Brentford v Tottenham Hotspur brings the day’s Premier League action to a close.

TEAM NEWS

Both clubs stick with the same starting XIs they sent out in pre-season friendlies last Saturday.

The Bees give a Premier League bow to their club record signing, midfielder – and potential defensive contribution magnet – Mamadou Sangare.

Spurs, meanwhile, hand competitive debuts to Andrew Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Sandro Tonali.

Another summer signing, Matheus Fernandes, is on the bench.

Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Destiny Udogie, who, like Fernandes, have all had injury-affected summers, are also among the substitutes.

          The fact is that Carrick is a downgrade from Solskjær. Nothing more than a comfortable signing for the board. A manager who nods and smiles, and is simply grateful to be there.

        Only skill in this game is to pick players that are likely to score well. Of course it wont happen every time, that's just statistical variance. However its bad luck/random trash variance when every single player in your team underperforms.

        When this happens every single gw every single season its clear that you're just being fd by random bad luck over and over

            I quit for 2 years because this game is garbage. I looked at the stats of my teams from before I quit and it was clear every single one of my picks was good, just random variance fd me over all the time.

            It shouldn't be possible statistically to keep having as bad luck as I am, but apparently it is. Every single season is the same. Pick good players -> underperform. Random red cards, penalty misses (I had 8 last season) etc. Joke game.

              The law of Truly Large Numbers together with the pigeonhole principal dictates that with a large enough sample size, even highly improbable streaks of bad luck are almost guaranteed to affect at least one player. And that player, good sir, is you.

                Im a poker player so Im very aware of this. Most people arent. There is no way in hell you can play enough seasons of FPL where luck doesnt vastly outweigh skill/variance. The "elite 64" are 100% top luckers, They are skilled but for every single 1 of them there are 100+ players with the same amount of skill who are simply not as lucky.

                I think thats part of why I keep playing even as im in the bottom 0.0001 percentile of luck. I hate this game but I have to keep playing to educate people about variance.
