Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

CP has 36% of CS vs like 10 for Watford.
An assist may be there for holebas but probably not at that %

      Maddinson is unproven stats wise

Moura is rotation risk, but Son may need rest

Maddison has come out on top, in 5 rounds of the comparison tool today. Over all stats summar.
Pereyra, Lingard,Richarlison, Gray. Closer with Moura, But still better. In the end i guess its the output that counts. And i dont have Maddison my self. Any tf i do now is -4.

On WC, taking a punt on hazard with moura and Maddinson. Which means I'm reserving 3 transfers to get Richarlison and Salah back

Dumb idea and get Richarlison already instead? (Can bench instead of holebas)

Keen to hear opinions on Chilwell vs Pereira?

Doesn't seem to be much between them. Chilwell heat map looks a little more promising, also taking the odd corner here and there

Giving serious thought to a leic def as my 3rd also and have considered this.

Like the look of both full backs to be fair.

Almost flip a coin between them, and with £0.1m I would just go with Chilwell.

Am also seriously considering Maguire for set piece threat though at 5.5

Having one of the two with Alonso and Wendy seems ideal to me. I'm also on Chilwell for the same reason, was just seeing if anyone had strong opinions on one over the other.

Maguire does seem better but I can't afford.

      Both decent options.

Also consider Cairney at 4.9 but await team news with current flag.

W Hughes also plays quite high up pitch for 5m

Presumably you can’t stretch to 5.6 for Fraser, or you already have him (again press conference update pending)

Not sure on Ghezall at all.

Perhaps switch him to a 5m (w Hughes?) and look to upgrade Joselu. See if you can stretch to Ings.

There's plenty of time for me to be right on Rich. Ryan is not as good as those on many metrics. Patricio has one of best next 6 fixture sets and you telling OP to get Ryan

I just don't think you understand the game well enough. Who cares about 6 fixtures for keepers. You plan to change your keepers in 6 weeks? He has no backup keeper in case Patricio gets injured and Hamer doesn't look first choice and this is his wildcard. You are dismissing 146 points and 10 clean sheets last season based on 4 games? Just stop running your mouth off every chance you get.

So much this. The fixtures from GW8 through GW16 alone are enough not to be dismissive of Ryan as a solid choice. Being so categorically dismissive about some players (e.g., Richarlison) and glowing about others (e.g., Jota) just makes no sense.

He's a quality keeper (I'd be in a decent position to judge, he's the Aussie starting keeper so I've seen a lot of him), Brighton are a decent defensive side.

Each to their own, I suppose. Look at it this way, if they stay up (as most predict they will), it will most likely be on the back of a typically solid Hughton defence, as evidenced by a number of years of data (both in the Championship, and last year in the Prem, where they managed double-digit clean sheets).

I agree with this tbh. Strongly considering Ryan/Button on wildcard. You've got a guaranteed keeper, and the fixtures from 8 to 16 are miles better than any of the alternatives.

As a Newcastle fan, can say I'd be going nowhere near Joselu. Obviously price is the key factor, but I'd be looking to find the extra 0.5 or so to afford a sure starter. To be fair, Joselu has actually started this season surprisingly well, but he's fundamentally not a great striker and I would anticipate that Rondon will start most games this season.

Please help decide 11 and sub order,
    0 FT 0.4m

    De Gea
    Mendy / Alonso / R. Bennett / Robertson
    Walcott / Salah / Mane / B Silva
    Wilson / Aguero

Stephens stubbornly refusing to drop for 2 weeks now. Could really do with it happening, as may need the extra 0.1 to afford an ideal WC team. He's not an attractive option but he's a guaranteed 2 points every week.

In case Stephens avoids the drop, any Southampton fans (or otherwise) around that could give me some info about Hoijberg as an alternative? How likely is he to see rotation or get dropped?

Check Saints forums, media comments by Hughes. Check why he got sent-off v lei(why was he even in the box?), then the minutes Romeu played in the cup. Then MOTM on forums @cpl. Watch goal @cpl, see how they were defending when Targett got the ball and why was he so far up?
You need to know these things, luckily you asked the right person.

Similar frustrations mate. Sold Stephens at start of GW on WC with possibility of signing him back for £0.1 cheaper to have ideal squad.

Can’t say I’m too sure on Soton though am afraid. I’ll defer to the opinion above

For me he was just such an uninspiring choice.

On WC made changes and was able to go up to W Hughes, but making a few more tweaks and may yet go back to him for his customary 2 points and occasional 3.

Also on fpl stats he looked set to drop 1 week ago and he is still in the -99s!

I'm kind of in the same boat with Walcott and Mkhitaryan. Walcott may drop tomorrow so might be worth trading out this week. Maybe Schurrle for some Fulham cover. Anything ITB?

      1. hawkeyes
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 7 months ago

        0.2 ITB

        Schurrle is tempting.

I'm also thinking of taking a wild punt on Lingard. Just have a gut feeling he will start scoring in the next few weeks.

Disgruntled Walcott, Mkhitaryan and Bernardo Silva owner.
Looks like Walcott will drop tomorrow losing me 0.1 in transfer value. Have 1 FT and 0.0 ITB.

    Pedro out of reach.
    Already own Maddison.
Schurrle showing good form, one bad fixture then a decent run. Good value.
Richarlison only one week away and as close to a must as you can get at that price range?

Thinking Walcott to Schurrle this week (would like the cover in case Mkhitaryan and/or Silva dont play)
Mkhitaryan to Richarlison and Silva to Silva (for -4) next week.

Depends on if the 0.1 is crucial to your future plans. Play the fixtures, look outward now and see if you're happy with that switch for the next 4 GWs. Price rises and falls will level out over the next few weeks

Like the idea of Tripp but can’t face the idea of having a £6m def and worrying every deadline whether this is the week he is rotated with Aurier.

Trippier is first choice so I doubt the rotation is this week against Liverpool. The worry is usually the easier games where Poch brings them on for 1 pointers. Davies has been a wreck for me this season, so don't mind waiting and seeing on Trippier.

Thoughts on my wc with 0.1 bank:

    Patricio (Boruc)
    Alonso, Medy, Robertson (Bennett, WB)
    Salah, Hazard, Pedro, Maddison (Billing)
    Aguero (c), Mitrovic, Wilson

My issues are my 2nd non playing gk & not sure Bennett is a good 4th defender as he may not be 100% nailed.
My question = should I downgrade Maddison to upgrade Boruc & Bennett.

Downgrading Maddison isn't a huge risk I don't think. Suppose it would depend on whom you shift to. Probably better to have two playing keepers if one of them's Patricio (whom I also have)
