Hull City have made their first signing since their return to the Premier League.

Jack Butland has joined from Glasgow Rangers for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £3m.

The 33-year-old is, on paper, a replacement for Ivor Pandur, the starting goalkeeper in the Tigers’ promotion-winning campaign who has moved in the opposite direction to Rangers.

However, reports suggest Hull are very much keen on further bolstering their goalkeeping department, so the prospect of Butland starting the season as his new club’s number one looks questionable.

Butland was a regular for the Scottish giants in 2025/26, starting every single league and European match.

But after some initial success north of the border, earning the club’s Player of the Year award in his debut campaign of 2023/24, there has been some criticism of his more recent performances.

It’s been eight years since his last England cap, and Butland’s stock has fallen some way since he was on Fantasy managers’ radars at Stoke City midway through the last decade.

It’s been nine years, indeed, since he was last a first choice in the Premier League.

Time will tell if he’s warming the bench on Humberside come Gameweek 1.
