Player Rankings Changes
From this week on, I’m changing the way in which the player ranking tables in the right-hand menu work. A number of you have requested player recommendations over a longer period of time, rather than weekly scout picks. To cater for this requirement, the player rankings will now be based on the next five matches, the same five that are listed in the forthcoming fixtures table in the same menu.
In a nutshell then, the rankings will be updated regularly, probably on a daily basis, and player selections will be based on the fixtures over the next five gameweeks. In this way you can see my opinion on players that should be considered over a longer period of time.
As the rankings undergo significant updated, players move up and down the tables or enter the rankings for the first time, I’ll endevour to make a post to explain the move or new entry.
The rankings for the next five gameweeks have been updated tonight. I’ll be revisiting these as more team news comes in tomorrow and let you know if there are any major changes.
Scout Picks will continue as before - they’ll reflect the week’s fixtures and will be updated tomorrow as usual.

Fantastic feature once again Mark. Although it might be too little too late for me as my private league leader is 40-odd points in front of me. Morale has been low.
Speaking of morale, how about writing a motivation article during the off season? Throughout the course of a season, I found that we have to endure tremendous ups and downs with our fantasy teams. Staying motivated is key, but I find myself feeling disillusioned to the point of quitting sometimes. Any motivation secrets to share Mark?
One more thing. From the (excellent) way you’re chopping and changing this site, I assume you’re pretty IT savvy. For the right-hand menu, how about changing the mouse cursor to a pointing hand once we mouseover the headings? This gives the impression that the headings are “clickable”. A slight tweak in the CSS should do the trick

Motivational secrets eh? I know exactly what you mean though. If you care about your fantasy team, one oversight can really hurt to the point of making want to give up on your side. In the past I’ve found the wildcard in the FPL to be a very helpful device here. I tend to save this so I can use it to repair any damage caused by a bad decision or oversight and at the same time reinvigorate my interest in a team I may have broken.
I will give the subject some thought thought though. Would make a decent article to consider in the Summer.
As for the pointers in the right-hand menu. Good idea. I had the code but for some reason didn’t implement it.

Hi, Excellentx Mark. We’ve been looking for it for a while. Most of us usually plan for 4-5 gameweeks. Thanx again.

I’m not sure If I like it. Great work though, thx again for all the time you spend on this.
I think it’s going less effective than before. To much risk when you make rankings for such a long time in advance.
I’d liked it more how it was before.

I know what you mean Inshaman - we’ll have to see how it goes. These aren’t a one off prediction of potential over the next five games - I will look to review them on a daily basis. So for example, Pienaar’s recall last night lifted him in my rankings just before I published them. So while they are longer term selections, the rankings should shift according to short-term form, injuries, suspensions etc on an almost daily basis.
As another example, there’s no Anelka and Drogba in the rankings right now as it’s too difficult to predict Grant’s intentions with either so there’s a risk in selecting either over the next five games. As soon as there are clues (probably after Sunday), one or both are likely to enter the rankings.
Hopefully then, the tables will always reflect form, fixtures, team selection etc. In that way, it shouldn’t be too risky on my part - they should always be a snapshot of fantasy potential for each position at that current time over the next five gameweeks. The risk is all yours depending on if you take any advice from them and when you choose to do so

Damon, 40 point lead isnt as much as you think. You’d be surprised at how quickly you can catch the leader. Good captain choice, defender with a clean sheet and bonus …. it all adds up !
Keep the faith

Agree with Daz.. 40 is nothing .. 2 GW is enough to go over them
and stay away from the penalties
