In case you missed it earlier, Mark Sutherns joined Andy North for another pre-deadline chat about all things Gameweek 2.

Erling Haaland (£11.6m) predictably dominates discussion – has Mark made a move for the Norwegian after going without him on the opening weekend?

The four-time top 1k finisher also discusses Gameweek 1 variance after his two Tottenham Hotspur assets somehow failed to score in a 4-1 win over Southampton.

As well as revealing their Gameweek 2 teams and transfers, Mark and Andy also answer some questions from those tuning into the stream live.

Only Premium Members of Fantasy Football Scout will be able to watch the video below, so make sure you sign up today to get access to not just this stream but also exclusive YouTube content from Mark throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Get the feeling that this City v Bournemouth game is gonna be like a 6-0 drubbing by City, Great things are expected from Mr. Haaland.

I know! Ha! I do genuinely have a good feeling about him though, and I’m usually not confident about any captain picks, but from him and Salah it’s definitely Haaland for me here.

    Hi there

    Please choose:

    Play 1
    A) Perisic
    B) N. Williams (home vs West Ham)
    C) Andreas (away vs wolves)

    Thanks!

Depends on your risk appetite. If you want to take risks, play Perisic and hope for the best. If you want it safe, play Neco and hope for the best. If you want a middle ground, play Andreas and hope for the best.

If you are adventurous, sell Perisic and buy a nailed defender.

Against Champions League rivals Chelsea? You'd think that's what Conte brought him in for.

Problem is, at Inter Milan under Conte, he wasn't guaranteed to play 60 mins even if he started.

Hmmm, not sure about that logic. Yeah, sure he's got him to be in the first team, but does that mean he gets rushed in just because an early fixtures is Chelsea?

Also, GW1 performances matter. Sess is ever improving, Perisic will likely decline in the next few years, maybe now.

Peresic showed in the last friendly that he's fit enough to start. Sess's form in the first game is the most salient point in my book; it's a question of whether Conte trusts him against higher-quality opposition, or goes with Peresic's experience.

FREE agent, so in my books, as 33 year old never played in PL, and in a very demanding position, Perisic is not picked by Conte to play everuthing but to have more alternatives. Unpopular opinion, but that is how i see it. People are also underestimating Sessegnon. Was one of the brightest future prospects some years ago, when he came through at Fulham. Alot of injuries followed, but if he stays fit, he is just as good if not better than Perisic.

        1. banskt
          • 13 Years
          4 years, 21 days ago

Price rises are not a concern. Among the players who increased in price, I think I only want Haaland, Mitrovic and Darwin in the long term. May be Zinchenko -- but it is too early to know if he is nailed. Of them, I already have Haaland and Mitrovic. So, its only Darwin whose price rise I have missed.

How many people do you want? Enough to justify a WC. I start with cheap playing players and money itb and a 343 just so I can fix things with a couple of trades rather than WC. Never understand this big 5 at the back which always seems to backfire early season

            1. banskt
              • 13 Years
              4 years, 21 days ago

I have a 4-4-2, and desperately want a move to 4-3-3. Salah + Dervisoglu --> Saka + Darwin. And spread the rest of my money around, but those are less important. Currently, I am holding out dearly to my WC although I think the above move is crucial for my team to score more points. If I can ride out GW2 with my current team, its only a -4 hit before GW3. That's why I am taking the risk of going into GW2 without Darwin. I will reassess after this GW is over.

Have been playing this game long enough to know how to resist a knee-jerk. But, somehow, I have nearly convinced myself that this is not a knee-jerk. Still, will hold on another week.

Ted wrote an interesting article yesterday highlighting the data can look lopsided when judging players who come on as subs. It may be that Darwin is less lethal when he starts rather than come on against tired defences. I too would like Darwin for my 4.5 benchie, but I'm not ready to take hits or tear up a perfectly good squad for the sake of one player (who isn't Haaland!)

I feel a lot will change this GW. Man of us designed their teams for GW 2 and beyond. Arsenal, City, Spurs and Chelsea have terrific fixtures from GW 3. So if you're planning on removing players from these teams I would advise against it.
United, Wolves and Villa assets can be replaced with Mitrovic, Wilson, Trippier, etc....

