LIVERPOOL: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

TITLE FAVOURITES

FPL notes: Bradley injury latest, Liverpool win title + Evanilson banned

Liverpool were runaway champions in the 2024/25 season and, quite clearly, the best team.

They ended up finishing 10 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, even though their performances slowed down a bit as the season went on.

They also topped various attacking metrics, including goals, shots, big chances and expected goals (xG).

No surprise, then, that Arne Slot’s side are the early favourites to retain their crown in 2025/26.

Above: Teams sorted by xG Difference in 2024/25

DREAM SUMMER WINDOW

FPL pre-season: Does a Bradley knock make Frimpong likely to start?

Liverpool have splashed the cash this summer, and they probably aren’t done yet!

Buying players from a position of strength, they’ve signed Florian Wirtz (£8.5m), Hugo Ekitike (£8.5m), Milos Kerkez (£6.0m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£6.0m).

The Reds are set to make a second bid for Alexander Isak (£10.5m), too, after their initial £110m offer was rejected.

It’s a scary prospect, particularly given their 2024/25 dominance.

LIVERPOOL: REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

NO TRENT / LACK OF DEFENSIVE COVER

Everton v Liverpool team news: Alexander-Arnold on the bench

There aren’t many potential issues for Liverpool this season; however, the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid leaves a creative void that has to be filled.

The roaming right-back served up 43 FPL assists across his final five seasons at Anfield.

It will also be crucial to monitor how Liverpool manage with traditional full-backs on both sides of the pitch, as it could impact their ability to keep clean sheets.

The centre-back role requires additional depth as well, following the sale of Jarrell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, especially with Joe Gomez (£5.0m) currently injured.

Got Sels over Sanchez now too. So had to have some Chels def cover. Other than Cucs the rest are such meh picks

    Kelleher
    Milenkovic Murillo Tarkowski
    Palmer Gakpo Malen Bruno
    Watkins Thiago Haaland

1.5m itb currently to upgrade on Thiago probably
CBs interchangeable for anyone around that price point

    Thoughts?

Maybe upgrade Tarkowski to a 6m. Everton started slow last seasons and pre-season wasn't good. Thiago to Raúl?

6m is too much to spend on a single cb imo with the value now in cheaper picks

Disagree. Cucs first 3. VVD won't keep a clean sheet in GW 2 or 3; even one is tough against Evanilson

cant say that, liv are still a top 3 defence in the league and his first 3 opponents havent looked settled in pre season...bou looking weak with the loss of many players , newcastle under turmoil and arsenal still looking for a system to fit gyokeres , not to forget vvd is good for bonus + defcon and always a threat at set pieces and nailed for every minute

Closing in on my team for now. Idea is to WC GW13, FH GW6 and BB before WC. Team looks like this, with the three cheapest mids/fwds rotating, starting 2/3 each week. Any thoughts?

    Sánchez
Milenkovic - van de Ven - Wan Bissaka
    Salah (C) - Palmer (V) - Bruno - Anderson
Raúl - Watkins - Solanke (Mateta if not fit)

Bench: Dúbravka, Dewsbury Hall - N. Williams - Estève

I've had a real aversion to re-classified mids to forwards, but Bowen losing only 5 points whilst retaining an affordable price tag

We had the Havertz debate last season and whilst he faded (such is the curse/life of mids classified to forwards), the bonus system meant he was a decent option early on

Meanwhile, I've started to focus in on Cunha. Been quite dismissive of Utd, but Cunha looks an enticing option

Interesting that Saka and Cunha were electric options last season, penalty takers and yet had only one pen between them!

RP on latest article. Plus extra thoughts

Every time I open a new tab on this site I get the LIMITED TIME OFFER modal window. Wtf is that? This shite is endless. Every "update" brings more of it.

I rely on new tabs for navigating the site -- and the internet. Now I get friction with half of the clicks I make. Very frustrating, and not worth the hassle.

Can't even opt out by clicking 'I don't want to save 47%', the most condescending corporate messaging from a site that sees its community as a spreadsheet of plebs rather than associate with.

I think FFS really underestimated loyalty and the effect of a community just wanting to support the business through membership. Instead, they try to force the loyalty by raising the price and locking people into their existing payment level, as if that should make a member feel special. No, it makes people feel like hostages. Like FFS is a parasite extracting money year-on-year rather a community that we intentional and warmly give back to in a mutual, reciprocal relationship. Speaking for myself, of course, but presumably for some other people too.

Well, I write this rant about once a year, and so here it is for this year.

Loyalty? The majority of the whining and moaning is always done by non-members. No wonder so many of the old regulars have left.

      1. x.jim.x
        • 11 Years

So it's not the dodgy business practices that have lost them the 'old regulars', it's the complaining about it?

      2. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        9 months, 9 days ago

The old regulars have left, exactly. FFS has lost their loyalty. Many others have stopped paying. FFS has lost their loyalty too.

