Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

In our fourth article of the series, Niemi has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team; please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Niemi’s RMT

Patricio – Hamer
Mendy – Robertson – Shaw – Wan-Bissaka – Bednarek
Salah – Mane – Mahrez – Richarlison – Jota
Aguero – Mitrovic – Kamara

Goalkeepers

Patricio – 4.5 – I really like Patricio as a GK, I think he’s genuine quality. At 4.5 in a team that have strengthened a lot during the summer I think he could be one of the great bargains this season. It’s a slight risk going with a GK who’s new to the league in a promoted team, but it’s a risk that could easily pay off. I’m going to play him every week.

Hamer – 4.0 – It seems like Hamer have a shot of starting some games for Huddersfield, so he’s my pick of the 4.0s

Defenders

Robertson – 6.0 – Impressive end to last season, very attacking, decent opening fixtures and no World Cup. An easy and sensible pick in my eyes.

Mendy – 6.0 – I was initially lukewarm to Mendy as a pick, but he looks likely to start the first few games and Pep seems confident he’ll become a key player in the Manchester City side this season. With the amazing run of fixtures between gameweek 2 and 7 I’m taking the risk.

Shaw – 5.0 – Another defender I wasn’t convinced about earlier in the preseason. Although he’s now found his way into my team, I’m not totally convinced on how long he’ll remind a starter. Probably the player in my team I’m least convinced about.

Wan-Bissaka – 4.0 – Has made the right back spot his own during preseason, and is an obvious pick with Palace’s nice opening fixtures. I’ve seen Crystal Palace linked to a few right backs though, so I’m monitoring their movements on the transfer market the final days.

Bednarek – 4.0 – Emerged late last season as a budget defender and kept his price for this season. Seems to be prefered alongside Vestergaard and de Hoedt in the back three, but is facing competition from Stephens. A more nailed option is Peltier from Cardiff, but I feel Bednarek has a higher ceiling hence why I’m going with him currently. Swapping Shaw and Bednarek with 2×4.5 is something I’m weighting up.

Midfielders

Salah – 13.0 – Doesn’t really need an explanation. Been in my team since the game opened, and not going anywhere. Captaincy option every week.

Mane – 9.5 – I’ve had Eriksen in this spot for most parts of the pre-season, but Tottenham is a big worry at the moment with many players yet to return from the WC break, squad players injured, and transfer business yet to happen. Mane is for me the obvious replacement showing decent form in pre-season, as well as kind fixtures at the start and potentially penalties.

Mahrez – 9.0 – Been in and out of my team, but after the game against Chelsea I feel fairly settled with him. Looked dangerous and could easily had returns on another day. Bernardo Silva has crossed my mind, but despite Pep’s quotes I’m not convinced he’s a better pick for the start of the season.

Richarlison – 6.5 – An amazing pick at the start of last season, before totally disappearing. Had great underlying stats, and he’s a player I personally like. Everton’s pre-season form is a worry, but the potential is definitely there at 6.5.

Jota – 6.5 – Been in my team for most of the season. A key attacking player in an interesting Wolves side, and could even be used up front in some games. I’m well aware there’s a good bunch of players that do well in Championship but can’t reproduce those performances in the Premier League, but I have a feeling Jota won’t be one of them. Maddison at Leicester is also a player I’m closely monitoring and I can’t rule out him finding his way into my team at the expense of Jota or Richarlison.

Forwards

Aguero – 11.0 – A player that always finds his way into my team, who I love captaining. This season is no different; he’s been in my team the whole time and the game against Chelsea just made me more confident.

Mitrovic – 6.5 – A player that I like a lot personally. I hoped he would come in at 6.0, but I still think he could be decent value at 6.5. I fully expect him to be Fulham’s penalty taker this season, which is a big advantage.

Kamara – 4.5 – Decided early I wanted to go with a third forward at 4.5, and Kamara seems to be the pick of the bunch. I don’t expect him to be a regular starter, but he’ll probably get some minutes here and there.

Conclusion

I feel fairly confident in my team right now, but a few minor changes are possible. The defence is slightly risky but otherwise I feel my team is pretty safe with decent alternatives to my midfielders and forwards available at the same price point.

What are your thoughts on my team? Have I missed out on any obvious picks, or gone with players that I shouldn’t?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

    Thoughts?

    Pickford
    Mendy Cedric Robertson
    Mkhitaryan Schurrle Salah Son Mane
    Aguero Arnautovic

    Fabianski Kamara Kelly Malone

Cedric may not play, so monitor. Son will only play the first game before going to Asia, so needs replacing unless wildcarding after 1 week. Like the Schurrle pick. AWB instead of Malone.

      too many risks

Mendy, Bed, AWB, Bernardo, Walcott, Austin, Morata

all have uncertainties over them one way or another. IMO now is the time to cover your bases, Make sure you don't get stung by any big players going mad. You're unlikely to get stung by any differentials or mid value players because of relatively lower ownership. Eradicate some uncertainty and get Auber and or Firmino

I don't think he'll hit the numbers of last year personally, and I like to celebrate my players scoring, if I had Salah then I wouldn't celebrate as I wouldn't be gaining ground on anyone

