Watford 0-0 Bournemouth

Goals: None

Assists: None

Bonus Points: Ben Foster x3 (£4.8m), Nathan Aké x2 (£4.9m), Craig Cathcart x1 (£4.4m), Aaron Ramsdale x1 (£4.5m)

Watford and Bournemouth played out a lively 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road that saw the home side extend their winless run to ten games.

Fantasy Premier League managers may also be increasingly concerned about the Cherries’ recent goal drought.

However, there does appear to have been a significant improvement for both Watford and Bournemouth in defence, offering up some potentially viable budget options.

Wilson has now blanked in three consecutive matches

Eddie Howe’s side have now failed to score in three consecutive league games as the early-season form of Callum Wilson (£8.0m) continues to feel a long time ago.

The England international delivered attacking returns in each of the first seven Gameweeks of 2019/20 but has now blanked in the last three – two of those favourable meetings with Norwich and Watford.

Wilson’s striking partner Josh King (£6.3m), who was benched for Gameweek 9, was restored to the starting line-up but looked a shadow of his former self too.

The former Blackburn Rovers man, who has scored two goals and registered three assists so far this season, now has just two attacking returns since Gameweek 6.

Fraser was relatively lively but could not carve a breakthrough for his side

Ryan Fraser (£7.1m) and Arnaut Danjuma (£5.8m), making his first league start of the campaign, did their best to add some width to the 4-4-2 formation but could not serve up the goods.

Howe stated his concern post-match at his side’s lack of goals in recent weeks.

“Keeping a clean sheet away from home is positive, but having our third game without scoring is certainly a negative. We don’t normally struggle to score but today at least we did not struggle to create chances.” – Eddie Howe

Bournemouth now have a testing run of fixtures over the next seven Gameweeks, in which they face four of last season’s top-six.

Whether Wilson and King can be considered worthy of investment after having blanked against relegation candidates Norwich and Watford remains to be seen.

Next week’s clash against Manchester United could be a make-or-break occasion for those managers in ownership of either of the Cherries’ attacking duo.

Rico went close to getting more attacking returns for Bournemouth but did pick up a yellow card for his troubles

Perhaps Fantasy managers should start turning their attention to the other end of Bournemouth’s squad as they kept a second successive clean sheet in Gameweek 10.

This highlights, in particular, the value of Diego Rico (£4.2m), who impressed against Watford and could have added to his attacking returns, as he continues to share corner-taking duties with Fraser.

The left-back unleashed a powerful shot from distance in the first half, forcing a save out of Ben Foster (£4.8m).

Gerard Deulofeu was paired with Roberto Pereyra in a two-man strike-force

It must be said though that Bournemouth were helped in this latest clean sheet by a continued lack of cutting edge from Watford.

The Hornets should have arguably gone in front after Abdoulaye Doucoure (£5.7m) missed a golden opportunity to assert an early level of control over the visitors.

Quique Sanches Flores’ side continued to look lively throughout the afternoon’s fixture, with Gerard Deulofeu (£6.1m) striking the post directly from a corner too.

This was the sixth time this season that Watford have failed to score in the league this season, with their five goals scored the joint-lowest of any team in the division, level with Newcastle.

Janmaat’s price and attacking station are worth monitoring

Despite the Hornets’ lack of goals, Flores can take solace in the fact his side are seemingly displaying an increased sense of defensive resilience following their humbling at the hands of Manchester City last month.

Since that 8-0 demolition, Watford have conceded just three goals in four games, suggesting that some of their defensive options, many of whom have depreciated in price, could be worth considering.

Another promising performance from Daryl Janmaat (£4.3m) in the right wing-back position of Flores’ 3-5-2 system should keep him on our Watchlists for now.

Adam Masina (£4.3m) was deployed on the left but may lose his place to Jose Holebas (£4.7m) when he returns from suspension.

The manager confirmed he was pleased with his side’s defensive performance:

“We had our chances, we did not concede goals and we had a good team spirit and this is really good for the future. Defending well is a good base, but I can feel when we are on the opposition’s box the players are still a little bit nervous and they can sometimes take bad decisions. I think the first win is getting closer, the difference with the other teams is not so big and I’m really confident for the future.” – Quique Sanchez Flores

Watford’s injury woes continued right from the off against Bournemouth. Tom Cleverley (£4.9m) was forced to leave the pitch after just 10 minutes with a suspected ankle problem, Will Hughes (£5.5m) replacing him.

Fantasy interest in Cleverley is unlikely to be high but Hughes might be worthy of monitoring given his potential for attacking returns in the past.

Watford XI (3-5-2): Foster; Kabasele, Dawson, Cathcart; Masina (Foulquier 73′) Chalobah (Gray 57′) Cleverley (Hughes 10′), Doucouré, Janmaat; Pereyra, Deulofeu.

Bournemouth XI (4-4-2): Ramsdale; Rico, Aké, S Cook, Smith; Danjuma (H.Wilson 64′) Billing, Lerma, Fraser; J King, C Wilson (Solanke 74′).

    TAA, Robbo, Montoya, Lund, Lowton
    Sterling, KDB, Madds, McGinn, Cantwell
    Vardy, Abraham, Wilson

    1 FT 0.8 ITB

Any moves here? I think priorities are to get Wilson out and maybe McGinn too and look to find a route to bring Salah in from GW13 onwards.

