Our series of in-depth club-by-club 2022/23 analysis continues with a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Everton review.

Here, we take a look at each top-flight side’s campaign, analysing them from an attacking and defensive perspective. We’ll also explore their biggest goal threats and most potent creators.

A preview of each club will follow closer to the big 2023/24 kick-off, factoring in new transfers, pre-season results and fans’ expectations.

2022/23 EVERTON REVIEW: ATTACK

TotalRank v other clubs
Goals scored3419th
Shots42912th=
Shots in the box27913th
Shots on target14612th
Big chances6512th
Expected goals (xG)45.6015th
Non-penalty expected goals (NPxG)43.2314th

It was another season of late survival for Everton, who recorded a final-day 1-0 win against Bournemouth that condemned Leicester City and Leeds United to relegation.

The Toffees were 19th, winless in eight and had collected just five points from 12 matches when Sean Dyche was named as Frank Lampard’s replacement ahead of Gameweek 22.

Their underlying attacking stats end with a general mid-table rank in most areas except the crucial one – goals. Nobody scored fewer at home and only Wolverhampton Wanderers were worse overall.

Everton’s expected goals (xG) tally for all 38 outings was 45.60 – no team has underperformed as much as this (-11.60).

But Dyche brought four 1-0 Goodison Park wins and a freak 5-1 blitz at Brighton and Hove Albion, enough to pull them over the line.

Above: Everton’s attacking stats under Frank Lampard (left) and Sean Dyche (right). Most stats given are per game.

In fact, since Dyche arrived, the Toffees accumulated the eighth-most shots (231) and seventh-most on target (79). They were also joint-ninth for big chances (37) and tenth for xG (25.16).

True to form, the former Burnley boss made his new side a threat at corners and free-kicks: Everton were third for xG from set plays after his appointment.

Question: aren't some people taking time off?

I haven't been here the last month. Took a good break. Served me well.

No, we all just spent the past month talking about beards and slugs but then I guess we are just built different.

Bayern launch official bid for Kane. Big FPL implications if he leaves. Strongly recommend they don't launch the game until this is resolved. If we have to wait until September, so be it.

If he leaves in the January transfer window, they'll have to declare the game null and void.

Wow, Richarlison might actually score more than 1 league goal if he leaves.

Hi everyone, just logged on for the first time since the season finished ( I really needed to step away, albeit if only for a few weeks 🙂 ) but, my text size has gone really small on my phone on the F/F Scout app. Do any of you know to get it to resume to its normal size? Thanks very much, it’s good to be back 😀

It might be the desktop version causing the small text.
Try clicking the icon in the bottom left of the phone screen, the icon looks like a TV, to switch between mobile and desktop.

No chance. Maybe Branthwaite and Patterson.

Branthwaite will possibly be a starter if they don’t bring in a new CB. Could easily be that 4.0 def we’d want.

    2. Conners

      Zero chance I reckon.

He'll be 4.5 same as defenders from Palace, Wolves, Bournemouth, Forest, etc.

(Unless of course FPL has adjusted its' pricing across the whole game)

Why would a player who played every minute of the season get a price reduction to that of a non starter? Won’t happen

loftus cheek to ac milan...chelse just wasting young talent. out on loan after loan while they fill the teams with star names they never have a chance of displacing even though you feel a decent run and they'd really kick on. loftus cheek looked amazing at times-strong, quick, great dribbler , ready made for the prem- but how motivated can he or any of them be at that club? mount the obvious exception but would he have broken in to the team if it wasnt for transfer ban and lampard having him at derby?pocchetino really should be looking at just what is going wrong there

Loftus Cheek is a permacrock, there’s a reason why none of the clubs he’s been loaned to wanted him.

      Young talent... he's 27.

RLC was given multiple chances and he didn't kick on. Yes, he has all the tools but he is mentally not strong enough. If he was French, and not English, he would have been out the door 5 years ago and nobody would have batted an eyelid.
Given enough chances, time for Chelsea to cut their losses and reinvest.

Fingers crossed I’ll be able to afford this team.

I currently can but I think LiveFPL is off the mark in some areas.

Atleast I can then relax until the deadline.

    Pickford
    TAA Saliba Porro
    Saka Odegaard Diaz Mbeumo Wissa
    Haaland Gakpo

    4.0 Fofana/Colwill Cash/Dougherty 4.5

If Mbeumo is a forward, then I’d just get a 4.5 midfielder.

The worst case scenario would be Gakpo remaining as a mid and Mbeumo as a mid - this is unlikely, though.

That Diaz + Gakpo double up would be a massive differential.

I'd be surprised if Brentford didn't sign a Toney replacement, in which case Wissa's game time could be unpredictable.

It's also unclear which two from Jota, Gakpo and Diaz will get most minutes. Darwin too.

It's a nice team overall though.

Porro unlikely to be in the starting 11 for Spurs 0 but he will be gold when he plays. I actually fancy Vicario as GK if Spurs gets him, looks like a lot of saves potential

You can get it delivered to your door probably for free.

Klopp slightly prefers Diaz on the left when fully fit at the moment. Situation could quickly change though.
