In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

Looks in favour with Hughes but Southampton have quite a few centre backs and the defence hasn’t impressed overall in pre-season. Looks underpriced though so could be worth a punt.

RMT please - I feel I’ve found a good balance in the XI although bench is weak:

    De Gea
    Luiz - Mendy - Cedric
    Salah - Erikson - Richarlison - Neves
    Aguero - Firmino - King

    Speroni - Kabasele - Wan-Bissaka - Stephens

    Cheers

Maybe look to downgrade Eriksen as Spurs look shaky right now and beef up the bench esp. Kabasele.

Change Speroni to Hamer who looks the most likely to start at £4m and your bench is sound.

I’m just thinking out loud here writing out our differences.

      Tomkins Mane Mahrez Jota
      V
      PVA Sanchez Pedro Richarlison

Hmmm. I like your set up, although I think I’ll stick with mine. I want Sanchez to KDB soon. Having Mahrez would block that move.

      Good to go nonetheless.

I dont think PVA is worth the extra 1.0mil over tomkins. also prefer jota to richarlson but that hasnt been decided yet. i like the KDB plan though.

PVA will get you 5 goals a season. He ended last season strong and has been solid pre-season for what that is worth.

I would love Mané but want to diversify a little more. Ideally I would like to downgrade Salah to Mané and upgrade a forward to Kane at some stage.

(Of course the Salexit will need to be justified).

This is exactly my team at the moment, with the exception of Tosun instead of Arnie, and Aubameyang instead of Agüero (I just really want to start the season with him). Still switching between Zaha, Arnie and Tosun.

Thinking about if I want to downgrade Mendy to a 5.5, and switch King for Zaha/Arnie, and play with two 7.0 strikers.

Bilva seems to generally be a short term (but really useful) pick until the big guns are back and we don't yet know how Richarlison is going to fit if Bernardo comes in

Thanks for the input, I dont mean to sound ungrateful but both managers love those players. Have you seen what Pep says about Bilva?

I understand Bilva is a rotation risk after a bit but hardly punty imho. And Rich will have to play for that fee, where is I guess what you're saying....

    Thoughts here?

    Ederson (Foster)
Robertson / Shaw / Cedric (Wan Biss, Suttner)
Salah / Bilva / Richarlison / Jota (Stephens)
    Aguero / Aube / King

You will probably to me to save 0.5 on Foster, but I have done this because I am banking on MCI vs ARS being a scoring game, I want some opening day GK points, and Foster rotates quite well with Edersons tougher games up to December. I could drop Foster for a cheaper keeper any time. Wrong strat?

Salah, his ownership is too high not to right now. The odd ocassion if Pool are away to City while a big hitter is in insane form and playing Brighton, maybe.

        1. Captain Roberto
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 7 months ago

I looked to not have salah, but as you said I looked at his ownership and then designed it around him and Agruero as City are going to hand out some beatings early I think.

  9. Captain Roberto

    Pickford
    Kompany Lovren Shaw
    Mahrez Salah(C) Risharlison Mata
    Benteke Agueroooooo Firminho

    Steklenburg, Jorginho, Tomkins, Wan Bissaka

My thinking behind this iteration are a few fold:

Cheap defence until teams settle. Palace players to cover first wk1 if needed and cover Shaw if dropped when im not paying attention in a few weeks. I thought Ward would be Palace right back but reading internet threads from palace fans doing reviews seems the young lad might actually start. I have Tomkins and Jorginho as my cover so maybe the lad will be a bandwagon if he starts with a clean sheet.

I think Richarlison and Mata will be starters and offer Gw3 option to transfer to a bandwagon.

I think Benteke was all over the place with that nutter they sacked after 5 straight losses and with Roy he knows his role. He needs confidence as they all do up front and he is a cheap 3rd striker who I think is "nailed on".

    Any thoughts? 🙂

Also, Jorginho isn't going to get you much more than 2 points every week, not at all renowned for his shooting

        1. Captain Roberto
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 7 months ago

Yes, I know. he is better than the other options at 4.5/5 though as he will play every game, and I think with his vertical through balls he may get assists with Hazard running through. plus he will get 15 points from clean sheets that the mid table teams wont get.

      2. Captain Roberto
        • 8 Years
        7 years, 7 months ago

I really like VanArnholt. Had him in the earlier iterations. But went with a cheaper Tomkins to begin with. Once the top sides settle we will know more. May regret it if he grabs a goal first few games.

Lovren and Kompany risky GW1 picks. Jorginho and Mata not my cup of tea, but you've picked them for a reason.

Yes, I went through all the 6/6.5 midfield guys and he struck me as an obvious choice. Will start. Top 4 team. Scored a few pre-season.

The Fulham, Wolves guys look nice but im not keen to go with untested players I don't really know anything about.

Ive been trying to read up on Kompany. He is fit and Captain so surely Pep will play him? I had Mendy but wanted the 0.5 to spread about. I think Lovren will be Klopps centre back as Klopp thinks he's great and he is only 5m! I think its maybe he wont start but that's why I have Tomkins who will.

I am trying to protect myself from having to make two transfers just to change one player.

