We bring you the key Fantasy Premier League (FPL) notes from two of Friday’s friendlies involving Chelsea and Brentford, including an exciting first outing for Estevao (£6.5m).

CHELSEA 2-0 BAYER LEVERKUSEN

  • Goals: Estevao, J Pedro
  • Assists: Palmer, Antwi

Debutant Estevao was the star of the show as Chelsea opened their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday.

The Brazilian tapped home after Cole Palmer’s (£10.5m) shot hit the woodwork and fell into his path.

He could easily have returned again, too, having racked up seven shots and three chances created.

“He is very young. He needs to play and for sure, he is going to help. He is a fantastic player.” – Enzo Maresca on Estevao

Above: Estevao’s shot map v Leverkusen on Friday, via Sofascore

Palmer, who regularly drifted into dangerous positions, went off at half-time, with Estevao taking over the No 10 role.

Substitute Joao Pedro (£7.5m) rounded it off late on, firing home in injury time.

Elsewhere, Jamie Gittens (£6.5m) was thrown on in the second half, but Christopher Nkunku (£6.0m) and Nicolas Jackson (£6.5m) were both left out of the matchday squad amid transfer speculation.

Meanwhile, Levi Colwill (£5.0m) is likely to miss the entirety of the 2025/26 season after sustaining a long-term injury.

Trevoh Chalobah (£5.0m) took his place at Stamford Bridge on Friday, but it sounds like the club are already in the market for a new centre-back.

“It is a priority for me, yes. Levi is a fantastic player; what we achieved last season was because of him. He played all games and I love him. We are going to miss him. We are trying to find different solutions. We will see [signing a defender].” – Enzo Maresca

Chelsea return to action on Sunday, as they host AC Milan, before turning their attention to Sunday’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace.

On Friday’s evidence, they look more than ready.

Chelsea XI: Jorgensen; Gusto (James 64), Acheampong (Anselmino 76), Chalobah (Tosin 45), Cucurella (Hato 45); Caicedo (Essugo 45), Santos (Rak-Sakyi 76); Estevao (Antwi 67), Palmer (Neto 45), George (64); Delap (J Pedro 64)

BRENTFORD 2-2 BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

  • Goals: Carvalho, Damsgaard
  • Assists: Collins

Caoimhin Kelleher (£4.5m) was a surprise absentee for Brentford on Friday, having picked up a knock in training.

Kevin Schade (£7.0m) also missed out for the second pre-season friendly in a row.

Both players will be monitored over the coming days.

As for the on-pitch action, Fabio Carvalho (£5.0m) and Mikkel Damsgaard (£6.0m) both got on the scoresheet for Keith Andrews’ side.

Carvalho, who has impressed in pre-season and attempted four shots here, volleyed home after a set-piece was headed across goal by Nathan Collins (£5.0m).

A couple of minutes later, a loose pass was intercepted by Damsgaard, who made no mistake.

Notably, Damsgaard’s set-piece deliveries were a real threat throughout at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Elsewhere, Keane Lewis-Potter (£5.0m) lined up out-of-position as a left winger. He put in some decent crosses and came close to scoring, only for his effort to deflect wide.

Igor Thiago (£6.0m), however, looked isolated for large periods and registered just one shot which was blocked by the opposition.

Brentford play again tomorrow against Gladbach at the training ground, with some of those who didn’t play on Friday expected to feature.

Brentford XI: Valdimarrson; Kayode (Hickey 82), van den Berg (Ajer 62), Collins, Henry (Roerslev 82); Jensen (Milambo 75), Yarmoliuk; Carvalho, Damsgaard, Lewis-Potter; Thiago (Henderson 75)

Areola is being replaced. I wouldn't get their replacement either. Until West Ham's defence improves as a whole

Kelleher and Perri both have minor knocks, afaik... So I've gone up to Sels for now

Gvardiol with reduced attacking threat feels risky without Rodri. I'd rather RAN (attacks), Gabriel (fully fit?) or Forest, as I see the plan is to set and forget, so fixtures might not matter too much

Moreno might not play for the club again. Prefer Gudmundsson. Guehi (when will you play him?) to Estève raises GK/P.M.Sarr upgrade funds

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      11 months, 17 days ago

If you have to ask, they usually aren't

But to answer the question itself: he's unlikely to be, imo. Considering how much Spurs were willing to pay for MGW *before* Maddison got injured, they're likely to get a CAM before the window closes, which is where Sarr has gotten returns in preseason... Then the competition at CM/CDM before buying Palhinha makes it hard to nail down a spot there either

All of this is with a new manager, who might not even know his best starting XI until competitive games start

so seeing they haven't signed a CAM yet and Maddy is injured, doesn't that mean he's more likely to play now?

Everyone seems to be ignoring City, it seems like a blind spot to me.

Haaland can smash it and may be better than Mo as Liverpools attacking points could be spread out more now.

RAN could be the highest scoring defender in the game.

Reijnders could make a mockery of his 5.5m price tag.

I get Pep roulettes is an isue but Is ignoring City completely smart?

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      11 months, 17 days ago

I've got RAN, but Rodri's recovery setback isn't ideal. Yet, just like Cucurella losing Colwill, I still like their fixtures and attacking threat to start with rather than without

Pep has had many great players in that "beside Fernandinho/Rodri" role, and usually found a way to rotate them (outside injury crises)

Haaland hasn't had more than 2 returns in Rodri's absence, even when City scored 3+. His involvement in City's goals dropped further when Pep got them back to winning from GW19 to the CWC. That's the attacking points being spread out:

Agre that Rodri's setback makes them less appealing but i think Reijnders can be an important player to the team and will tick over at 5.5m. When Rodri is back and playing a a 6 Reijnders becomes a better option if played as an 8.