        1. Andy_Social
          • 14 Years
          4 years, 21 days ago

Agree. Presumably, people put a lot of thought into their GW1 squads, planning weeks ahead. What changed? Poor returns from Liverpool defenders, Jesus, Kane and Son were just 'one of those days' issues. Maybe Villa underwhelming, but the only real significant new factor in GW1 was Haaland turning out to be fit and sufficiently gelled with City's tactics to hit the ground running. That's it. Taking a hit to get Haaland makes sense, but any more dramatic ripping up of squads at this point is hard to understand. For people who save a FT this week, using 2FT to get Nunez might be a decent ploy, but at this point in time I'd say he's no Haaland and doesn't deserve the same level of panic.

I can see Bournemouth parking the 5 man defence bus at Etihad today and it posing City some real challenges. Haaland won’t have the same space to get behind them and use his pace/power like last week. A totally different challenge. They’ll win I am sure but I feel Liverpool on a Monday night will have more goals about it. Salah (c) feels good.

The thing with Haaland is he's great in the air and a good target man in the box too. So a deep defence will mean him lurking in the box and City probing to find him. Honestly would be baffled how to play against them now. In previous years it was easy (you'd still get beat a lot, but the system that works against them bear fruit often)

Checked up on press conferences etc.

Lots of injuries but not in the template picks.

One more decision before I lock. 3 players, only 2 can start:
    A - Perišić & Kulusevski
    B - Kulusevski & Andreas
    C - Perišić & Andreas

I'm leaning towards B unless I KNOW Perišić will start.

      B. Even if he does start, it's Chelsea, so think benching Perisic is an easy one.

Anything you'd change up for a hit?

    Raya
    Trent, Robbo, Cancelo, Trippier
    Salah, Kulusevski, Martinelli, Bailey
    Haaland, Jesus

    Ward. Andreas, Greenwood, Neco.

    £0.5m itb.

        Cheers.

I guess Bailey to KDH is one direction on last week's points returns. See what both can do this week first.

KDH played 72 mlns but I didn't watch Leicester or Villa.

Bailey to KDH would be too sideways for me - a cheap player in one poor team to another. I'd rather use Bailey in a 2FT as part-exchange for someone I really want (thus Bailey out for a 4.5 benchie).

I'm secretly hoping that Damsgaard at Brentford replicates his form at the Euro fantasy league last year when he was racking up the points for Denmark.

At 5.5 he could be a great replacement for Bailey

No Haaland, No KDB - Have Salah, but deciding to captain Cancelo, I feel that even though Salah ownership is high if Salah bangs on Monday I assume most people have Haaland captain anyways so I won't lose much rank if he does go crazy.

Just tell me I'm an idiot and I'll carry on with this decision, thanks

You're an idiot if you don't captain Salah on that basis.

      Why Cancelo?

Idiot yes, but fun hell yeahh. I think Man City will win 4 - 0, clean sheet potential assist + bonus points

Palace are a solid team, I can't see Liverpool winning with more than 2 goals - risky 100% but we play for fun decision goes wrong got 36 game weeks left, would rather take risks now

TBH if you're not capping Salah most games then your $13m is better spent elsewhere.

Well it might depend on how often Haaland gets rested or brought off before returning, and that might kick in soon when the CL midweeks commence.

Lets be honest, everyone who owns Haaland is captaining him this gw and at probably next one as well. Would you suggest everyone else who isn't captaining Salah to remove them from their team? Like you say "most" gw's, I just fancy this punt - I'll either be genius or a disaster haha

    C) not make a keeper transfer and wait for wildcard

I always said it was a false economy. If you've got the money, I'd upgrade. However, it might be worth seeing out this GW to decide which of Sanchez or Ramsdale will be the best investment.

I've had fun playing around with my wildcard this week and have had all sorts of formations and players in but I'm about to put my pen down after one huge final decision...
I've removed Mo after being in my team all week!

Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure but here it is, the final draft:

    Sanchez
    Robertson Diaz Saliba
    KdB Diaz Saka Martinelli
    Haaland Darwin Mitrovic
    (Ward Andreas Patterson Neco)
    0.5

(GL to all and enjoy the football)

I'd take TAA and DaSilva over Diaz and Patterson for the same price

Also, Welbeck has better fixtures (and stats?) than Mitrovic, but that could be 50:50 and then swung by Mitro's pens

      Good team. Good luck
