So many Manchester City players to choose from in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – and so few of them nailed!

The Cityzens go under the spotlight for our latest Fantasy team preview.

In this guide, we’ll attempt to pinpoint City’s best FPL picks for the upcoming season.

We’ll also try to predict their line-up for Gameweek 1 (which is easier said than done…), examine the strengths and weaknesses on the pitch, assess the opening fixtures, detail their top players for defensive contributions (DC) and more.

The data and graphics in this article come from either our Members Area or Statsbomb, with whom we are again partnering in 2025/26.

Fantasy managers can get access to the wealth of Statsbomb numbers, as well as the usual Opta stats, new defensive contribution (DC) points, recalculated points from last season, exclusive articles, transfer planner, tools and app, with a discounted Chief Scout membership today!

MAN CITY: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

NOTEWORTHY SIGNINGS

Rayan Cherki – Scout Report

City have bolstered their squad with the arrivals of Tijjani Reijnders (£5.5m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£6.0m), Rayan Cherki (£6.5m) and James Trafford (£5.0m) this summer.

Ait-Nouri is particularly interesting, as it pretty much confirms Pep Guardiola’s preference to return to conventional full-backs.

Reijnders offers an option arriving late into the box, while Cherki instantly adds creativity to City’s midfield.

There have been some notable changes in the coaching staff as well, with Pep Lijnders brought in to replace Juanma Lillo.

Lijnders, who worked under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, has a reputation for high-intensity pressing and attacking play.

RODRI IS BACK… JUST NOT QUITE YET

What is Rodri's defensive contribution points potential in FPL? 2

With Rodri (£6.5m) back from injury, you’d expect City’s defence and in-possession play to improve.

The Spaniard played just 72 minutes of Premier League football in 2024/25 before rupturing his ACL in Gameweek 5. His importance to City is captured in StatsBomb’s expected goals conceded (xGC) trendline:

The Ballon d’Or winner won’t return to full fitness until after September’s international break, but when he does, it’ll be a massive boost.

And what about Phil Foden (£8.0m)? He’s had some time away this summer and will be desperate to recapture his form ahead of next year’s FIFA World Cup.

MAN CITY: REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

DISAPPOINTING 2024/25 CAMPAIGN

FPL notes: Pep on Marmoush's "impact" + Haaland's fitness

City finished third in 2024/25, 13 points adrift of champions Liverpool.

Their nine losses in the Premier League was more than their previous two seasons combined.

They were also eliminated early from both the UEFA Champions League and League Cup, and their defeat in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace meant no silverware for the first time in ages.

“The season has been difficult, a tough year. We struggled a lot in the Champions League, we weren’t solid or consistent. It’s becoming more complicated, as seven, eight, or nine teams can qualify [for the Champions League].” – Pep Guardiola

The underlying numbers raise further concerns: third for expected goals (xG) and seventh for xGC.

There was a pretty sizeable gap between Arsenal and Liverpool defensively, too:

Finally started looking at my team. Narrowed down to the below - which option is best to complete my team? Thanks

    A. 3-4-3 - Rejinders Pedro King (mid fodder)
    B. 3-5-2 - 2 * 6.5m Mid & Guiu

    Kelleher Vald
    VDV Milenkovic Cucurella Konsa Dorgu
    Salah Palmer Gakpo XXX XXX
    Watkins Wood XXX

I would want a better 8th attacker with Reijnders than King unless you can play 4 at the back if needed

Depends which 6.5m mids I guess but looks good. Probably go dubravka over Vlad too because they actually rotate pretty nicely

That’s - good to know on the rotation.

Yes, a few options at 6.5m. Also like Minteh & Johnson depending on who Spurs sign

Guy walks into a pub, it’s his local and he’s sat in the same chair at the same table for 30 years, all the locals know him, anyway, he walks into the pub and he sees 3 guys and a dog sat at his table. He’s a bit pissed off that the barmaid hasn’t mentioned it to them that it’s his table and he’s about to go over and tell them what he thinks when he notices that they’re all playing cards and what’s more the dogs also playing. He watches in amazement for approximately 10 minutes and decided to walk over, his anger subsiding and says to one of the men “that’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in my life, a Dog playing Poker” the man replies “He’s not that good, every time he gets a good hand his tail starts wagging”

I suppose you should ask, what do you want for 5.0?

He still has a good passing range from deeper. He nearly assisted Barry with a pass from inside Everton's half, for example.

Obviously a 10 is what we wanted as FPL players, but it's not the end of KDH.

Tosin Adarabioyo is pretty much nailed from the start (Colwill, Badiashile, Fofana all out) so we essential get a £5.0m defender for £4.5m as he will be the same as Chalobah.

    Sels
    Williams, Collins, Tosin
    Palmer, Wirtz, Kudus, Minteh
    Haaland(c), Watkins, Ekitite.

    (Dubravka, LACROIX, Rodon, King)

I'm pretty happy with this team.

Love the Minteh pick. Could be.up against makeshift LB v Fulham and an untested Aznou v Everton.

Which new PL players from abroad and good FPL assets has done well straight away? Can only think of Haaland recently. They always seem to struggle and need time. Thinking of Gyokeres, Wirtz, Eketike, Sesko

      Payet at West Ham
      Aubameyang at Arsenal
      Salah at Liverpool
      D. Luiz at Villa
      Torres at Liverpool

Maybe right though, apart from Haaland maybe not too many recently

Decent shouts. I can think of a ton that flopped though. Remember the year Bony and Ricky van Wolfswinkel came I had such high hopes for both lol
