After brining Martinez Bailey and Watkins this week, the game was a final nail to my coffin this season, it wasn’t fun playing FPL at all this time

The FPL scoring is so limited / dictated by variance, that bringing in 3 guys from one club for one game is going to have huge risk

This game is never fun. Like your teen daughter continuing with stupid stuff each day because she is "on a streak", playing this game every season is possibly the stupidest "streak" ever!

What would you do with this team and 2ft and 0.5m ITB?

    Dubravka l Areola
    Trippier l Porro l Colwill l Tsimikas l Kaboré
    Salah l Saka l Gordon l Palmer l Soucek
    Salah l Watkins l Jesus

Could go Colwill to Zinchenko if I could find 0.2m somewhere. Colwill should rise before Zinchenko, and I could do Kaboré (going to AFCON) to a 3.9m defender.

From the rules: "The first wildcard will be available from the start of the season until Sat 30 Dec 11:00. The second wildcard will be available after Sat 30 Dec 11:00".

      1. Sheffield Wednesday
        • 5 Years

        My rules read differently:
"The Wildcard chip can be used twice a season. The first wildcard will be available from the start of the season until Sun 31 Dec 00:00. The second wildcard will be available after Sun 31 Dec 00:00 in readiness for the January transfer window opening and remain available until the end of the season. The Wildcard chip is played when confirming transfers that cost points and can't be cancelled once played." So Saturday 30 Dec midnight is the cutoff.

Have a bit of a dilemma, any thoughts welcome!

    1) TAA + Hee Chan (Archer on the bench along with Lascelles/Branthwaite)
    2) Colwill + Richarlison (Solanke first sub + same def)

Was planning to go with 2 but getting TAA fomo…is he worth having a weaker 7th attacker and bench?

Watch them all play this GW first. I would lean 1. Just really like the ceiling of TAA and Hwang also has a decent next 3 games. Also issue with 2 is benching Solanke at home to Fulham is not ideal.

      1. C0YS
        • 10 Years

In all honesty Solanke will play vs Fulham in option 2. He’ll just be on rotation and on the bench more often than not due to competing with Salah/Son/Gordon/Palmer/Richy/Haaland/Watkins.

        Would that change your vote?

A large fail. Looking at my competitive mini leagues, it's like 90% Watkins (c) which means anyone that didn't has a huge opportunity now.

This is why I went with him over Son or Salah in the end. Safety in numbers. New manager bounce for Sheffield and he rarely hauls, but on the off chance he did return, I wanted part of it. Now he has blanked, it is most of the game's captain out of the way already.

I think EO is one of the most overrated things in FPL.

Rank doesn't matter until GW38. Make the decisions that you think will get you the most points. Did you really think Watkins would be the top scoring player in your team this week?

I asked myself this question and said no. I understand that some people would say yes to that, but I didn't and so I didn't cap him. Play your own game and forget about ownership. It's way better that way!

        1. Royal5
          • 14 Years

Rank matters big time. Because if you are in the lead you just have to keep the other behind you by matching the points and take low risks.

My logic exactly. Safe, template choices have allowed me to slowly creep up the ranks and my MLs after a terrible start this season.

And yes, he was the obvious choice this weekend. Great form and up against the worst team in the league. Salah and Son literally up against the 2 best defenses atm. In hindsight it’s easy to look at it as a fail but he could have returned and the story would be different.

Keeping track of rank makes you make suboptimal decisions imo or at least decisions based on factors other than picking the players that you think will score the most points.

This is ultimately detrimental to your overall rank if you are a good manager capable of making better decisions than your peers (i.e. you're a better manager). What others do has no impact on whether a fantasy asset is going to do well or not.

All that matters is how your players do on the pitch. Unless your sole focus is to win a specific mini league against specific opponents (and even if that is the case, it wouldn't matter until the final 3 weeks imo), you're better off just making decisions based on who you think will score the most points - whatever that methodology is - eye test, stats, team news etc.

            1. Royal5
              • 14 Years

I agree at some points, but if you try to be too different you are likely to fail imo. The average wins. A couple of differentials is always good.

I never 'try to be different', I pick who I think will do best. That means my team is usually very template. But when there are opportunities, or at least where I think I see spots to get ahead, I go for them without concern for EO.

Maddens me when I make a decision based out of fear of loss rather than promise of gain. I just can't play FPL that way.

It’s a great feeling to pull off a differntial manager paying off. Still remember capping Charlie Austin for a hatty years ago. Huge green arrow 🙂

I was doubtful he would score for aforementioned reasons but still safer in numbers and keep up the momentum I have had recently. 3.3m in GW11 and 600k going into this GW. Everybody in my MLs has captained him too. Now it is down to the rest of our squads and mine is better. This is why I didn't bring in Konsa too!

Need to look into the data but feel like he doesn’t do as well against lower defensive lines

Hence Watkins is more effective away even though Villa tend to be better at home.

But then it's players like Luiz and Bailey or Diaby before getting the goals etc.

I have a benching headache for this coming GW. Livra, Tsimikas, Saliba and Porro. I need to bench one. Do we think ether of the first two are unlikely to play and be rested?

Yeah I thought this. I wouldn't mind risking it but will he cameo? Livra is another who may be benched and then cameo with Burn and Botman back

I played him this week as I thought he could play in defence but could also play further forward for Gordon IF he is out, so two options

Not sure..... Newcastle's home form is great and he tends to do with with BPS. The question is if Burn and Botman coming back affect his minutes.

Tsimikas for sure. Would fit pattern of being rested in the away games against promoted teams (LUT, SHU). See if he plays 90 this GW.

Livramento tough to say. Think most expect him to be rested this GW but would then feel harsh for him to no longer be a starter given he’s been great since coming into the team.

With Howe having choice again and Robertson not too far away from returning, worth looking at upgrading them to Trippier and TAA with the Salah/Son funds.

        1. The Big Fella
          • 9 Years

I won't be selling Salah and Son. I have too much value locked up in them as I have had them since the start and won't be able to get them back. I will downgrade Tsimikas when Robbo is due back and get Haaland back and I will ride the wave.
