Can we talk Eze for a minute?

Eze under Glasner averaged 6.5 points per game which would have him around the Gordon upwards mark from last season. What I don’t get is if you use the comparison tool, there’s very little difference pre Glasner to post Glasner output. Minutes per shot attempt virtually level, minutes per chance created slightly down. XGi slightly up. Is this a stats bomb article in the making to see the quality of opportunity consider the difference seems to be blocked attempts?

What I don’t see is any correlation to when Olise started or not which I’ve heard as a negative for Eze. It does on paper seem it will continue and at 7 mil, looks a bargain?

He’s a little bit more in the channel rather than in the middle third looking at the average position map. Wing back helping and the fact he doesn’t have to track as far back so can break more effectively?

I'm risking a light defence to fit him in. Could be the bargain of the season imo.

First four fixtures look great. Even the Chelsea one with Maresca and his inverted right back logic. Looks a pocket for Eze to exploit if you ask me

7 mil I have Eze, maybe on pens too. However, last season many had Eze from GW1, and he kept blanking, despite good stats.

Comparing his first 12 weeks last season to Glasner periods and the correlation is still blocked shots. Looking at team stats over the same periods and there’s not much difference in total goal attempts but the big chances go through the roof. Think this is more down to the wing back helping Eze be that slightly more central combined with a manager who through tactics creates clear cut, rather than climatic chances.

Hughes and Wharton in midfield has done it imo. Them combined against Lerma and Doucoure opening weekend against Shef Utd last seasonopens up the game

      MGW.

Pens, half of set pieces, free kicks, captain of his club and playing in the ten. Fixtures allow the gamble.

Nuno made him prime creator as his distribution numbers highlight. Look at his big chances created since GW18 and see what company he’s in.

Home game, promoted side and then he will always turn up against Wolves.

I am a Forest fan btw

It depends where the 1 mil can be used. CHO scored 7 in 15 starts under Nuno, he had licence to cut inside on his right knowing there was more space and as a team we were slightly more inclined to build under Nuno than Cooper, which gave him the platform to do so rather than feed off scraps. This put him on the ball in the spaces that hurt the opposition. That isn’t going to stop when the fixtures are good and as a team we can maintain parity with the opposition.

I'm not exactly new to this game but why would they price Haaland, who had a points per game of 7 last season at 15 million whilst Cole Palmer who had a points per game of 7.2 is 10.5?

Even Foden who had a points per game of 6.6 is 9.5

    15 to 9.5 is 5.5

    That's ridiculous

5.5 million for 0.4 more points per game?

Saka and Son all had points per game of in the 6's

Surely everyone just picks a heavy midfield and gets a better defence?

I agree Haaland is very over-priced. He does have quite a lot of shots though so the new BPS will help him. He is not a reliable captain pick IMO, often returning 6 or 7 points. I would rather give it to a mid like Palmer.

Got him for opening fixtures, then ditch and get him back later at some point.

He braced first game last 2 seasons, and I am sure he wants to make a joke of sideshow Bob Cucurella.

Haaland scored 55 more in the previous season. You can always hope he fails and avoid as much as possible.

        • 12 Years

But I'm talking about points per game

Haaland is not going to fail is he with a points per game of 7 but neither are many others with a slightly lower points per game

He was injured for 3 months last season so forget about total points but there is absolutely no way he is worth 5 million more than Saka

Need to factor in captaincy. 55 points less but 214 mins less. One hatrick and 50% owned and most captained will hurt a bit if your captain fails. Agreed on the value for money.

            No doubt

But with a point per game of 'only' 7 points I guarantee an Isak captain and 6.5 million to invest elsewhere will more than get those points back

Haaland is going to blank or get 7 points more times than score a hat trick

Gordon only returns when at home, are people not concerned he only has 2 home games in the first 3. 1 of which is against Spurs, who don't have the best defense, but wont be a push over.

Last season I was consistency benching Gordon for away games in the second half of the season.

Genuine Q - were his stats way worse in away fixtures? I appreciate the returns were night and day.

I kinda think Newcastle were so stretched with Europe and injuries last season, and the club will be focused on improving away from home. Not to suggest he and the team will be stellar away overnight, but I also think he won't just blank every away match either. Might also just be justifying picking him!

He wont blank in all of course. But that's the data we have to go on at the moment. So IMO, its strange to ignore that and bet against it. Hopefully managers like Moxon can prove me wrong!