The majority of posters on the site are non-members, so you would expect the most complaints from them. Many of the complainers likely used to be loyal members, too.

I remember many old regulars "whining and moaning" complaining in the past, as well. To suggest they left because non-members were also whining and moaning about the site is weird.

Your best rank beats mine so don't let my thoughts sway you... but Sarr, Baleba and Guiu is too much of a sacrifice just to get in that 3rd premium surely.
Malen seems a minutes risk medium-long term, and we just don't know about Guiu (though fine as a 3rd bench option). I know nothing about Reinildo.
I was flitting between Sanchez and Sels, but the Colwill injury has pushed me to Sels.

I know, I know, with the new defcon rules and all. Probably better to go 3,5,2.

Having played the game for a few years now, I simply can't bring myself to not go 3, 4, 3.

Aesthetically, and being a visual person, I just can't.

    OCD perhaps.

Feel you. Been playing for 15 years and have always started with 343 but defcon makes me think 442 / 451 is the formation to start with.

Besides Watkins there aren’t strikers I really want.

I'm looking to Bowen > Gyro for gw2 though. Saka too expensive. SL is 6.5.

SO my 3, 4, 3 is justified. |Watkins is my third striker.

The 9m point for a striker is a good one to have within reach.
        Ekitike
        Isak
        Watkins
        Gyokeres
        Sesko
One or two of them should deliver from the off and breakaway from the 7.5s and below

dont discount the 7.5-5.5m forward bracket which may yet provide excellent value and enable more money in defence and midfield where defcon points exist primarily

How big are DC gonna be for defenders if they aren’t keeping clean sheets ? For example are Lacroix and Collins worth 5m from the start ?

I reckon so. I'm going with both those 2 and playing them every week. The fact that they're more likely to get DCs in tougher fixtures prompts me to change defensive strategy completely.

Absolutely not. He was close to being loaned to Girona but it fell through. He won’t play for Villa again.

Anyone else completely stuck on how they intend to set up their team? I'm spending too much time thinking about the bench boost....which of the following is better....

A....setting up the squad to play BB early

NlB...ignoribg BB. going 352. Bench of dubravka esteve and guiu and having a strong starting 11 than A....thanks

Bench Boost is absolute garbage, it’s an additional 10 point at best. A waste of time planning around it and shouldn’t shape your team planning.

No it isn’t, ask for managers average Bench Boost score and it’s nowhere near 20 points.

By pre afcon, value players has emerged, teams settled and Salah money in use to boost bench. With afcon fts you can do house cleaning.

I’ve just looked at the fixture ticker to see when looks best for my benched assets.

GW8 really appeals as Burnley and Sunderland have good fixtures and decent cheap options.

      Otherwise GW18 is an option.

I've found an earlyish week that isn't 1 nor 2, where almost all my 15 have nice fixtures. Didn't even plan it.

Cue seven injuries the week before.

I figure, since I didn't plan it, there won't be any spanners in the works. It's only when you plan carefully that it goes to sh-ts.

Thoughts on Bruno? Despite Man Utd's terrible season, he still finished 5th out of all midfielders.

As I recall, he started quite slowly, before getting steady returns in the 2nd half of the season

Then I hear his position might be changing in the new set up?

Worth getting Gakpo as a placeholder perhaps?

I’ve had him in my team quite a lot in pre season, but felt he had to go to free up funds ahead of City and Chelsea in GW4…

So I decided to just look at a bigger picture of 7 weeks to minimise required transfers.

I think United could be interesting with suddenly an array of proven FPL assets now in midfield. Wait and see for me to pick the best.

I think Bruno with DCs and quality players to finish the huge number of chances he creates, and win penalties for him, is nigh on essential.

Bruno will also assist and score from deep as well as further forward, especially with penalties...

Add the defensive contributions and he is a strong pick.

Possibly the standout one if you can afford to go there.

Depends how you attack the game…

Spurs Everton Chelsea could also warrant a triple up depending on chip strategy.

Chelsea especially look great irrespective of chips - Sanchez Palmer Pedro is feasible.

cheers, yeah just feel like they've had a decent pre-season, and pretty settled. should start season strong. dont mind their first 3 fixtures for eze, munoz is long term and the hope would be lacroix can get 4 points DC points in first 3. a goal or cs would be a bonus. struggling abit to get the right 3rd defender. might be worth going forest full back, not sure

Probaly my most different draft but here it is
    Sanchez
    VVD Williams Vdv
    Salah Palmer Wirtz Cunha Reindeer
    Watkins SL

Bench : Dubz Richards Guiu Esteve

Thinking SL as a set and forget and I really like the midfield , with Cunha playing with better players than he did at wolves.

The Wolves situation isn't that clear after Cunha's and Sarabia's departures. Hwang has taken penalties for them, but is unlikely to get many minutes. Arias has a 9/12 record. Strand Larsen has 3/3, but his most recent penalty goes all the way back to 2021.
