Top FanTeam tips from 2020/21 champion and €200k winner Josh Wooldridge

Hi everyone! I haven’t written for a little while, but I thought I would write a hopefully useful piece on which players to target for the final three Gameweeks of the season for the FanTeam season-long game.

I know a few people will either still have Wildcards left, or want to use their precious final few transfers wisely, so I will list the players, and even teams, that I think are worth picking players from. Hopefully, this can help propel you up the rankings in the final weeks.

LEICESTER, ASTON VILLA, EVERTON

The obvious place to start is with the teams who have the most remaining games to play: Leicester City, Aston Villa and Everton. Players from these clubs are really sensible buys over the next few weeks, as they double in Gameweek 36 and 37- so they have four fixtures in the next two Gameweeks.

Let’s take a look at each of these more closely.

Leicester rotation is a little all over the place at the moment, with their involvement in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) aside, I wouldn’t be able to tip a single player who is likely to start two games in a Double Gameweek, so this makes it extremely tricky to want to pick them. I would personally avoid the Foxes, bar the goalkeeper.

Aston Villa have a lot more spots that are appealing. Emi Martinez (£5.5m) is ‘fine’ in goal, but I think Villa have so many outfield options that I would prioritise picking the outfield positions. At the back, Matty Cash (£5.2m) is my favourite, but Lucas Digne (£5.2m) might be an amazing differential. In midfield, there are two main, attractive picks: Jacob Ramsey (£4.7m) is the budget one, whilst Philippe Coutinho (£6.5m) has the ability to be explosive. And finally, up top, Ollie Watkins (£7.1m) is the standout. He’s very likely to get 90 minutes (and bag that extra point as a result) and seems about as nailed as a striker can be.

Everton are the final team with the most games remaining. Richarlison (£6.9m) is by far their best FanTeam option, but be wary of any incoming ban he may get for throwing a flare at the weekend! If he does avoid punishment, the Brazilian will need to step up and be their talisman if they have any chance of staying up. Anthony Gordon (£4.5m) is also a very cheap midfielder on the game who always passes the eye test when he plays. The other thing about Everton I like is that they have a lot to play for, which means the starting XI each game should be relatively predictable.

LIVERPOOL, MANCHESTER CITY

It would be completely negligent of me in this article to not talk about Liverpool and Man City assets, with the title being on the line. I expect both teams to go relatively full strength in Gameweeks 36-38, which in my eyes, makes certain assets completely nailed. Aside from both ‘keepers, I love Joao Cancelo (£7.0m), Aymeric Laporte (£6.3m), Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m) and Phil Foden (£8.2m) for City and Andrew Robertson (£8.2m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4m), Virgil van Dijk (£7.0m), Mohamed Salah (£13.6m) and Sadio Mane (£10.6m) for the Reds. I think all are fantastic options, and some will be big differentials for the final stretch: Mane, for example, is owned by less than 10% of FanTeam managers, with Salah not far off 65%.

THE BEST OF THE REST

I shall summarise all remaining teams with incentives in one snappy paragraph!

I still love Raphinha (£7.5m) from Leeds United, as they are very much in a relegation scrap, and he is their unquestionable talisman. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are locked in a battle for fourth, too, and don’t have any other commitments outside of the league. With this in mind, I love all of the Spurs front three. For Arsenal, I cannot look past Bukayo Saka (£7.0m), who is relatively cheap and is an absolute star already.

I hope this helps you to narrow down the key picks. To decide which of my recommendations to buy really does depend on your team, and who you need to sell. But I really do think a lot of these players will score extremely well over the last three Gameweeks. Good luck everyone!

    B) Richarilson + KDB

              Sure but I still wouldn't expect too much from him, doesn't do too much as an FPL asset, 3 returns since GW21 before the Leeds game (and Leeds' defending for both of his assists was really, really bad). Not saying he definitely won't haul, he's certainly playing better of late than he had been for a fair while but hard to know what you'll get from him

    Robertson - James - Cancelo
    Saka - Mount - Maddison - Foden - Salah
    Kane - Mateta

    White - Broja - Tsimikas

    A) Kane + Mount/maddison -----> Richarlison + KDB (-4)
    B) Kane + Tsimikas ------> Richarlison + TAA (-4)
    C) White ----> 4.6 defender
    D) Something else?

      Are you Bench Boosting? If so, then B - because Tsimikas won't be getting that many minutes. If not and Tsimi can stay last on the bench, then C

            It does seem the sensible approach. Especially to protect my ML lead which is about 50 points. However KDB is a very tempting differential. I'm about 24k OR right now and wanted something to give me a push closer to 10k.

              3 years, 11 months ago

              If you have a ML lead of 50, then even more so B, as guessing most in the ML will also have TAA in their teams, and helps negate them clawing it back.

