickford
    Meunier Strinic Lovren Ganqvist Carvajal*
    Coutinho Bentacur Carrasco Isco* Quintero*
    Hazard Neymar Griezmann

Thinking of Carvajal Isco Quintero out for Modric Maguire Claesson

Or should I get rid of one of my forwards to get Kane ?

Please can someone help me? 12 behind leader in ML.
    Got this:
    Muslera (4)

    Granq Trippier Pavard (5.5,4.5)

    Claeson Lingard Coutinho Modric (8.5)

Griez Kane Hazard with 3 F/Ts, so got a team, so do I improve the 11 I have, or get 3 in as back up, so I have subs? If so, any ideas?

    Cheers!

Fair play. There are a lot of things that can happen before the game starts though. You don't know who will be fit or not after the WC etc.

Plus transfers are going to go apeshit when the WC finishes as players re-assess their careers and the transfer deadline is before the season starts this year - it's going to be nuts!
