Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

I dont like Benteke and Austin really. Benteke could be a good punt but I cant see Austin working out well. You defence is a little too weak too - A product of the Sanchez pick I think.

I'm not sure you'll get VFM from Coleman. New manager much more attacking so likely to leak goals, although this might be offset with more assists. Who knows.....
Benteke is also a risk, done nothing spectacularly for quite some time now. Would take King anytime, especially with Bournemouths open 9 GW's

Bench weak af, (taking a real risk with 2 x 4.0 defenders), and I'll need to dump Bilva after the first few weeks (prob for an Arsenal mid) but still:

    Patricio
    VVD Lowson Tomkins
    Salah Eriksen Bilva Jota
    Kun Firmino King

    Bench: Hamer AWB Peltier Stephens

FWIW, least convinced by my selections of Lowson (over other Burnely DEF or...?) and Jota (over Richarlison or...?).

Also, vacillating between Eriksen / Firmino and Mane / Lacazette.

Crap. I guess that means when you factor in the weak bench and Bilva rotation concerns, I'm not 100% convinced by like half my team.

Suppose that explains why I'm on draft #973 at this point.

Strong front line, think the defence is a bit light though. Im also toying between Jota and Richarlison. Think Jota could do very well and I like the Talisman pick, but Evertons opening fixtures look decent...

    RMT:

    Ederson
    Robertson, Coleman, Daniels, Shaw
    Salah, Neves, Richarlison, Mahrez
    Firmino, Aguero

    Stekelenburg, Arnautovic, Hudson-Odoi, Wan-Bissaka

I'm considering Mane and Kamara instead of Firm and Odoi. And Shaw will become a 4.0 and Mahrez upgraded once players return.

    Patricio (Hamer)
    Mendy Robertson D.Luiz (Wan-Bissaka, Cedric)
Salah B. Silva Mahrez Richarlison (Cairney)
    Auba Arnie King

The team above gives me a 343 with king or a 352 or Cairney.
Not entirely sure about D.Luiz, chelsea didnt look great but was against Man City - would prefer a Utd defender but not sure who's nailed and not injury prone.

I could also swap Cairney and King to Jota and a striker 5m or below and I'd then play 352.

    Thoughts?

Looks quite strong, not sure I'd bench Arnie even if playing Liverpool. Only concern could be what happens if Bednerak and WB don't end up as starters then you'd have two non playing bench players.

Pretty Happy, obviously Vestergaard a gamble but Soton have a couple of low goal scoring matches and hoping his 6'6 frame helpswith a couple of Set Piece goals.

i'm not sure about having both Vestergaard and PVA because they probably won't keep too many clean sheets which is the main thing you want from defenders although PVA can make up for that with attacking returns

I am thinking mostly whether to go for PVA (5.5) & Kabasele (4.5) or rather cover myself on Palace with Tomkins (4.5) paired with 5.5 of more premium team (D.Luiz? Bailly? Coleman? Sb else?).

    What would you do here?

    Patricio - Stekelenburd
    Robertson - Mendy - PVA - Kabasele - Wan-Bissaka

Here's another version, although I think I'm really close to being happy..until you all poo-poo it obviously.

    Begovic / Hamer
    Mendy / Robertson / Holebas / Peltier / Wan-Bassika
    Salah / Mane / Jahanbakhsh / Richarlison / Fraser
    King / Aguero / Arrnautovic

Leaves me with 1.0 ITB allowing for a Mane to KDB upgrade and also potentially a Jahanbakhsh to Keita upgrade depending on how the Iranian starts.

Thoughts greatly appreciated, as I'm genuinely beginning to lose it....
