After around a decade of shows the Scoutcast has reached the momentous 300 episode mark.

From its origins, when Mark and Granville used to find time to podcast during their lunch break at work, to the live stream video version of today, the Scoutcast has long been a staple part of Fantasy manager’s lives.

But while the cast and technology has changed the issues remain the same.

One of these recurring themes has been the arguments that greet any cast member’s decision to Wildcard. This week’s show, ahead of Gameweek 5, is no different.

Knowing full well what may happen Joe tentatively presents his team overhaul to co-hosts Az and Neale. In Scoutcast tradition he then has defend his decisions, like one of the 300 Spartans who famously took on an army more than 2,000 years ago.

Elsewhere, the crew take a look back at some of the many mistakes and small successes of Gameweek 4 and how they plan to turn their fortunes around this coming weekend.

Kevin De Bruyne’s captaincy credentials, the best clean sheet prospects and Arsenal’s fixtures are among issues on the bill.

The crew also reveal what factors they use when making decisions, which covers everything from the growth of expected stats to the eye and even ‘ear test’.

Meanwhile, Neale’s differential shout for September and October ensures the arguments continue.

This episode wraps up with a tribute to an unlikely Scoutcast star over the years and details of how to help the charity that originally looked after him.

This Scoutcast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

Anything worth a hit here? King -> Pukki/Barnes/Tammy for free next week? (0.1 short of Haller)

    Pope
    Robbo - VVD - Digne - Zinchenko
    Salah - KDB - Mount - McGinn
    Aguero (c) - King
    -----
    Button - Lundstram - Dendonker - Greenwood

No hits. Pukki next week (price might even drop if he doesn't score a hattrick this week).

This is an awfully important post for my WC so please help me and forgive the repost. I guess context is important in a decision like this so please choose your preferred team thanks. I think I have enough captaincy options to justify No salah A

    A) No salah Digne:
    Pope Button
    TAA DIGNE Otamendi Söyüncü Lundstram
    MANE Kdb Dilva James Cantwell
    Auba Haller Pukki

    B) Salah no Digne but perfect defensive rotation:
    Pope Button
    TAA Otamendi Lundstram SCHÄR Söyüncü
    SALAH Kdb Dilva James Cantwell
    Auba Haller Pukki

I personally prefer B. I really like your attacking options. Defensively, I feel like you can make B work even without Digne. Once LEI start the good run of fixtures, you are likely to play TAA, Otamendi, and Soyuncu.

Yeah the rotation works really well but just worried about Digne hauls. I think Salah over Mane hauls are more likely though

He starts GW6 then fairly regularly from GW10 in the rotation. Digne has decent long term fixtures alternatively and Soy/lunny can fill in on the less favourable fixtures. Thanks for being so helpful in my WC dilemmas mate x

        1. MTPockets
          6 years, 10 months ago

The fixtures from 10 look ok in principle, but still a bunch of teams likely to score (except maybe villa) WOL, whu, BOU, avl, MCI. Don't think I'd spend 5m on a newcastle def in that situation, but may well be proven wrong.

Aye of course he’d rotate nicely with Söyüncü in that time frame so don’t worry too much. But yes I feel like he’ll get a fair few 2 pointers

I don’t buy too much into this, he’s deserved his assists and he is a very unique FPL defender with immense attacking threat because of his left foot. Everton’s defence is poo though I do agree and probably not worth spending 6.1m on.

Well I'm not a fan for my side, but if you are happy switching to Soyuncu in gw9ish (fixtures turn) it could be gold. Him and Boly are my favourite 5m or less players.

I would rather see Haller in there (possibly instead of Abraham). Also, I am personally not keen on Matip since I feel like Joe Gomez will start rotating with Matip soon (especially once the CL starts).

I would worry about Matip's nailed-ness with only Kelly (also not nailed) on your bench.

      Vardy, Matip -> Haller, TAA

    Hi All,

    Thoughts on my current wildcard;

    Ryan Button
    Digne Zinchenko Pieters Mings Lunstram
    Sterling Mane KDB Son Dendoncker
    Abraham Barnes Ayew

    Too much in midfield and too little up top? Would something like this be better;

    Ryan Button
5.5 mil Zinchenko Pieters Mings Lunstram
6 mil Sterling KDB Son Dendoncker
    Abraham Barnes Kane or Auba
    Any comments welcomed

United went 14 consecutive games without conceding a single goal. That defence of Van der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville/O'Shea/Rafael was just incredible, and won so much. I would go Ferdinand. They did have players like Carrick, Scholes, Hargreeves shielding, and forwards like Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov to give the opposition reason to hold back, but he was such a leader, a great passer, and a great defender. He had it all.

Kompany was amazing in his prime, but was too often injured.

      1. RichardNixon
        • 9 Years
        6 years, 10 months ago

Chelsea in Mourinho's first season conceded 15 goals in total!! (including 8 conceded in the first 27 games)! Can't see this record being broken.

Agree on Ferdinand though, and that Utd side in general. Vidic and Ferdinand was probably the best defensive partnership in the PL era

Just googled this. Cech kept 24 clean sheets for the season with Chelsea that year which is a record. The record for most consecutive clean sheets is Van de Sar with 14 as mentioned by Giggs Boson. Man Utd conceded 24 goals for the season in that year

All were, or are, great stoppers. Rio and Van Dijk, I would argue, could play a bit - i.e. run with the ball and beat a man. Adams was a superb captain. Terry was a great passer of the ball. Kompany could do a bit of everything. They all score(d) goals.
I've seen Moore play and I reckon Van Dijk could be as good, and he's deceptively quick. So it's VVD for me.

      I'd go John Terry.

A leader, and brilliant, aggressive centre-back who was also superb on the ball. Right foot, left foot, heading, blocking etc, he could do it all. Only thing he lacked was pace, but he very, very rarely got caught out.
