He tore a hamstring, then broke our hearts. Sadio Mane’s (£12.3m) injury in Liverpool’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers has ruined many Fantasy Premier League managers’ Double Gameweek 24.

It is understandable that the many Mane owners, in particular those who handed the midfielder their Triple Captain chip, were after some tender loving care from the Scoutcast crew.

Our trio of Joe, Az and FPL Family’s Lee try their best to lift the community’s spirits as they consider the best replacements for the winger.

With a lack of choice among premium assets in the centre of the park, budget options take centre stage, with an eye on pricey picks elsewhere in their squads.

Mane’s injury is likely set to sideline him for the next week or two, which has prompted some to deploy their second Wildcard.

This episode takes in the best players to consider for Wildcardees and also aims to help those yet to use this chip, to find the optimal time to wield it during the season run-in. This discussion also takes in upcoming blank and double Gameweeks, with the picture slowly starting to take shape.

One team we know will have a blank fixture, in Gameweek 28, is Sheffield United, as Aston Villa’s Carabao Cup victory this week means that the West Midlands side’s forthcoming encounter with Chris Wilder’s troops needs to be postponed. The Scoutcast crew consider the best Blades to opt for, given their otherwise splendid schedule.

Elsewhere, Lee takes his turn to pick a differential for the next four Gameweeks, there are clean sheets to consider, and transfer and captaincy plans are revealed.

This Scoutcast was first beamed on Tuesday January 28 via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to get notified of future live episodes.

    Best option out of these?

    A) Robbo, O'Connell & Egan
    B) VVD, Stevens & O'Connell/Egan
    C) VVD, O'Connell & Egan + 0.6m

Only one of the Sheffield United defenders will play each week.

        Have Stephens.
Not going near Brighton defence. I'm wildcarding Dunk out.

I'm planning to BB GW26 that's why I'm going triple SHU def.

Yes Salah TC tonight fingers crossed.

I want to concentrate my transfers on the 11 strongest players for the DGWs. The cheapies rarely come good in the DGWs and they usually always have one tough fixture. Also I don't want be wasting transfers on these players as they will precious for us early wildcarders.

As of now my BB in GW26 would be McCarthy (BUR), Stephens (BUR), Mooy (WAT), SHU def (BOU).
I don't think I can ask for much better fixtures than that.

Gonna discuss sub 5m defensive options from the mid-table sides. Plenty of us have already switched, or will switch, to a double LIV defence, which leaves room for 3 more (cheaper) defenders and 2 goalkeepers. I'm currently considering filling these slots with 5 different teams, to avoid going too deep in case a team loses form or has a blank upcoming, but I wouldn't say no to a defensive double up if the right option arises. Here are the teams I think are worth considering:

    Sheffield United

    Henderson (5.0)
    O'Connell (4.6)
Luxury options: Stevens (5.1) or keep the Lord

    Wolves

    Boly (4.7)
    Luxury options: Doherty (6.1)

    Southampton

    McCarthy (4.4)
    Stephens (4.4)
    Luxury options: Bertrand (4.8)

    Newcastle

    Dubravka (5.0)
    Fernandez (4.4)
    Lascelles (4.2)
    Luxury options: Ritchie (5.3)

    Burnley

    Pope (4.6)
    Taylor (4.2)
    Luxury options: Tarkowski (5.1)

    Manchester United

    Williams (4.1)
    Luxury options: No

    Watford

    Foster (4.9)
    Cathcart (4.4)
    Mariappa (4.3)
    Luxury options: dunno

In all likelihood gonna pick 5 out of these. Avoiding Villa, Brighton, Bournemouth, Palace, Everton, Norwich or WHU because either form or fixtures are bad, for some even both. Thoughts welcome, thanks for reading.

Reason for Burnley/Watford is they don't have blanks, 28 or 31. I'm going Aguero + Auba with KDB and Grealish as well so I need my FTs around those weeks. My ideal wildcard team had Henderson, Stevens and Fleck but unfortunately that's not happening any more

I don't think he's a must sell, but spurs are far from great.

I’m holding onto Son now. Probably do the same with Alli if I had him.

    Mooy or Fleck?

    I have Hendo and Stevens

I prefer Fleck but forced to look elsewhere like Mooy because of the blank in 28.

Are they 4th or 5th mid?

If having to play each week I'd still prefer Fleck I think. But you need to consider GW28 (without it allowing to dictate your every move!)

I’m avoiding Fleck for the GW28 blank as I got the same 2 you mentioned.
Thinking of Saint Maximin myself but Mooy is also an option definitely

Thoughts on this WC? I know about the GW28 blanks and plan is to carry 2 transfers through and to move on one of Auba / Aguero and Fleck for the gameweek to field 11. Anything you'd change? Thanks.

    Dubravka
    TAA / VVD / Lascelles
    Salah / KDB / Son / Traore
    Aubameyang / Aguero / Ings

    McCarthy, Fleck, O'Connell, Boly

You confident with double Newcastle defence?

Fixture run is fantastic and they don't concede many at home which is likely the only time i will consider using the double anyway, depth of squad quality and upcoming fixtures means i won't need to for the most part.

This is for my fanteam squad with the 250k prize-pool where i am currently doing pretty well and 89th in the world, my TV is 110.3, i think using an early 2nd wildcard there could be what i need to steal a march on others and get myself up with the big boys in the top 10, just seems like the time is right for me with my current structure.

We're on the look out for another Scout Picks champion!

Think you have the eye to pick the differentials and form a winning team vs the Scout Picks? We need a Community Champion to represent us vs the Scout Picks for Gameweek 25.

The Community Champion picks a team including a captain to go up against the Scout Picks, within a budget of 85m and in a playable FPL formation. Whichever Gameweek champion beats the Scout’s team by the largest margin will win a £100 Amazon Voucher!

If you're interested in applying, email Geoff (geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) with your FFS username and FPL Team ID.

The Champion will be picked by the end of Thursday, so make sure to enter by then! The Champion then has until 11am Friday morning to send in their team.

    Good luck!

Any suggestions on what to do here? I need to move Mane on but for who?

    McCarthy - Button
    TAA - Soyuncu - Webster - Rico - Reid
    Mane - Salah - KDB - Grealish - Hayden
    Vardy - Ings - Jimenez

    1 FT / 0.2 ITB.

Perhaps this is overthinking but here is my plan, what you think? Injuries might scupper it of course.

    GW25: Soy >> Fernandez
    GW26: Mahrez+Greenwood >> Ings+Hayden
    GW27: Maupay >> Jiménez
    GW28: Grealish >> Pérez

    McCarthy
    TAA • Lunds • Rico
    KDB • Salah • Grealish • Mané • Mahrez
    Vardy • Maupay
    (McGov. Greenwood. Soy. Aurier)

Leaves this team for GW28 with 1 sub (Rico).

      McCarthy
      TAA • Fernandez • Aurier
      Salah • Pérez • Mané • Hayden
      Vardy • Ings • Jiménez
      (McGov. Rico. KDB. Lunds)

Can't imagine there will be too many changes.

Just Mane's replacement and maybe 1 of the midfield 3 (which most of us don't own anyway)

Nervous for tonight because Firmino gave me a huge green last week but a Salah haul can easily undo it. Yes I'm one of those unfortunate Mane TCers.

When are people use bench boost and free hit chips (and wildcards)?

Last season was pretty clear and there were lots of articles but not so this year

For me it will be FH in 31 and WC in 37. Already burned BB.
