They’re the newly crowned world champions – so can Chelsea show that kind of title-winning form in the Premier League this season?

Our 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) team previews have now reached Enzo Maresca’s honeymooning side.

In this guide, we’ll be looking at the Blues’ best FPL picks for the upcoming season.

We’ll also attempt to predict their line-up for Gameweek 1, look at the good and bad on the pitch, assess the opening fixtures, detail their top players for defensive contributions (DC) and more!

CHELSEA: REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL

FEEL GOOD FACTOR

6 six things we learned about Chelsea from the Club World Cup 3

Buoyed by their FIFA Club World Cup victory, there is plenty to feel positive about at Stamford Bridge right now.

Chelsea ended the 2024/25 season with a run of eight wins in nine matches in all competitions, which culminated with them lifting the UEFA Conference League trophy.

They then put on a tactical masterclass to beat Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup.

It’s added real belief ahead of the new campaign, as they attempt to close the gap on Liverpool.

DEFENSIVE STRIDES

Chelsea’s defensive numbers really improved as last season wore on, as you can see from the rolling six-match graphic above.

In fact, in the last 12 Gameweeks, they were joint-top for fewest goals conceded (seven) and most clean sheets (seven).

They followed that up with four shut-outs in seven at the Club World Cup, even preventing PSG from scoring.

And while the xG showed a decline in the above picture, the Blues responded to that with 17 goals in seven matches in the States this summer.

NEW ARRIVALS + TOP TALENT

FPL transfer round-up 9

It’s been another summer of major investment.

It’s no guarantee of success, of course, but given their profiles, Joao Pedro (£7.5m), Jamie Gittens (£6.5m), Liam Delap (£6.5m) and Jorrel Hato (£5.0m) all feel like decent additions to Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Then there is existing talent such as Moises Caicedo (£5.5m) and Cole Palmer (£10.5m).

Caicedo is undoubtedly one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

As for Palmer, he recorded just one goal and three assists in his final 16 Premier League appearances of 2024/25, but he’s an exceptional player who showed his quality at the Club World Cup, ranking joint-first for attacking returns with five (three goals, two assists).

CHELSEA: REASONS TO BE FEARFUL

‘BIG SIX’ PROBLEM

Bournemouth v Chelsea team news: Palmer starts, Nkunku a sub

Chelsea won just three out of their 10 matches against the other teams that were part of last season’s top six (see below).

Even then, Liverpool had already been crowned champions and made six changes to their starting XI when Enzo Maresca’s team triumphed 3-1 in May.

Additionally, they suffered defeats in all five away matches, scoring a mere three goals.

Should Chelsea fail to improve this record, it’s difficult to see how they can progress.

Any Everton fans out there have an opinion on whether Jack Grealish gets a start/minutes/nothing this week?

Personally I'd go with Tark. But that's just because I aren't too keen on defensive double ups early on, until we have more info/can see who is performing well defensively

Murillo - better fixtures and I don’t think a Forest double up is necessarily a bad thing!

I don't think owning Sels has any effect on the points potential of Murillo or Tarkowski.

      I prefer the Tark.

Thoughts on this team? Any suggestions? Been stuck on it for too long:

    Sanchez

Who’s the better pick Murillo or Milkenovic ?

    1. Chris_l25

Arguably Murillo due to defcons, but I've gone Milenkovic for the goal threat

    2. FPL Elephant
      • 8 Years
      11 months, 8 days ago

Murillo is the sensible more secure option - defcon and bonus points magnet. Milenkovic has a higher ceiling as is more likely to get attacking points.

      Ultimately, I’ve got both!

Murillo got 12pts more for DefCons. So if you think Milk will score 2 goals more than Murillo then go for the big man. That would beat the 12pt difference.

    A. Ndiaye in 3-5-2
    B. JSL in 3-4-3

Team below - appreciate any thoughts, potentially slightly too heavy in defence.

Unless they play a back 3, which is possible, I'm guessing Burn will compete with Botman, and Schar will compete with Thiaw. I wouldn't go there just yet.

Think I'm good to go, easy to downgrade if I don't like Salah or Ekitike after first few. Although I wouldn't want to have Salah at so high price and most probably he will not replicate his last season, but the history with his first gameweek and the fact it's Bournemouth, I'm just too scared to go without him at the start.

    Good plan?

    Verbruggen-Dubravka
    RAN-N.Williams-Diouf (Dorgu, Esteve)
    Salah-Wirtz-Mitoma-Reijnders-Malen
    Haaland-Ekitike (Guiu)

Malen feels like a minutes risk but Dorgu’s a good bench option

Agreed, but any other up to 5.5m midfielders to think about? Feels like a bit meh to start with Anderson or KDH, feels that Malen upside is so much bigger.

    2. XX SMICER XX
      • 8 Years

Ekitike is a nice early shout, though a transfer waiting to happen if/when Isak comes in.

      Will Malen start?

      1. aguerodontblankonme
        • 10 Years

Yeah Malen could be trap, but I hope/think wishfully that he's going to have good season with a lot of more starts this year.

    3. Conners
      • 7 Years
      11 months, 8 days ago

You're relying on Liverpool winning by 3-4 every week by having 3 attackers.

Personally, I don't think their early fixtures warrant that.

Finally admitted that Haaland + Salah + Palmer is not the way to go. Just too thin and risky elsewhere.

This looks more balanced but a bit template. Had the likes of Fullkrug, Georginio, Tosin in my threemium draft, which I quite liked!

I’m not set on my forwards and could be swayed by Tark. Not entirely sold on Ndiaye either. What do you think?

    Sels
    Cucurella Milenkovic Diouf
    Salah Palmer Wirtz Ndiaye Reijnders
    Watkins Pedro

    Dubravka Konsa Guiu Esteve

    Cheers!

Everton were a top 4 defence under Moyes for both xGC and GC. The teams they play have good potential to get both DefCons and CSs combined for a megahaul. They also have no Europe, so they'll be fresher and better prepared than teams like Forest. I'm big on the Tark. I think he'll be the highest scoring defender.

Help me, folks? I'm really torn between Minteh and Rutter. I definitely want one of them.

Minteh will be up against Fulham's untested LB in Cuenca GW1. I quite fancy him to do well. Then there's the possibility of Everton being without Mykolenko in GW2. He could really start the season well.

Rutter is more versatile and could be OOP.

    1. Arse Craic

I think De Cuyper is enough Brighton coverage. Their fixtures aren't the best, IMO.

I think Minteh is the safer of the two.

He doesn't have as much competition on the right, whereas there's lots of competition in the central 10 role (Rutter, Hinshelwood, Gruda, O'Riley, etc).

    Reijnders - risky?

Are we failing to see the wood from trees when confirming Reijnders in our initial squads this season? There’s no doubting the overall quality he posses - and especially the attacking threat he’ll bring to City - but is he not likely to play deeper to cover the injured Rodri at least until the first international break?

I'm tempted but he's a wait and see for me. Probably until rodri is back and the team is more settled, or as settled as any pep team ever is.