            Didn't finish that last sentence.... "set u up nicely for the next week you do have players (GW38)" as you know you won't be able to roll the free transfer over to GW38. In that case, just look at who you feel is good for GW38 but not 37 and bring them in.

      I have him - don't get my hopes up! In seriousness, while he seems to 'pass the eye test', he gets the ball a lot, lot of dribbles, on set pieces etc., he doesn't end up with that many points.... I've had him for nearly 12 weeks and think he has returned once when started him.

    Didn’t get a response on the previous thread - any opinions on these options, ladies and gents? Thanks in advance.

    1) Dubravka, Robbo, James, Broja -> Pickford, Matip/Cash, Alonso, Richalison (-12) for 15 DGWers for BB36

    2) Dubravka, Alonso -> Pickford, Alonso (-4) for GW36 to BB with Robbo & Broja
    …followed by…
    Robbo, Broja -> Cash, Richarlison (-4) in DGW37

    Option 1 has a higher upfront cost, but sets the team up for a better GW36/37, while option 2 splits up the cost…thoughts?

      Its quite confusing as you're buying Alonso in one & selling him in another...

        You’re right, good catch. It’s James to Alonso in both options. Can’t afford the 2m for Richarlison without saving costs in defense (ideally DGW upgrades)

      I wouldn't lose Robbo for a hit or James. Both may get only 90 in a double but both more than capable of double figures from that 90 alone.

        • 10 Years

        Thanks…needing a sideways move to free some funds to afford the Dubravka upgrade unfortunately. Has to James, Mendy, Robbo or Broja (all with question marks around minutes in the run-up).

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)
      • 5 Years

      Honestly I don't like either. Dubravka out is OK but don't fancy Pickford for this week, Robbo to Matip a bit sidewards even if benched and Cash plays v Liverpool (and Villa in poor form even with beating Norwich), James to Alonso very sidewards, Broja to Richarlison is OK.

      I know some moves are with DGW37 in mind but big hit to take, not too confident of the payoff

        Good feedback, thanks. You’re probably right about Cash. I suppose I’ll get Pickford or Schmeichel for 36/37, will also have to make another move to afford it and do Richarlison next week. Would you suggest downgrading Robbo to Matip/Alonso, James to Matip/Alonso, or Broja to Gelhardt?

    I have a Kane dilemma I’d love a hand with chaps. Team below with an A/B transfer option, both for -4.

    Pope
    James Rudi Laporte Cancelo
    Salah Son Saka Coutinho Gordon
    Kane

    Dub / White Broja. Ferguson

      A is one of those sideways moves that could be genius but could equally not pay off. Kind of thing I'd only endorse to get differentials over a ML rival. B is ok, but Coutinho to Foden for a hit could also be a bad move. Not a fan of either personally.

        You dont think Foden could do really well this DGW compared to Coutinho? Appreciate Coutinho has a plum 37 DGW but Foden will likely be playing a tired west ham.

    How can I make this BB36 team better?

    Ramsdale-Foster
    TAA-Robbo-Cancelo-Laporte-Alonso
    Salah-KDB-Coutinho-Saka-KDH
    Pukki-Dennis-Nketiah

    1 FT, 1.1ITB

    Some possibilities:

    A) Coutinho->Kulu
    B) Foster->Schmeichel (makes getting CHE mid in 38 very difficult without a hit)
    C) Coutinho/Dennis OR Pukki->Kulu/Richarlison for -4
    D) Your awesome idea
    E) Leave the team alone

    I'm FHing in 37 so selling Coutinho is on the table as I won't want him in 38.

    Thoughts appreciated.

      If you're selling Coutinho because he plays Liverpool in one game then Kulu possibly wrong choice. I don't have any awesome ideas so maybe E? It's a nice team

      Don't really fancy any of them - B and C possibly don't play two games and but a Arsenal double up isn't the option it was.

      Would you rather have a Spurs or Villa def and keep Dubravka instead of schmeichel?

        Tough. Dubravka will probably need save points to score much this week. But Spurs and Villa both have Liverpool so likely only 1 clean sheet anyway. I'd probably choose which is likely to be a better option beyond 36 as the decider

                Go A then. Probably better chance of returns and enough upside with Schmeichel to make it worthwhile

          Should be as Reguilon is out injured again. Don't know the expected return date but I feel like Conte may prefer Sess anyway

          Said it above, but Robbo and James could outscore any of the other options in one game. However for free I'd probably lean towards losing James due to Chelsea poor form

    Currently doing Robbo to Cancelo. Anything worth a hit here:

    Ramsdale

    KDB Son Saka KDH Coutinho
    Kane

      It depends who they are and who they replace, but taking a -8 for a good BB isn't a terrible move (on a likely -8 or risky -12 myself)
