The Scoutcast is back with Joe, Az and Luke joined by original host Granville to mark a landmark moment in the show’s history.

At the 296 episode mark the Scoutcast has finally delivered more shows than long running British TV sitcom Last of the Summer Wine

This achievement had long been a goal of Granville and fellow original host and Fantasy Football Scout creator Mark Sutherns over the years.

Here Granville looks back at the show’s history, including its memorable early hat-tricks and features.

He also finds time to chat about the forthcoming campaign by revealing his ‘old school’ team. Meanwhile, Az is daring to be different once again with his ‘poetic’ ode to Sheffield United’s players. Luke is looking to be more ‘dullard’ this season by shackling his daredevil instincts. As for Joe, he thinks he’s created his usual boring and safe collection of players, only to be told by his co-hosts that he’s actually turned maverick.

Goalkeeper tactics also get an airing as does the huge array of potential mid priced stars in midfield and attack, who could be a gold mine of points this season. Well, in theory anyway.

Elsewhere, Luke looks at the best mid-term differential by joining Az in his love affair with promoted sides and Joe takes in the best teams in terms of clean sheets over August and early September.

Last of the Summer Wine has now been beaten but will our crew be dogged by some late summer whining at the end of Gameweek 1?

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

I've seen a few arguing that, if you don't pick Ryan, then Woodman is better 4m fodder than Button due to reduced likelihood of a price fall.

    I'm not convinced.
    Thoughts on this?

Button is the only 4m keeper who is second in line. Only one likely to get minutes. Makes no sense everyone isn’t picking him

Do 4 keepers drop often? People picking them knowing they won’t play surely, not sure why you would transfer out?

The price drop is irrelevant if you don't actually ever sell him, personally I know I 100% won't be rotating goalkeepers. I guess you could arguably earn 0.1M by getting him in later but would rely on you needing no other transfers.

      Ake, Arrons iffy choices

I don’t get buying fodder based on ownership.. a 0.1 drop still requires 10% transfers out for a price drop. If more units are invested in a highly owned player it stands to reason that more people need to sell for a price drop. What am I missing?

    1. _Make
      • 9 Years
      6 years, 11 months ago

It's nonsense. The player would have to underperform, then people will have to be tempted to transfer him out (which they won't because it would be a waste of a transfer) AND you have to decide that you will need the extra 0.1m elsewhere even if he does drop.

      It's FPL cult think.

Don't know really, but in my experience highly owned players drop much faster.

I remember the opposite (ie Salah immune to drops because of his ownership).. and low owned garbage players dropping like a stone (eg Tosun)

Strange, I've always had issues with high owned 4m players.

I had that issues too. It happened when there was another 4.0m players played more than 1 match or score a random goal. People rushed to get a new fodder and drove the price drop to popular fodder.

If you have more money of the bench you have less money to invest in your playing side. It's the risk vs reward of losing money on your fodder vs having a lesser starting team.

      1. IRBOX ⚽
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 11 months ago

That’s not my question. I’m staying why is there any merit in buying a 4.0 defender with 5% ownership in preference to one with 10% ownership. Both require the same % transfers out for a price drop..

It depends on the reason that they are highly owned.

For example CHO was highly owned at 4.5m last year as he got some pre-season minutes. He dropped to 4.3m pretty quickly when people realised that he wasn't getting much game time.

If dendoncker for example gets dropped from the team this year, I'd expect his price to fall quickly. I'm picking him because he is the best 4.5m mid but am aware that this could happen.

With Button, casuals will see that he was the only 4m keeper to get points last year and pick him thinking he could get minutes this season. When they realise he probably won't, they may transfer him out. If you go for Norris, who has a big red flag beside him, he will have low ownership and is likely to have been bought by people who are planning to just leave him on the bench and know this.

This is fine to start the season right (depending Joan much notably plays tonight)

    Ryan (Button)
    VVD, Robbo, TAA, X, X
    Salah, Sterling, KDB, Perez (Dendoncker)
    King, Jota (Greenwood)

    X’s are either:

Leaning towards option 3 at the moment. Risky going without any City def cover, but I guess it'll only take two transfers to get Laporte in when fit.

With the Montoya bandwagon starting to slow who are people now considering as the best 4.5 DF options? I'm thinking:

    Cathcart
    Mings
    C Taylor

I’m on Mings, Diop and Montoya, but will leave it late to decide.

If oconnell is declared fit I'm swapping mings and robinson for oconnell and mcginn

Hey folks. I have a three "either or" questions to finalize my team..

    Fraser or Moura
    Coleman or Robinson
    Best 4.5 defender?

    Medium-term. Thanks all!

Which one is better for the first few weeks? Also have Fraser, if that makes any difference:

    A. Zinchenko (playing 4-5-1, Wickham on bench)

    B. King (playing 3-5-2, Rico on bench)

I got A..i know its risky coz if my striker doesnt play i wont get any points..but going for it anyway to try get more points..then i can change later

    Ryan - Button

    Lundstram - Rico - VVD - Walker - Digne

    KDB - Perez - Salah - Barkley - Norwood

    Wilson - Jota - Kane