There's no evidence pointing towards Salah not sustaining his form. That is a hunch that I absolutely wouldn't go with. Based on that I absolutely would not enter the season without him. It will just get harder week on week as you struggle with admitting you made an error and scramble to fit him in at a half million more :0

if you're basing that on last season, across the course of a season, you will be about 100 points down if you invest in Aguero/Mane instead of Salah/MidPrice striker

    Alisson / Hamer
    Mendy / Robertson / PVA / AWB / Bednarek
    Salah / B.Silva / Jota / Richarlison / J.Murphy

I think your team is riddled with gambles. If that is your intention then good luck to you, I hope they pay off. But Mendy, PVA, AWB, Silva, Richarlison, King, Jota and Zaha all have doubts one way another (position, form, rotation, stepping up a league, new team etc). I think you should invest the money in getting shot of couple of those for players who don't have any question marks and could sting you badly e.g. Firmino, Auber, Eriksen, Walker etc

    OK first RMT,

    Fab, Foster
    Mendy, TAA, Daniels, Tomkins, Malone
    Salah, Erikson, MK, Keita, Neves
    Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

Unsure about Keita (Richarlson or Sessegnon could fit here) but as a LFC Fan I'm expecting good things.
TAA over Robbo for the extra £1M.
Mendy and Salah are the luxury items (the latter being essential only due to ownership).
Aguero could turn into Jesus or Lacazette/Aubemeyang
    The 2 x 4.5 GKs and 2 x 4.5 Defs will be rotated depending on fixture/form.
    Neves is acceptable bench cover
    Malone is bench Fodder.

    Wheres left to explore?

Been an awful lot of tinkering so far this year, and still not totally happy with it. Anyone want to cast a critical eye over:

    Patricio, Stekelenburg
    Robertson, Mendy, Shaw, Bednarek, Wan-Bissaka
    Salah, Sanchez, Richarlison, Jota, Cairney
    Aguero, Lacazette, Kamara

Concerned I'll be playing one of Cairney/Kamara every week, but don't really want to ditch Sanchez as I've got a hunch he may explode. Other option would be to downgrade Lacazette, but again, I'll want some attacking coverage from them from week 2 onwards.

    Any suggestions?

Looked at that, but £1m to upgrade Cairney/Kamara doesn't really give much of a difference - no great £6.0m midfielders of £5.5m forwards.

repost as no comments a few pages back

    McCarthy (BUR),
    (Hennesey)

Robertson (WHU), TAA (WHU), Cedric (BUR)
    (Tomkins), (Schlupp)

Salah (WHU), Silva, B (ars), Siggy (wlv),Fraser (CDF)
    (Neves)

Aubamayeng (MCI), Aguero (ars), Austin (BUR)

Current plan is to starts with Bilva with a view to downgrade once i've seen Richarlison, Jota etc, and to monitor Mendy and other full back options with a view to upgrade defence by 1 or 2 players in week 3-5 when I know more.

I don't agree that Fraser, Cedric, TAA, McCarthy or Aguero are gambles. Schlupp and Austin are, Bilva is borderline. That's an acceptable number of gambles to me, especially with a bench of Neves (1), Tomkins (2), Schlupp (3). I can accommodate the risk of one player failing and one rotating.

      Schlupp may need further investigation

but you have several rotation risks in Mendy, Mane, Bilva, Aguero, King

I think you will change your tune the first time Aguero gets rotated and replaced by a 4.0. With that team you need one actual prospect on your bench

He was fit enough to play for France in the WC just lost his place, been training all summer with them, came back early to train with City, involved in the friendlies.

And its one game a week until the champions league, I don't think thats ragging players.

Bilva is obviously a rotation risk but not for the first 2-3 games I don't think, and if he plays how he played in Comm Shield, he will cement a place in the team

          • 11 Years

Non of them needs to be a big rotation risk. The risk comes from owning multiple players who are likely to play 30 ish games. That's one game missed every 4.75 games. If you want to be using your free transfer every week to cover injury/rotation then I think that owning those players and not having anything good on the bench is the right way to go about that

It's a good question, I never really think about going for 4 at the back. Quite possible a premium defender outscores him. Depends on if Richarlison has learned to stop missing sitters every game or not!

Really like it actually. We have a VERY similar team except Im going for Aubameyang over Aguero, Zaha instead of King, and went for a double 4.5 GKs which allows me to have one 4.5 def on the bench.

But I like the certainty of CS DDG brings of course. Slightly different team but I do like it, like your approach.

Been on 3-5-2 for the last 2-3 weeks, team has remained pretty unchanged but now getting itchy fingers on Arnie and potential at 3-4-3. Current team:

    Patricio
    Mendy Robertson PVA
    Salah Mane B.Silva Richarlison Pedro
    Aguero Arnie

Stek Wan-Biss Kamara £4.5m def (undecided)

Pedro could be any £6.5m mid - Jota perhaps, but what about swapping him to a £4.5m mid and upgrading Kamara to King?

Or getting two £4m defs (with Wan) and having Zaha AND Arnie alongside Aguero?

I like it. A good mix of big hitters with some nice punts in there as well. Pogba could go either way and KDB could be a season keeper.