    McCarthy
Azpilicueta – van Dijk – Daniels
    Salah – Mkhi – B. Silva – Hudson-Odoi
    Agüero – Aubameyang – Rashford

    Fabianski – Neves – Wan-Bissaka – Peltier

Please rate this, even though I've changed it so often. It really comes down to whether I have Salah or not.

I choose van Dijk over Robertson, obviously. I think he'll score more 🙂 A bit concerned about starting Hudson-Odoi, but I have the chance to play Neves now and then. Wan-Bissaka will rotate with Daniels. Fabianski with McCarthy. I'm open for another pair in goal, though. Really wanted to have Sanchéz, but can't afford, so that's why I have Rashford. Also, I feel 2 players from Arsenal is more than enough.

Feel free to comment your own team and I'll give my point of view.

    RMT please peeps...

    Fabianski / Begovic
    Robertson / Shaw / Luiz (Wan-Bissaka / Bednarek)
    Salah / B.Silva / Jota / Richarlison (Kennedy)
    Arnautovic / Aguero / Lacazette

I have 0.5 ITB, not really intentionally, but I fancy Bednarek and Wan-Biss to start and if they don't, can use the 0.5 to shift to someone else early on if they don't start!. If they do start, will be a handy 0.5 ITB for Shaw > 5.5 in a few weeks or one of Jota/Rich > Miki if playing...

    Opinions are greatly appreciated.

Probably downgrade auba to Laca then... Mane King for cairney and firmino

So auba cairney bobby to King Mane Laca

      Makes sense?

        That’s how I feel it’s too unbalanced
I’m an arsenal fan, I want Auba
And I don’t think laca will start gw1
Atm I’ve changed mane & firmino round
So I have a midfield of
        Salah Mane Bilva Rich Cairney
        Auba Aguero

        Improvement?

Laca/Eriksen + King is much better than Auba + Cairney..

If Everton sign Marcus Rocho (spelling?) from Utd then their defence will be solid for a mid table side. Ive got Pickford as clean sheets and saves when the team crumbles should get a good return.

Looking for some advice / suggestions on the below:

    Ederson (Fabianski)
    Robertson, Mendy, Bailly (Wan-Bis, Peltier)
    Mane, Eriksen, Pedro, Cairney (Masuaku)
    Aguero, Auba, Arnie
    0.5 ITB

Have changed it several times tonight (have had Keita and Mkhi for Eriksen and Pedro most recently). Should I revert back to them?

Here's my team, iteration 317 - what do you guys think?

I had Eriksen, Daniels and another 4.5 defender but replaced with Sanchez, Hamer and Peltier... Whilst I know Hamer won't start the others will and I think Spurs will struggle for first few GWs... Thoughts?

    Foster // (Hamer)
    Lovren // Mendy // Jagielka (Peltier // Wan-Bissaka)
Mane // Mahrez // Sanchez // Richarlison (Cairney)
    Aubameyang // Firminio // Arnautovic

Also, keeping a keen eye on the transfers, but unlikely anyone signed over the next 2 days will start this GW anyway.

    TIA

    Ederson-Boruc

    Robertson-Davies-Wan Bissaka-Tomkins-Daniels-Bednarek

    Eriksen-Salah-Cairney-Jota-Milivojevic

    Aguero-Zaha-King

After first GW maybe Eriksen and King out for Lacazzete and a 6,5 mid, maybe Richarlison, depending on how Arsenal looks.

      Look at Aguero.
      Look at City fixtures.
Look at their goals for last season.
      Pick Aguero.
When he is fit he starts. Pep starts him. He will start. They can obliterate teams like Huddersfield.

So would you keep both aguero and auba, or look to downgrade auba to improve in midfield?

        1. Captain Roberto
          • 8 Years
          7 years, 7 months ago

I decided to get Firminho for 9.5m
          doubling up with Salah

There is a theory that you captain the 12/13m guy otherwise he cant get value. And i think this way. So i captain Salah and only have one other big guy. Then that gives more freedom to balance an early team to react to the form of early gameweeks.

I think when you look at the figures there are some big 200+ point midfielders for 9.5-10.5. Aguero is dropped price because he was injured for 10 games. When he is fit he scores. If he had played 38 games he would have scored more and been valued higher, so i think Aguero is under priced. Where as Arsenal are in transition.

Start with two and allow for flexible transfers across your team. 🙂

Thanks for the great answer! So if i understand you correctly you would keep Aguero, but downgrade Auba to Firmino? Then maybe look to improve mhki?

            1. Captain Roberto
              • 8 Years
              7 years, 7 months ago

I would keep Aguero, yes. But I don't have a crystal ball and nothing is certain, no matter what people say, so if you feel good with Auba then go with him. I was just going over a way to be more flexible and create better value per million. With three big 11m+ it ties up value. The more expensive a player the more they need to be the captain.

Only Young is a left back on that list.
Shaw has done well pre-season. If he does well Jose should give him the spot to lose. Young only came in because Jose lost it with Shaw but if he didn't think he could be his starter he would have sold him and wouldn't be looking to sell Rojo.

Looks great if Pedro starts instead of Willian. Shaw could be benched for Young in a couple of weeks, but that will give you time to see if TAA starts instead of Clyne.
