Do we make our own luck? Or are there unforeseen events that can conspire to ruin even the best Fantasy managers’ seasons?

In this week’s Scoutcast, David, Andy and Az join me to discuss the role of fortune in Fantasy football as we look to introduce a ‘luck league’.

This is one of a number of new and revamped features we trialled following the international break.

This saw the return of old favourites, including Rough with the Smooth and clean sheet predictions, as well as a new version of Fantasy Island Risks that focuses purely on low-owned gems.

Our Community section has undergone a late spring clean too, focusing on the week’s key teams, players and talking point to allow us to have more in-depth discussions.

But as with all trials, some things don’t quite go as planned.

The introduction of forfeits for the Scoutcaster with the lowest monthly score and an unexpectedly controversial quiz proved to be more works in progress, which will be put back on the shelf for the time being.

Among all the upheaval we also find time to ponder going without Liverpool’s pricey talisman Mohamed Salah and frisk the fixtures to analyse the teams with the best upcoming run of games.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

On a WC would you get Laca or Kaku?

Kaku at 7% ownership could be wildly interesting, personally I want more Lacadata in terms of starts and how he's going to play with Auba (or not). Whom else do you have up front?

      1. Murder On Zidanesfloor

I have Aguero and Mitro, my team is Salah less so I can fit either of them In, really want an arsenal player to stay ahead of the curve but concerned about lacas gametime

I dont get why people berate No Salah teams. Sure, if you look at only in the midfield position, he's the one to get and could haul every week. But if you factor in the fact that 3 million could upgrade at least 2 of your defenders (say who gets 7+7 points for clean sheets), even if Salah hauls a 15 pointer surely the points you get from the upgraded defenders can balance the points out?

    1. TOLV TUMS

Makes a lot of sense and has been floated on here more than once (I've gone the same route, dropping for Mane for cover). If anyone knew where he was this time last year in terms of point production v. this year, it would be interesting since his starting value in the game is predicated on repeating his performance of last year....

This is all a theoretical assumption. His consistency is what may hurt managers in the long term. Salah has started off this season the same way he did last season. He played as sub for some games in between last season as well, to accommodate the packed fixtures. We all know what happened there

Fair point, but don't forget that you won't be captaining those defenders. A 15 point haul turns into a 30 point haul

WC Team draft, 2.3 in the bank to play with over the next 2 months

    Patricio
    Mendy Alonso Trippier Holebas
    Hazard Erikson Dilva Maddison
    Aguero Mitro

    Boruc AWB Billing Quaner

Basically going all in on Tottenham next 6ish weeks, no Liverpool, stuck with 2 forwards (Quaner 4.4 to free up funds), can switch Maddison to Richarlson in 1-2 of weeks, can switch Aguero to Kane/Lukaku/Jesus or Hazard to another premium mid (pending the inevitable injury to Aguero or Hazard over next 2 months).

Opinions? Not saying I'll do it, just ended up on this in a random WC picking/rearranging players and kind of like it, especially the 2.3 in the bank to play with for the coming weeks...

I mean, sure I don't "need" 2+ free in the bank but if wildcarding this early I liked the flexibility going forward and think that starting 11 is pretty solid... I could do Quaner to Ings or Holebas to Maguire. Just don't see the point when I'm doing 4-4-2 anyways and wouldn't play Ings anyways/not sure Maguire outscores Holebas by that much really. Would rather extra funds to upgrade in a couple of spots a few weeks down the road

    Thoughts on sub 5.6 MFs?
Fraser is/was a main target but is out injured. Might lose out on set pieces.
Gray is an interesting option but his numbers might be skewed by the fact that Vardy is out. He will likely to shifted to the wings and might limit his touches in the box and shots.
Any thoughts on Hughes and H.Costa? Not convinced by Neves and Kante at all.

Yeah if Fraser is out it’ll be a big blow, he’s far and away the best option in that price range. I guess I’d tentatively go for Gray of those options listed but I agree with your reasoning and am hardly convinced. Schurrle for a 0.3 upgrade also possible - decent stats with lots of shots taken.

Fraser was my main target too. Now looking at Gray and Ghezzal... Ghezzal stats looks really good, but he played just 130 minutes. Or maybe punt on A.Traore, he looks lively, but don`t know if he will start...

Have to wait for update on Walcott and Zaha

Just Mkhi/Walcott to Pedro/Lingard can do the trick

Damn, that's tough. Maybe wait for pressers. Hopefully Wally and Zaha are green lights.

It's all about the pressers. If Walcott and Zaha look likely to be fit then you should be fine. Is Gunnerson back and playing yet?

The simple answer may be to trade Mikhi/Walcott. It really depends who you fancy over the next few games, if it is them then stay tight or switch Tomkins to Jonny (who is being overlooked) or Docherty or your 4.5m of choice to sure up the bench.

Wait until pressers obviously. If you’re not wanting to take a hit then moving Tomkins for a playing defender is the way to go. He can drop in for anyone not turning up even if it means you end up playing 5 defenders you have better chance of getting eleven out.

Well you are spending 4pts to have a competitive 11 with Wally and Zaha back soon.
You won't want Wally when Richa is back and Mkhi will always be a risk.
Sit behind the couch and roll or just do a straight Mkhi swap this week

if Roy finally realises that there is another option than Benteke in his side, then yeah, could be essential.

Van Dijk, Mkhitaryan and Milner to Boly/Doherty, Hazard and cheapo for -4pts is an option...

You don't need to wildcard for the likes of Ings and Mitrovic. I wouldn't take a hit for that move personally. But if Walcott is out and you really want Hazard then you could go for it.

    Hennesy/Hamer
    Robertson/mendy/bellerin/benett/tomkins(flagged)
    Salah/Mane/walcott(flagged)/mikhi/hogberj
    Aguero/zaha(flagged)/mitrovic

Currently have plans to do salah > hazard or walcott > moura

Similar dilemma to TM above with a few doubts this week.I think getting a nailed defender for Tomkins on your bench helps make sure you’re covered.

    How’s this looking on WC?

    Patricio
    Alonso Mendy Doherty
    Hazard Mane Pedro Moura
    Aguero (c) Ings Wilson
    Foster Maddison AWB Holebas

Thinking of doing Ings & Pedro to Mitro & Richarlison next week. Also going for squad depth to manage the congested schedule

    1. Demel
      • 14 Years

The team looks fine but don't plan on taking a hit next week. Just bring in Mitro and Rich this week and put them on the bench. I would play Mitro and Madison in that situation.

    Who would you play ?

    A) Boly (BUR)

    B) Robertson (tot)

Benched Boly for his goal against city and cs last gw. Dont want points benched again.
