FPL Question Time – Consult our panel ahead of Gameweek 5

The international break has given Fantasy Premier League managers plenty of time to stew over their squads.

As has become tradition, a fair number of FPL bosses will have deployed their first Wildcards over the last fortnight as they look to overhaul their failing teams or consolidate a good start.

For those of us with the prized chip still intact or who have already burned it, we still have a number of conundrums to solve ahead of some appealing fixtures in Gameweek 5 and beyond.

To help you with any dilemmas, we’ve put together another panel of Fantasy managers to answer your questions.

WHO’S ON THE PANEL THIS WEEK?

Tom Freeman / avfc82 – A long-term member of and frequent poster to the Fantasy Football Scout site. Tom has five top 1,000 finishes to his name in ten years of playing FPL.

Aleksander Våge Nilsen – Currently eighth in the Fantasy Football Scout Career Hall of Fame, having had three top 1k finishes in the last five seasons.

FPL Hints – One of the most-followed names in the FPL community, a seasoned veteran as well as a Scout writer and an Official FPL panellist. Finished 110th in the world in 2011/12.

Greyhead – The writer of, among other things, our weekly Great and the Good series. Greyhead finished 85th in the world in 2018/19.

Legomané – Fantasy Football Scout moderator and current leader of the Mods and Cons league. Legomané finished 1,006th in the world in his previous best season of 2016/17.

Would you propose any changes to this wildcard?

    Pope
    TAA Zinchenko Digne
    Salah KDB Mount Ceballos
    Aguero Haller Abraham

    Button Lundstram Cantwell Kelly

    Am slightly tempted by either
    - Aguero, Ceballos and Digne -> Barnes, Sterling and Pieters
    - Tammy -> Barnes

I’ll need to look at stats but I think Zinchenko is due some attacking returns. I have had Zinchenko from the start of the season so I would only make 0.1 if I took Otamendi.

You have enough on the bench to risk Zinchenko, if he gets benched a lot you can always trade him

      Looks pretty solid.
I prefer Sterling, so my WC team would have Sterling, Barnes instead of Aguero, Mount.

To afford that I’d need to drop someone else, like Digne to Pieters. Once you have to downgrade that third player not sure it’s worth it.

You could go 3-5-2 for Sterling but would mean a much weaker bench

I’ve toyed with it. However I think there’s more choice in the budget/mid price forwards (Barnes, Pukki, Tammy, Haller) than mids (Mount, Ceballos...).

Well you could do Aguero and Cantwell to Sterling and Greenwood for example..

It’s Aguero vs Sterling. Not much in it. I think I just prefer cheering Aguero on more. He seems like a more exciting captain pick.

Thanks so much mate how nice to see you again. I rated him as an option entirely just couldn’t find a rotation I liked alongside having 3 subs (for the city boys) but now I have it. No doubt he’s an unreal option especially from GW10

Decent. I haven't really thought too much about defender rotation, glad you said that.

I can't believe I'm gonna be excited to own Schar lol. His goalscoring stats are pretty ridiculous aren't they? I posted them the other day, I think it was 10 goals in 59 apps for club & country.

That is some praise thank you very much. KDB has won the battle. It came down to Pepe + Firmino + Sterling vs Auba + Dilva + Salah. Thought the former was going to be awkward going into this week with firmino and sterling playing at annoying times in international break. Auba just wins out as I want someone I know I can captain alongside salah. Cheers mate hope your WC is still going well

Salah to outscore Mane (Marginally IMO)
      KDB will outscore Mount
TAA higher potential points than VVD

Final few pieces of the WC - would you go A or B

    A Pope - 4.0 Fodder - Son - Guendouzi - 4.4 Fodder
    B Ederson - Pieters - Mount - Cantwell - Ayew

    Button ****

    VVD/Digne/Mings/Lund/****

    Salah/Sterling/KDB/****/****

    Abraham/Barnes/****

With A I get Son into the team and having a midfield of Salah-Sterling-KDB-Son looks amazing on paper
    B looks more balanced

Ya thats the other thing... will be looking at 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 most weeks.. So Ayew will be benched with his run of fixtures too...

Would you go A - Just hate the site of 2 fodders on the bench ha. But it takes away the headache.

      Haller:
      1. Team centred around creating chances for him... And he's selfish. Think Arnie under Pellegrini but actually fit most of the time
      2. More nailed
      3. No UCL distractions: fatigue + rotation
      4. Since you're on a WC... Mount has the shooting + set pieces + passing stats + relative nailedness to match/outscore Tammy (in FPL points, not goals) so you can go down that cheaper route, while Lanzini and the like just don't offer as much as Haller for FPL. So you can get Mount instead

I like Tammy though and he could end up in my team sometime from GW7, so I'm by no means calling him a bad option. Just the comparison

Now be nice! Think about it. Not so strange if your intention was only having 2 Pool players in your 11. As 1st sum he is a shoe in to deputize for Mane and Bobby who will get a rest sometime.

Hey he might do something with his sub time but fixtures aren't great and why risk it when you can get somebody who definitely will play at that price imo

5.5 on the cusp and I don't think anyone safe from rotation playing in Europe. I take your point though.

    What do we think folks.

Is getting KDB in worth it this week? Only root in is to loose Kane?

Kane and mount or KDB and Haller for the next block of fixtures?

    Current team:
    Pope
    TAA Zinc Digne AWB
    Salah Sterling Mount Cantwell
    Kane Pukki

    Button Lund Dendonker Greenwood

    It would mean a -4.

Hallers stats are killing kanes at the moment which i found quite surprising

Any advice would be very much appreciated

    Heaton
    TAA, Van Dijk, Zinchenko, Digne
    Salah, Sterling, McGinn, KDB

Lineup ok for this week? Anyone have any idea if Martial might be fit?

Have 1 FT, 0ITB but thinking of saving it to use 2FTs next week to get out Jota & AWB

      Pope
      VVD - Digne - Zinchenko - Lundstram
      Sterling (c) - KDB - Salah - Martial
      Jota - Pukki

      Bench: Button, AWB, Dendocker, Greenwood

Burnley treble up a good idea? Pope/Defender/Barnes?

        It's a great idea, imo

Double-ups can be bad in one GW (H2H) but win out over an extended period of time with form and fixtures (classic). The double-up on their defence feels different from having Barnes because he's quite simply a different animal in 2019. Also, if I'll have to get a player I feel will score fewer points just so I don't see "two/three players from X team" in my squad, I'll double/treble-up. It's different when I see other options that can match or outscore the double-up though, as that's when "hedging bets" becomes a thing

      Henderson 4.0
      TAA Robbo Digne Soy Montoya
      Salah Sterling Martial Ceballos Dendoncker
      Vardy Pukki Greenwood

Martial is my problem, with no KDB. 1ft, 0itb

      A) Hold
      B) Robbo and Martial -> Burnley defender and KDB (-4)
      C) Vardy and Martial -> Barnes and KDB (-4)
      D) Robbo, Martial and Ceballos -> Otamendi, Cantwell and KDB (-8)

Alternatively, I could play my wildcard...

Not worth a WC, IMO, and I'm not sure De Bruyne is worth a hit.

He's played a lot of international minutes, travels to Ukraine next week in the CL, and has scored 7 and 5 points in his two away matches this season.

I'd wait on Martial news, and if he's fit, save a transfer, then do Robertson, Martial > Burnley defender, De Bruyne for free.