RAN is more fun than VVD for me and i like having players who are entertaining to watch.

I take your point about Haaland i just have a feeling he is going to rip it up at the start of the season.

        1. Ze_Austin
          • 7 Years

The ticking over issue with Reijnders is... Anderson is riiiiiight there, and nailed. Malen carries similar risks but adds GA/90

I think the biggest issue with Pep roulette since the Mahrez/Sane/Sterling days has been nailed players from other teams outscoring them in FPL. Probably because the league has gotten so much richer as a whole

incredible how Haaland scored v Arsenal at the peak of his invincibility, Rodri then injured minutes later and Haaland fell off a cliff. If memory serves right we didn't connect the dots brilliantly (eg TC v Soton)

How do you change the appearance display on the FPL site to light mode? I've gone into user profile and then appearance and changed the display setting to light but it's still appearing dark.

The site is an absolute disaster. They haven't addressed the issues with it. The mobile site lags and judders when you scroll down through the player graphic section of my team but then scrolls normally when you get past that and onto the fixtures section underneath.

Yea the light and dark mode option does not work how you think it does. You, like another human being, would rightfully assume that it would change the majority of the page from dark to light, but no. All it changes is part of the horizontal banner at the top of the page from purple to white, lol, no other change aside from that. But I didn't try it for a few weeks so maybe they updated it?

They have at least fixed two of the major flaws within the past few days that were putting me off using the desktop site - namely the player navigation now use drop-down menus and there are now defensive stat columns within the player profile.

Hello, long time no see 🙂

I got huge doubts in Gyokeres and Haaland for sure, but like this?

    Darlow

    Frimpong / De Cyper / Ait-Nouri
    Rogers / Palmer / Gakpo / Kudus

    Gyokeres / Haaland / Pedro

    Dubravka / Wan-Bissaka / Van de Ven / Ramsey

Darlow has been replaced by Perri and Dubravka hasn't playee yet in pre-season, so you probably dont have a GK

      Rogers is injured

worth having a re-look at fixtures

for example, I don't think West Ham's are as bad as they first appear. It's really that Chelsea GW2 fixture that's off putting, but the rest are not to be sniffed at

    1. Ze_Austin
      • 7 Years
      11 months, 17 days ago

      I don't see it though

Chelsea, Forest, Palace, Everton and Arsenal aren't leaky defences

Spurs (Palhinha, Frank & fit CBs) and Brentford (Kelleher & fit backline) seem likely to improve defensively this season too

But they aren't the worst fixtures for West Ham's defence. My issue with that is the West Ham defence itself

      1. Ser Davos
        • 11 Years

well I'm thinking in terms of a Diouf and actually playing him beyond GW1. I think he's more than playable against the likes of Forest and Spurs and Everton (without getting too immersed in PS)

As for Bowen, the guy ended last season under Potter brilliantly and just strikes me as such a reliable talisman

He's been re-classified, which could be a death knoll

Oh yeah, Bowen is in the Cunha category for me. I'll get him because of his talent, not fixtures or team. FFScout calculated that he'd have only lost around 5 points as a forward last season, fwiw

Diouf is playable beyond GW1, yeah. Going for a rotating pair?

yeah, I was quite taken with how Havertz started given the bonus system

Am I right if I say we will all have 1 free transfer only in GW17 no matter how Manu transfers we made in GW16?

Eh? You will have 5 FTs in GW16. You will be given 1FT in 17 unless you don't make any transfers in 16

Who would be your best £13.5m midfield combo to fit the team below (possible WC GW6)?
I like the structure overall and def want to keep strikers as they are, but I’m not sure I like certainty of starts early on for Wirtz/Sarr.
What would be a better £13.5M combo for early fixtures?

    Kelleher
    Murillo / Tarkowski / Porro
    Salah / Palmer / Rogers / WIRTZ / P.M SARR
    Watkins / Bowen

Thanks if you’re able to suggest…

I've had Semenyo Mitoma locked in since I switched to 3-5-2 with Guiu

Thanks. Semenyo is a good shout and he (or Kluivert for pens) on my mind. £6.5m’s are tricky tho. Not a big fan of early fixtures but I will re-look. Cheers.

Looking through the PL kits for the season and Brentford have Hollywood Bets on the front as usual and also selling the same kits with Cazoo on the front? I presume Hollywood Bets is the sponsor for the front of the kits as usual?

    Morning,

What's peoples thoughts on Reijenders, surely hes in the team as that midfield needs him, right?

He's in my squad, and I know there'll be pep roulette, but with a good bench backup hes a good pick...

    Need thoughts

I'm staying right away from City at the moment. Who knows what the 11 will be for GW1?? Even Pep doesn't know yet. With Fodon, Rodri, Kovacic all missing Reinders might be forced to play a defensive role, rather that pushed more forward. It's a wait and see for me.

Of the three that could fill the Rodri role, have a hunch Pep will opt for Reindeer (over Gundo or Nico) so likely to be more defensive until Rodri is back. But the Palermo game will hopefully shed some light - I'm sticking with Reindeer for now but happy to jump for another 5.5 if he's going to be deeper for now.

Does anyone have a link to an article with a team which shows all pre-season goals and assists please?

There's normally one floating around somewhere that gets updated until the season starts.
