Another week, another record! A total of 4,818 of you entered teams last week, so we’re closing in on the big 5k.

To celebrate, together with our partners at Sorare, we are offering an additional five cards per week. That’s 15 cards up for grabs every tournament and it costs precisely zero to enter.

Perhaps even better, we have been able to upgrade our servers after the increased demand caused a slowing down. Last week was a much smoother experience, so I am told!

Enter a team now and try to get one of those 15 cards. It only takes a few minutes and it’s totally free.

GET STARTED here

Let’s look at last week’s winner and then turn our attention to the upcoming tournament.

Our Winner

Last week was tough. Our winner, Idiocrate86, was not far short of 500 points, which is a huge total. All of his players contributed very strongly.

He picked a squad of very obvious big hitters, which paid off. There is a risk, though: the two managers who came second and third picked exactly the same team.

The tiebreaker is that Idiocrate picked his team first. So, if you are going to go for five well-known big hitters, it’s better to get your team locked in on Tuesday or Wednesday rather than wait for the Friday deadline.

This is also why many people include at least one differential who can separate them from the pack.

Entering a team for this week

It’s a really easy game to play and, to make it even easier, I’ll share some team selection thoughts for the weekend.

Fixtures

Just like Fantasy Premier League (FPL), I tend to start with looking at the fixtures. I have a tool on my website for this:

The green column on the right is the algorithm’s prediction of the team’s chances of winning.

Inter have a great fixture and are generally not quite as heavily used, so their big hitters might be good to target this week, rather than the usual Bayerns and Manchester Citys.

Both of those teams feature on this list. The algorithm expects them to win comfortably but Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen are not exactly pushovers.

Liverpool at home against West Ham United is promising, as all FPL fans will know already. Stade Rennais creep up there vs Angers – the algorithm is onto something there, as Rennes have scored eight goals over the last two games.

Lille and Barcelona round out the best of the fixtures, and both provide interesting options that will not be widely selected.

Form

The Academy makes it really easy to see how players have been doing recently. Hakan Calhanoglu has been on an average run knocking around the 50-point mark.

However, if you have been watching his recent games, you’ll note he’s been unlucky not to get a goal and/or assist. The recent scores are a quick guide and I often use them for this free-to-play Academy game. However, if/when you get more advanced in the main Sorare game, you’ll want to be checking out what really happened in recent matches to get an advantage.

I will look for something at Rennes given that juicy fixture. There is big differential potential. The in-form Martin Terrier could be a great shout. I used to follow Terrier in his time at Lyon a couple of years ago, where bad luck and injury really set his development back. It’s nice to see him finally kicking on – it’s four goals in six games for him.

Lille are promising, so defender Sven Botman and forward Jonathan Bamba would be my picks.

At Barcelona, wonderkid Pedri always looks good and he is in great form. Frankie de Jong is very consistent too. They haven’t been keeping too many clean sheets, otherwise I might have gone for Jordi Alba.

Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester City all provide great options but it is fairly easy to see who they are just by looking at the Academy form guide.

The Final Cut

After last week, where lots of similar teams had to go to a tie-break, I’m going with what I think is a strong line-up of differentials. At least it was until I put it here on Fantasy Football Scout! Although, at least I have entered it first…

Remember the Friday deadline is at 11:00am UK time. And please share the league with your friends so we can hit 5,000 players!

    Who scores more over GW28-30?

    A) Rudiger & Bowen
    B) Dier & Coutinho/Havertz in GW28 & Jota in GW29 -4

    Appreciate your thoughts! 🙂

Possibly as I said we need an update on Firmino. Klopp is also willing to play Mane through the middle to cater for Diaz on the left

That was only because both Jota & Firmino were injured. Jota and Mane are equally nailed imo.

ok so let's try to assess Reece James propsects for DGW28 without any Bias.

He's back from mid-Long term injury so it's fair to say he won't be given 90 minutes before 2 weeks imo.
That being said, he won't get close to full match fitness if he doesn't get game time.

With players returning from injuries you have to consider both concerns:

1- the minutes per game at high intensity you can sustain
2- the workload you can sustain by block of 10/15 days

What's ahead for Reece. Burnley, then a 5 days rest and then a gameblock of
Norwich, Newcastle and Lille within 9 days.

Burnley being a tough game, Reece physical impact will propably be required from the start here. Logic would be that Reece plays around 65 minutes of that game.
Regarding the Norwich game coming after that, 5 days after, I think it's the ideal rest period and opposition to build on that 65 min block and give him another start and 70/75 min block.

The newcastle game looks like an obvious rest for him to me before Lille.

    What are your thoughts?

    1. Firmino

In my current WC draft. I hope you are right and I’d be quite happy to lose him for a doubler/gw30 guy in 29 anyway. Just have to see how that pans out

    3. The Mentaculus
      • 4 Years

I think thats a fair assessment for the most part, however, I think an equally plausible scenario would have him appearing from the bench again v Burnley, starting Norwich, rest Newcastle, start Lille.

