Just eight matches remain of this year’s World Cup, the first of which gets underway at 3pm in Nizhny Novgorod as Uruguay take on France in the opening quarter-final.

Kylian Mbappe‘s (£9.0m) two-goal performance in Les Bleus’ 4-3 win over Argentina has attracted over 430,000 new Fantasy managers (the highest number of the round) and the 19-year-old forward is now the most-owned French asset, having been selected by 30.8% of those who are playing McDonald’s FIFA.

Antoine Griezmann (£10.0m) has yet to score from open play at this year’s tournament but simply being on spot-kick duties for his country in this World Cup of penalties means he warrants consideration. The Atletico Madrid forward, who has already scored twice from 12 yards, is owned by 17.4% of Fantasy managers.

The curious case of N’Golo Kante (£6.0m) drags on. While the Chelsea star admittedly remains the cheapest route into the French midfield, his lack of goal involvement (no goals, assists, shots or big chances created) has not deterred over a fifth of McDonald’s FIFA bosses from drafting the defensive midfielder into their squads.

Benjamin Pavard‘s (£4.5m) wonder strike in the win over Argentina, coupled with his budget price tag, has attracted the interest of over 150,000 new managers: the full-back now has a double-digit ownership, along with Raphael Varane (£6.0m) and Hugo Lloris (£6.0m).

Edinson Cavani (£9.5m) produced an excellent display in the 2-1 win over Portugal, scoring twice, but the Uruguayan striker misses out this afternoon with a calf injury.

Cavani’s strike partner Luis Suarez (£10.0m), who has two goals and an assist to his name at this summer’s World Cup, is owned by just 8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers. Suarez and Cavani have had more big chances than all of France’s squad combined this summer.

Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez and goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (all £5.7m) have been backed by 30.6%, 14.5% and 14.4% of McDonald’s FIFA managers respectively. Uruguay have yet to concede a goal from open play in 2018, with Pepe’s header from a corner-kick in the last-16 tie with Portugal the first goal Uruguay have conceded at this World Cup.

Uruguay XI (4-3-1-2): Muslera; Caceres, Gimenez, Godin, Laxalt; Nandez, Torreira, Vecino; Bentancur; Suarez, Stuani

France XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez; Pogba, Kante; Tolisso, Mbappe, Griezmann; Giroud

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

Price changes are in. They've lowered the values needed for a price rise by A LOT so many more players have gone up.

Thanks. I've had a look. Are you convinced there is no manual intervention on a case by case basis, and that it's simply raising an lowering a threshold?

Funny little game, this McFifa. Odd that they make price changes at the beginning of a round — by the time you make transfers the pricing will be one round obsolete.

Yeah, I like the focus on a full squad and the flexibility to switch mid gameweek, but it is odd that they can update so quickly at the end of each matchday while not being able to get their pricing as timely.

I feel like they need a coffee meeting to discuss price changes, even if it's just to discuss the thresholds for change. Pure speculation, of course 😀

Wasting 0.5 on Ruddy. He's Wolves back-up and you won't drop DDG, so get a 4m benchie.

Don't know Reid but you've got too many non-starters.

Back line mat miss too many games, as will Fernandinho. Might struggle to have 11 starters some weeks.

I am worried about Salah's fitness and he being so expensive kind of makes me wonder. If I downgrade him to Mane I could get 3.5 to invest elsewhere. That is a lot.

      1. Andy_Social
        • 13 Years
        8 years, 23 days ago

That would help a lot. I'd expect Salah to be fine for the start of the season though.

        • 17 Years

Salah is well priced. You can have him and two basement defenders versus Mane with two premiums. But the Mane version doesn’t really come with a captain option.

    3. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years
      8 years, 23 days ago

You want sure starters. Suttner, McTominay, Speroni, Kolasinac, Stones & TAA all have question marks over starts. Also can't see many points from Fernandinho and Gudmunssun.

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 14 Years

Actually Gudmunssun is fine. I shouldn't discourage picks different from template. Burnley have nice fixtures.

As I've said in my first post about this the values can change, and they did.
These are the new values for price changes:

Players with price lower than 6m in GK&DEF, 7m in MID and 8m in FWD:
+0.1m = 9 points or more in last 2 rounds
+0.2m = 13 points or more in last 2 rounds

    Players with price higher price:
+0.1m = 11 points or more in last two rounds

    All players:
-0.1m = 2 points or less in last two rounds and played in at least one game

It's a long season though, you can always catch up. There is the flip side to take into account, if Kane and Salah start slowly with high ownership and the money saved goes into players that start quickly you'll be ahead.