    (a) Wilson -> Connolly (nor) to bank some cash
    (b) save FT
    (c) something else

Wildcard still intact. Thanks in advance!

    WC still intact, 1FT, 0.6ITB
    Pope Button
    VVD Ota Lund Rico Kelly
    Mane KDB Mount Yarmolenko CHO
    Aguero Wilson Tammy

Any ideas? Seems like I need some leicester cover though I'm not sure who.

Far less than I'd hope - Especially with the C on an Aguero coming on as a sub. Otamendi the biggest flop with just 2(!) points since I brought him in so seems he's first to go. Just not sure if I give Aguero the game vs Southampton, but I guess it depends on midweek mins

Any pool fans able to confirm if salah hasn’t trained last two days? Been scraping the barrel on twitter rotating times find something and a couple LFC fan accounts have said he wasn’t seen in media footage for last couple of days.

    What’s people’s thoughts on Firmino?

I’m sitting on 2.5mil in the bank, but unfortunately it’s nowhere near enough to go Maddy > Mane.

I could downgrade Wilson to Maupay and that will get me close to Maddy > Mane (still 0.2 short though). So it’s going to be three transfers to get there.

Instead I’m thinking Wilson > Firm might be a really nice differential.

Just making what I feel is a valid point here and not a brag.

I have one City, Dilva. My team score so far 43 (-4) with TAA, Salah(c), Mane and Jimenez to go.

Obviously I do not know how many points yet from those who are still left to play but I am above the average score so believe good scores can be achieved having none or one City and does not have to be one of the premiums.

I am tempted going no City once more but Dilva just seems to good to let go of 😀

Well, yeah. I’ve captained him for several blanks, and he’s scored those points in fits and starts. Very annoying for my most expensive player...

Sterling actually at 7.1 points per game. Silva at 6 points per game and costs almost half.

KDB is the City midfielder to own but Dilva the most value IMO.

Is a midfield double up with Sterling worth it considering KDB + Dilva double up = far better value?

Someone in one of my mini leagues has had Mahrez (0), Mina (0), Pieters (-1), Digne (-1), Vestergard (-1), Pickford (1) and Lundstram (2) so far for a grand total of 0; with four left to play.

      1. Ramsdale - Tough fixtures and double up with Rico

      3. Gazza - Ok fixtures, could be a good differential

Tried to be smart on WC by getting triple city attack for these 2 home games with dacoure 1st on bench with the plan to change to salah in few weeks, couldn’t imagine kun price drop (owner since early weeks so got at 12 million. The pain I feel now must be why people say don’t plan transfers on your WC ;( lesson learned from a first time player!

No worries. Good lesson to learn.

Planning transfers is not necessarily a bad thing. It's good to have a general idea of what you want to do in the next X number of weeks & in that sense it is fine to plan - but you have to strike that balance with being flexible.

I.E. If you can't do the move you planned, who is it you think you're able to drop instead? Alternatives at price points, team formation etc.

All a balancing act really and we're all reacting to performances we can't control.

For once, I'm fairly happy with my team but I've got 2 FT & 0.8 ITB so there's room for improvement (this is the projection for the next round btw - Lundst&Connolly rotate with bench options all the time).

Was all set on upgrading Cantwell to HudsonOdoi before this week but I sure ain't doing that now.
VanDijk to Trent? A step sideways to free up more cash (Maddison > Tielemans? Cathcart > Janmaat?)
        What do you all think?

        Ryan
        VanDijk Soyuncu Lundstram
        Salah Sterling DeBruyne Maddison
        Vardy Abraham Connolly
        (Pope Cantwell Rico Cathcart)

Not sure what to do when Liverpool’s fixture are great from gw13 onwards, own Sterling, KDB and Vardy so will be hard to also bring in Mane/Salah. KDB/Sterling might have to go, thoughts?

I thought I'd share this thought with the community.

Should goals conceded not be punished more severely in terms of minus points?

E.g. Gunn conceded 9 (nine) and finishes with 0 (zero)

I feel it should minus 1 per goal lost. Just seems unfair compared to points gained for scoring.

        Thoughts?

I'd be in favour of saves being rewarded more handsomely.
However it doesn't quite sit right with me that Southampton shipped the most goals at home in top flight history (?) yet the defenders and keeper aren't penalised harder in terms of FPL points lost

Bertrand has been on the pitch for 22 conceded goals, has 1 card of each colour and yet still has a total score of minus 1.

Jamie Vardy essential? Trying to think how and whether i need to accommodate him in the following team.

        Pope
Taa Digne Lundy — Tomori Rico
Sterling Kdb Dilva Mount — Cantwell
        Pukki Rashford Tammy

A: If rashford (bou, BRI) doesnt score, then rashford >> vardy (cry,ARS)
        B: If pukki (bri, WAT) doesnt score, then Digne/Pukki >> Soy/Vardy (-4)

2 free transfers and 0 m in bank- but feel stuck at present- cannot see any useful moves without getting rid of Sterling or Salah - any advice welcome (Otamendi to Tomori or Lundstram but still will not give enough for suitable Greenwood or Cantwell replacements that I would happily play each week- at present play either Cantwell or 4 defenders )
