Buoyed by some impressive scores from the opening day, the Scoutcast crew are in optimistic mood as they tackle the key issues facing Fantasy managers ahead of Gameweek 2.

I’m joined by Andy, Az and new Scoutcast face Neale (aka Skonto Rigga) to separate the wheat from the chaff in the Fantasy Premier League’s transfer market.

We ponder whether reports of the demise of forwards have been greatly exaggerated and list the under-performing players from Gameweek 1 who may well punish their sellers.

Our rough with the smooth round-up features a tale of two benches.

While later in the show I come under attack from my colleagues, and even a moth, as we search for this season’s budget midfield gem.

We end by revealing our Captain choices when Neale unleashes one of the most surprising armband selections the Scoutcast has ever seen. It caps an impressive debut to remember for both him and the moth.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

If you've spent 5.5 on PVA, it's probably for his goal/assist threat, and he can definitely deliver at home to Pool.

Jay egersdorff mentioned Cardiff could get a win. For me, its between Peltier and Fraser. Atleast i will have a ok bench player.

Was poor dirst game and according to Cardiff fans Warnock could decide to start Richards instead

Not sure if you’re serious or not?

Basically neither have any goal threat so it comes down to who I think is more likely to keep a CS. Chelsea in a derby or an albeit limited Cardiff under a defensive coach vs a meh Newcastle

          Cheers.

If Peltier does not start, he'll probably stay at the bench the whole game, no? So I could start with Peltier and if he is benched then Tomkins automatically comes in.

But I am struggling to make a decision on this one...

Joe Hart could offer great value behind that Burnley defence with those fixtures. Back to back starts for him now, played well in both games and we know Dyche has a 'play well keep the shirt policy'.

Very tempting to do Fab to hart. Appreciate they were playing Liverpool but hammers looked so naive in defence as usual

        1. We Will Klopp you
          • 9 Years
          8 years, 22 days ago

Similar situation for me, I have Patricio and wolves looked very open last match, not expecting a clean sheet in any of their next 3 games, so Hart looks very tempting.

            Wolves looked very weak defensively

              • 9 Years
              8 years, 22 days ago

Yep but I bought him for the save points, Hart offers both save points and a good number of clean sheets if he continues starting, so it's very tempting to make the switch.

Surprised Burnley are employing three keepers like that. Surely wages on Heaton and hart are 50k a week min. And pope can command that elsewhere so will soon be looking for a rise

Just wanted to say that the level of information, effort and thought that has gone into the site so far this season has reached epic proportions! There seems to be a video/audio/article/table/hot topic for every possible aspect of the game and it's clear to see all of yer energy and enthusiasm coming through in all that ye do. Well done to all involved in the site, it's developed into an absolute beast and, weekly points totals aside, can simply be an enjoyable engagement all round - thanks.

Start King vs whu over Mitrovic vs tot given the fixture? (Despite Mitrovic being much more threatening in GW 1)

      1. Davido989
        • 16 Years

I would start King for the following reasons:

        - Fixture
        - Ownership in ML
        - I would be more annoyed with King points on the bench vs WHU as opposed to Mitrovic points vs TOT

      De Gea
      Coleman Cook VVD Peltier
      Richarlison Salah Sanchez Mane
      Aguero King

      To this....

    Some thoughts on the Scoutcast

All the backward looking stuff is a bit deadweight. Like when you watch the weather forecast and miss the important stuff because you switch of when they insist on starting with some irrelevant story about how windy it was on some deserted Scottish island only to find their on tomorrow's weather. Everyone listening to the Scoutcast knows what happened last week. It could lose 5 minutes just dropping the personal stories that belong in a pub. This week was an example where the recap could have been quickly summarised into "Didn't we all do well. But why are some of us unhappy...".

People like the insights of what to do next so the interesting stuff is all in the views of transfers, key options/captains. Particularly at this point in the season when we're still playing a bit of a guessing game, talk should be of which players deserve attention (buying) or which deserve patience (holding).

It doesn't need to be scripted. Just more cleanly moderated/directed to screen out uninteresting stuff.

Could always be a separate "How the week went" Scoutcast if people prefer that sort of thing.

I'm making some suggestions for ways to manage the discussion into areas of interest. I'm sure many people like to listen to 20 minutes of recapping the week but I haven't seen that from comments.

As I said, suggestions and advice from me. I won't take it personally if the advice is ignored or disregarded.

More variety in opinions is key. It wasn’t until Jay appeared on the show that I realised how similar everyone on the Scoutcast played FPL. Jay brought a whole new angle to the game making the show much more interesting to watch. I have a lot of respect for Az, Andy and crew, however they have very similar approaches to team selection and strategy. It doesn’t make for entertaining viewing.

To Scoutcast; In response to Kante and the points brought up of:
    1. It has only been one week in his 'new position': During Chelseas last preseason game against Lyon, Kante made this seasons debut off the bench in the second half and was immediately making forward runs in the box (I also thought I was seeing things at the time).
    2. To Chelsea's midfield being unresolved and when Kovacic starts playing: As Kovacic would more than reasonably take over the third - Barkley's midfield spot, we can comparatively look at this and see that both (Barkley and Kante) are getting into forward position, as would Kovacic and Kante.
After seeing Kante's entrance into the last preseason game, I wanted to bring him in from the start, and decided to wait for transfers out from the casuals from his high ownership and price drop; as I was not expecting such immediate returns. At any rate, agreed as one to watch.

Why is Peltier being built up so much this week?

To quote his wiki page ' He does not move up the flanks and shoot crosses; instead he only plays as a defender. Wales Online wrote that he "does not fit the modern stereotype of what we now expect from a full-back, as he is not particularly swashbuckling or flashy"

NEW instead of LIV for a defender on pitch for many.

If he gets a cleanie and bonus points, then we would forgive him for being an old school defender/full back. He does know how to tackle though which translates to bps.

They’ve got to give Puel a chance to get some team chemistry going between Vardy and Maddison at least.

That seems like it is going to be the key to me.

3 of the next 4 are at home and are nice fixtures. Think he's the best of the 5.0 choices and the only 4.5 I'd like is Fabianski but horrible fixtures.

I can't see how this is worth a hit.
      Overall possibly slight improvement but:

DDG more chance of getting a clean sheet than Pickford.

Jota deserves another game to prove his worth. Bilva is hardly expected to make up for the difference + 4 points.

If Bilva does well and Jota doesn't you can do it for free next week

    Salah and rotation.

I can see GW5 to 8 is a bit tricky and Lpool will have CL ties in that period too.

With Shaqiri and others in the squad, is there an argument that there's a greater risk of rotation or reduced minutes for Salah or Mane over that period and if so how do you make that work in your favour?

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 22 days ago

yes, there will be rotation, Klopp confirmed it recently.

How do your make that work in your favour? Either take them out for 100% nailed starters or risk it. We don't have Anfield Express anymore 🙁

Im considering selling Salah for Hazard over that period.

Or perhaps some Arsenal if theres a form player emerging.

Just an abstract thought at the mo.

Have a strong bench, and if you're choosing to captain Salah put thought into your VC.