It could be appropriate to fade him or carry a viable 8th attacker when he's away. I penciled him into a first draft but who knows where I'll be in a month. If they put 4 or 5 past Southampton I'm concerned not having him means an immediate early hole

Yea, he was one of the first names on my team sheet until I checked the fixtures. Liked him since he was Everton. I will have him at some point, but not keen for now. Think there are loads of good options around 6.5mil who will outscore him in the first 5.

He's still a Dm people don't fancy him too much and better options at that price, Gordon, kudus etc

He'll start I reckon, Chelsea away won't be easy and Rodri is arguably their most important player, and he is a strange one in that people see him as a DM so don't go for him, but he does chip in with his share of attacking returns so not a bad pick for his price imo

    Current draft GK & defence:

    Pickford - Sanchez
    Saliba - Gvardiol - Munoz - Castagne - Faes

    Any glaring errors here?

Looks pretty solid. Fulham fixtures are good but I'm just wary their defence used to be massively impacted whenever Palhinha was out. Not really keen on Faes or any Leicester/Southampton defenders - for the 4m spot I prefer Barco if playing LWB in preseason with Estupiñan out, or else going for Jacob Greaves (IPS).

I'm currently on this for the first 5 GWs then will look to get an Arsenal defender after City:
      Gvardiol Muñoz Davis VdV Barco
      Gvardiol

Having been steady at 30% ownership for first few days Haaland starting to creep up, now 31.6%

What percentage do you start to get concerned?

I've built a draft based strongly on opening fixtures. 'Plan' is to save up 4-5 FTs. So I'm Liverpool, Chelsea, Forest and Villa heavy.

Depending on preseason I'll probably be taking a punt with Bradley and TAA alongside Salah as by pool triple up .

Looking at the Man Utd squad, it still seems massively lacking in quality.

For example would any of them get in either the Man City or Arsenal teams? I'd suggest no...with Bruno the only one as a possible? Luck Shaw perhaps at Arsenal if Timber doesn't perform

i would think Mainoo and Garnacho would make both squads and push for playing time, likewise Martinez if fit

I think they need two experienced players. One in defence & the other in midfield but they are busy signing young players for the future which isn’t bad. Although, I think they need a quick fix.

Would signing young talents from abroad with zero PL experience be the solution? I don’t think so. Would say they easily finish the season 6th or more.

To a large extent, these two played a vital role in them not getting relegated last season. Heaven knows if it had not been for them, we wouldn’t even be talking about the club right now.

Shame they got Varane at a time when his injury record got worst & the amount they spent on Casemiro doesn’t justify his performance but was the little man Fred any better? 😆

😆 well, manchester united is a cursed club, don’t see young talents being the solution at this time. Maybe in 5 years time, they would be back in the Champions league.

Which combo? No Haaland or any other City player:

    A) Foden, CHO, Muniz
    B) Bernardo, Andreas, Watkins
    C) Gordon, 4.5, Watkins

Not sure o this draft, very weak bench, but midfield is good, what do you think?

    Sanchez
    Gvardiol / Munoz / Mykolenko
    Salah / Gordon / Foden / Eze / Palmer
    Isak / Havertz

    Turner | Barco | Faes | Stewart

Pep might upset your plans pretty regularly, Sanchez also a risk, but it is a nice draft

Yeah would expect a drop in captaincy points that week, but it’s only 1 week and overall I prefer having the higher ceilings from more spots. Also think the likes of Foden (IPS) or Palmer (wol) could score big in GW2

Not sure about Saka & Foden to start tbh - those are the two that I'm most wary of post-Euros fatigue. Doubt Arteta would actually rest Saka but we might see those jaded type of performances; wouldn't be surprised if Pep actually gives Foden light mins initially

Yeah you could be right. Saka rarely ever gets a rest and he’ll have had a month of so I think he starts. Foden more of a risk but I also think he starts. Considering Son also - can see him getting joy away at LEI and he’s on pens. Despite having a “poor” season he was still the 4th highest scoring mid.

    Flekken, Valdimarsson
Van de Ven, Andersen, Burn, Konsa, Faes
    Salah, Saka, Nkunku, Madison, Foden
    Watkins, Isak, 4.5

    Have 1.5 itb.
Upgrade a defender to get Gvardiol?
    Get Munoz and Pedro?
Upgrade 2 defenders to 5.0 and save 0.5?

I feel like Leif Davis will be this year’s Alfie Doughty. Handy for assists, but not gonna keep enough cleans.

Hutchinson and Chaplin might do OK further forward.

Priced lower than FPL...Salah, Palmer, Son, KDB, Odegaard

...needless to say that Haaland is downgraded by Fan Team with the likes Watkins, Havertz, Darwin and even Jackson priced higher than FPL.
