Joe, Seb and new regular Scoutcast presenter Andy help Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers prepare for Gameweek 1 and reveal their own teams.

In one of the longest Scoutcasts yet, Joe, Seb and Andy look ahead to the 2021/22 campaign and, in particular, their Gameweek 1 line-ups.

In this season start survival guide special, each of our presenters focus on the key events and information driving their decisions, as they take it in turns to reveal their teams.

For Joe, Fantasy Football Scout’s Complete Guide to FPL Pre-Season has been a major factor in choosing players.

Using the guide, he highlights some of the key developments, particularly in recent friendlies, that have interested him.

This includes the chance for fringe and squad players to shine, while their teammates recover from international duty. Minutes racked up, injury news and tactical tweaks are also covered.

For example, could Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) shine early on in the campaign, with injuries and lack game-time elsewhere among Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City troops?

Armed with an array of statistics, Seb has been using information around last season’s over and underperformers from the Premium Members Area to guide his likely line-up. As a Leeds fan, there is certainly a place or two for the Yorkshire side’s assets in his thoughts.

Meanwhile, Andy marks his Scoutcast debut with an audacious plan to ignore one heavily owned premium pick and instead use his money to spend big on a potentially lucrative double-up elsewhere. If it pays off, he could leave his fellow Scoutcasters for dust this season.

Our trio pick a differential each, which marks the return of an old favourite of Joe’s. There are the next four fixtures to frisk too and the Scoutcasters look back on their career history and outline their realistic goals for the season.

In addition, there’s a new feature. The Scoutcast is taking over the team of a Fantasy manager with a stellar rank who has to dip out of this campaign for mental health reasons. Unable to delete his team without removing his career history, the show is to step in to collectively help him out while he takes a well-earned break to recover.

This episode was aired live via Youtube on Monday 9 August. Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel to get notified of future live episodes.

In addition, the Scoutcast and all our other podcasts are now also available via our Soundcloud channel.

So im really set on having Salah, Bruno and Son in my team.

    Obviously it impacts other areas.

    Martinez
    TAA Shaw Coufal Tsi
    Salah Bruno Son Benrahma
    Ings Toney

    Foster White Gilmour 4.5

When Robbo comes back the plan is to downgrade Martinez to Sanchez and upgrade White to Stones.

That would leave me with a weak bench though.

I might even downgrade Salah depending on how he is doing and get a third striker.

Any other Salah, Bruno and Son teams out there? How is it impacting other areas?

You should be looking for a defender to play GW3 when you have Tsimikas vs Chelsea. Coufal vs Palace is better than Veltman vs Everton.

          • 10 Years
          4 years, 8 months ago

Is it only for GW1? Given that you have triple United, I might be tempted by Ziyech. If you don't have him Barnes vs Wolves is better than all the 7.5 options in my opinion.

            I have Barnes
I will have triple united if i go greenwood.

Between Ziyech and Greenwood then. I think I would go with Ziyech for a real punt.

      • 16 Years

I think this is the question everyone has

Some can be eliminated straight away i think as a GW1 punt is not really how should be playing the game based on fixtures (Ziyeck, Pepe) and to some extent Greenwood (nailedness).

that pretty much leaves Gundo and Wilson imo. Mount the best long term option but thats a post WC pick.

Nothing wrong with a punt on Ziyech/Havertz/Pepe in GW1 with a view to perhaps moving them on in GW2. Play the game however you want.

Pros A: Mahrez over Gundo and an easier route to Son
Pros B: Coufal to come in for Tsimikas gw 3 and onwards rather than Veltman. WHU have CRY, sou gw3-4 which I think can be good scores for Coufal. Also Barnes over Benrahma slightly more proven and not two WHU attackers

Will take your inputs in to consideration. I still think that the fixtures of Everton could provide lot of points for an attacking defender who's also on set pieces...

I have seen one very good BB team with GW4 WC plan. It had Martinez in goal for example. With so many unknowns at the moment and players returning, I have started to question my WC7(-later) strategy. There is quite big risk that I will be forced to take hits or WC early. Should that happen, I will probably be behind those players who have nailed first 3 gameweeks and deadend their teams after that. So how many points can we expect to get more with setting our teams only for first 3 gw:s instead of long run?

    1. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years
      4 years, 8 months ago

Well I guess you'd be attacking those fixtures heavily, likely to mean a Liverpool triple up and possibly one or two double ups. Definitely think take advantage of likelihood of Tsimikas and Amartey playing in those weeks. Fairly weak bench as well, if confident enough you can make an XI that will definitely play all the first 3 games then probably a bench with nothing but fodder.

Either or I'd say, wouldn't predict too much more than 2 goals, 3 assists for either. Bissouma may pick up a few more CS points though.

Wonder if Lukaku doesn't get announced until late tomorrow (or later) if he won't be in FPL until after the deadline. Not that he'll play GW1 anyway (at this stage don't think he'll even make the bench) but not knowing his price beforehand or not being able to have him in early can make planning a little more difficult.

Yeah that's my guess, although a few here have me thinking he might still be 11.5 or even 12. At the minute I have Ings and 3itb so 11 would be great but if he ends up more and we only find out later it'll mean I'll need to use a transfer to downgrade someone, probably someone I don't want to downgrade too.

    Have the following dilemma

Gundo/Greenwood and Toney or Raph and Wilson? Or maybe 352 with Gundo/Greenwood and Raph?

How does Lukaku affect Havertz? Will Mahrez play every week? If Kane moves how does that affect Son?
Lots of questions - personally I'd keep one risk and go Bruno - plus downgrade to a mid price midfielder
