All four of our Scoutcast crew are firing up their Free Hit chip ahead of the largest Double Gameweek of the season.

Among issues they discuss is the danger of being caught in a social media ‘bubble’, where Free Hitters are scrambling to find differentials away from a perceived template.

Latest figures from the Fantasy Premier League though knock this theory out of the water, with just 1.3% of managers actually triggering this chip ahead of Gameweek 32.

Even among Free Hitters the notion of a template appears to be a myth, with the Scoutcast crew of Joe, Luke, Az and Neale revealing their markedly different approaches.

In this episode, each contributor discusses in detail the different formations they favour and answer the community’s questions on the best defence, midfield and attacking assets to accumulate.

The Gameweek 32 captaincy debate is also looked at in detail, with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane all in the mix.

Those using their Wildcard or simply not using any chips this time around are not forgotten, with the crew keeping an eye on forthcoming fixtures with some key tips on players to bring in for the long-term.

Over more than 90 minutes of chat, the Scoutcasters also ensure there is time to quickly look back on their decidedly average Gameweek 31 and reveal their clean sheet and differential tips.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Bottomed, but I'm self-centred enough to want people to see this 😀

I've seen lots of arguments for David Silva over Ederson recently, and I think I'm yet to be convinced personally. The argument goes like "Ederson really has a ceiling of 6 points, so at most he'll get 12-13 points in the DGW if he's lucky enough to keep two clean sheets", whereas "City could score 5-6 goals a game and Silva is bound to be heavily involved." Something along those lines at least. But is he? Looking at the whole season, David Silva doesn't strike me as either particularly consistent, or particularly explosive. Lots of single-digit scores, even when he got attacking returns, and few bonus points.

I really don't see how he can realistically have a better upside or ceiling than Ederson. Can you change my mind?

(This isn't about my team btw, I haven't even made a draft yet and I don't whether I'll go with a City defender or attacker for that 3rd spot - just in general terms)

FPL is about taking chances and Dilva/Bilva have better odds of getting more than 12 points than Ederson.

Safe option is Ederson no doubt but the riskier option with more reward is Dilva/Bilva

      1. Pierce34

Does David Silva have better odds? Looking at his returns recently I doubt that.

Bernardo might be a different proposition if he plays in a front 3 though.

        1. Ghost Gooner

I prefer Bilva over Dilva myself. But I wouldn't write off Dilva (most rested mid) because of recent history only. If Fernandinho is healthy I'd go Dilva.

I guess it's mainly personal, no right or wrong. Just who do you have the most faith and trust in. I believe D.Silva will get a lot of minutes this GW, and get a goal and assist (just a feeling, not based on stats/history), that's why I picked him over City defender.
I also find it makes watching the City matches a lot more enjoyable 🙂

Could Sane not make a return, he's been great for Germany and not played a lot recently, whys pep dropped him?

      1. Pierce34
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 28 days ago

Yep, Sane is explosive and has by far the highest ceiling of anyone not named Aguero or Sterling. Of course, it all hinges on whether Pep wants to play him or not.

I expect Ederson to get 8 or 9 points and Dilva about 10.
Dilva's highest scores this season have been 11 and 10, giving a ceiling of 21.
      Ederson's have been 8 and 8, giving a ceiling of 16.
So advantage Dilva, if they both play 180 minutes.

Dilva is however 2.9m more expensive, so the question is whether that 2.9m difference could be spent more profitably elsewhere.

      1. Pierce34
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 28 days ago

But how likely is Ederson to get close to that maximum? Chances are close to 50%, judging by the fact that City have kept clean sheets in almost half the games they've played. Silva on the other hand doesn't strike me as very likely to get close to that ceiling, which isn't that much higher in the first place.

        1. RedLightning

If Ederson's chances of keeping a clean sheet in each match individually are both 50% then he has a 50% chance of keeping one clean sheet, 25% of no clean sheets and 25% of keeping two.
And his average score when he does keep a clean sheet is 6.5, with a ceiling of 8 points.
So he probably has a 50% chance of keeping one clean sheet and scoring 8 or 9 points (2 + 6 or 7),
a 25% chance of scoring 13, and an extremely small chance of getting more than 13.

In matches against teams outside the big six, Dilva has scored 9-1-2-11-3-9-7-9-1-3-1-10-3-1-5-6-3-7-6 (average 5.1).
His scores in two consecutive such matches have been 10-3-13-14-12-16-16-10-4-4-11-13-4-6-11-9-10-13.
This gives him a 50% chance of scoring 11 or more in two consecutive such matches, a 33% of 13 or more, and a 5% chance of 16.

Lukaku, Hig and Aguero worth a slightly cheaper defence of Watford, Wolves, Palace and Brighton?

Other most likely thing to do is downgrade Hig to Zaha, Bat or Deeney and upgrade defence?

With the rotation risk on aguero and sterling, anyone consider a differential and putting the armband on pogba?

    General consensus:

    a) Triple city attack
    b) Double city attack + def

      Asked a similar question above.

My gut is saying, Sterling and Aguero are worth the rotation risk, the others aren’t.

      So b with Ederson.

Has this Lukaku injury news changed much for people?

For me, I feel like it has unlocked many more helpful opportunities for my team.

    Even considering Martial!

Yep - it’s locked in Rashford in my team. 7m odd striker for a top 6 team is insane value.

      I’m going b.

No way Jiminez gets both with wolves’ biggest game for years a few days later.