I am slowly warming to the idea of just bringing him in this week; not sure if I really want Thiago Silva or Rudiger long-term

      1. rnrd
        • 11 Years
        4 years, 3 months ago

that's indeed the other option. I think it's also linked to Azpilicueta's fitness so this needs to me monitored.

But when coming back and trying to build fitness in particular in endurance sports, you always want to build on the fatigue and I don't think it makes a lot of sense to limit Reece to shorts spells at the moment. It's all about increasing steadily the volume

All good points. The other question is whether he will play in a marauding style or play in the safe passing backwards way he does sometimes. Also risk of him slotting into back 3 with only Rudiger and Sarr not a doubt for the weekend. I've selected him for draft wildcard but thinking of switching to Rudi..

You have no idea how fit he is or if there are any repercussions of the injury. No idea of what his base fitness levels are or how long it takes him to get back up to speed.

It's total speculation, if you're lucky he'll play both and score your some points, if you ain't he will get a 1pter in one and rested in the other.

Feel like from what Tuchel said, he's looked very good in training. Since he came on late for 20 odd minutes last night, I am very optimistic he plays about 70/75 against Burnley. That'll be enough alone to risk it with him for me

      2. rnrd
        • 11 Years

He's fit enough to play 63 min against Liverpool and Tuchel subbing him in 3 days after at the 76' mark at 2-2 with a potential 45 min to play (with ET) is an indication he's quite ready tbh

All I'm saying is, nice post, but at the end of the day it's pure guesswork. Don't overthink it, go with your gut.

I'm signing him as I think the reward outweighs the risk.

You could well be correct here but I would say it is a little hopeful and suits a narrative.

Azpilicueta’s fitness is key as to alternatives available but your 65 mins could easily be 55 or 45 which makes a massive difference for FPL.

Firstly, great analysis. Secondly, I was dead against it for risk of not playing a double in 28. But I think he plays a part in both games, and given his form earlier in the season a return if he plays at least 120 minutes then a return and a single CS would be a good score. So for me it comes down to whether I get him in now, maybe score a little less, but know i've got someone who is going to score well going forward. Or do I plump for someone else and book in one of my remaining transfers to bring him in. I was on the latter, but given I'm on a WC the former and your analysis I am leaning towards getting him this week.

I went Willock becuase of the goals but TBH, I watched the weekends game and Fraser was involved in everything that NEW did offensively. He tore them apart down the left wing. He looked just like he did when BOU were flying high in the premier league. So i wished i had gone Fraser in hindsight.

On WC, gone juicy on differentials. Too juicy? Got a benching headache too. Thoughts?

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Cancelo Silva White Schar
    Salah Son Maddison Ward-Prowse Ramsey
    Vardy Broja Dennis

Well watermelons are usually juicy. Lei do have the best gw30 fixture so you may be onto something. Quite like it actually.

Are you fh gw30? You only have one defender.

Good point. Want a wolves defender instead of schar but cant afford

I like it, though not keen on Dennis. Difficult to pick a cheap striker, as evidenced by Hwang in my draft

Willock or JWP for next two? Got Broja only from both teams.

Willock has a higher open goal threat whereas JWP tends to rely on set pieces

      1. footballcandy

I went Willock because of the price

      2. Fit_to_drop

Did i read something somewhere that Willock took nearly ALL the chances presented to him in recent weeks so he is over-maximising his XGS. I supposed you could argue that that makes him a good finisher too....

Money not an issue for me. Tempted to go Willock as he seems to be more in form. But one pen for JWP changes everything.... Tough one.

Another question. How mad is it to get Robertson instead of TAA on WC? To free up funds. Big risk?

Basically accepting 15-20pts less overall for a saving of £X depending on when you owned him. It's your call either way no big deal.

      1. WATERMELONS

Do you see TAA scoring that much more than Robertson between now and end of the season?

Another question: how much do we expect Leicester to bang against Leeds?

    1. TheTinman
      • 10 Years

Hard to say with a new manager etc. If I had to guess I'd say 2, but anywhere from zero to 5 is no surprise at all. Tough one to call.

Finally wildcarded into the "perfect" DGW maximum for 28 and BB 29... but now... who the h am I gonna captain in 28?

    Choose one:

    RUDIGER
    Salah
    Kane
    Son
    BROJA
    JOELINTON
    WILLOCK
    RAPHINHA

He's half nailed. Probably starts most games but gets taken off at the 70th benchmark ish for a couple of weeks. Worth the risk for me.

    Havertz or Mount folks?

    1. gart888

Mount had as many goal involvements in that 7-0 norwich win as Havertz has had all season.

Mount 7 goals, 7 assists. Havertz 2 goals, 2 assists.

Feel like going Havertz is just being way too cute.

Worth a -4 to bring in Mount (for Cornet or Bowen) and play him over one of Saka or Foden?

    1. TheTinman
      • 10 Years

If you bring in Mount for -4 you alone will be responsible for the inevitable benching.
