Weekend Team News
Lampard and Terry doubts for Chelsea. The threat of a rest on the bench looms over our precious Ronaldo. Santa Cruz crocked by a teammate in midweek. These are uncertain times for fantasy football managers. Brace yourselves for another weekend of sweaty palms - click here for your early weekend team news.
As always, I’ll update this as more information floods in throughout Friday, so keep ‘em peeled.

Ryan Nelsen is correct spelling

is it likely that terry and/or lamps will miss the game on sunday against boro? FUCK
[Reply]
aaargh! there’s injury doubts over 80% of my team this week. Oh well, at least Guthrie and Boyce are fit, so there’s 4 points in the bag.
[Reply]
dont b so certain. boyce will prob concede 2 or more in which case its only 3 points! haha
ive got terry and lamps so im stressing!!!
[Reply]
I wouldn’t worry jim I’ve a gut feeling both will still play at the wknd. Is it just me or is every EPL manager taking a leaf out of Rafa’s ‘psychological pre-game mind tricks’ book? Fergie is at it, now Grant. Seriously it’s a waterstones best seller!
[Reply]
The Sky Sports ticker claims Hreidarsson is doubtful, was thinking of putting him in too..
Jones, hasn’t scored in 2008 - is he worth ditching for Defoe at a 4 point hit? Both Pompey and Sunderland have decent fixtures but I just know Jones will come good if I get rid.
I guess it’s getting to the stage where it’s best to flood your team with players who have a favourable run-in - Pompey, Chelsea, Villa and Tottenham are looking sweeet.

My defence is going to take a battering if Woodgate and Hreidarsson are out. Oh well, serves me right for not being too impatient to wait until Friday to make my changes.

Reply by Mark on March 28, 2008 1:20 pm:
Hreidarsson is a doubt with a knee injury. Team news has been updated accordingly.
Defoe will be going for it with a week off next weekend but like you say, Jones is one of those players who can pull a big week out of the bag. I’ve an inkling for him against West Ham.
[Reply]
Mark, you have Santa as probable but most other places say doubtful; any particular reason you think he’ll make it?
[Reply]
Reply by puffinboy on March 28, 2008 11:54 am:
And talking of possible/probables, would anyone like to hazard a guess as to who’s more likely to play out of Lampard and Ronaldo? Maybe I should just stick with Hangeland as my captain
[Reply]
Reply by Mark on March 28, 2008 1:16 pm:
All the evidence suggests that the injury is minor. There’s a story here with reassurance Santa himself - although he’s bound to say he’s fine - he probably fancies himself against the Reading defence fit or not.

shit, hreidarsson also injured. damn!!!
why do u say defoe having a break the following weekend??? the game against west ham in GW33 is happening aint it? on tueday 8th april, still part of GW33!
[Reply]
how serious is hreidarsson injury? is he likely to play? and who would replace him?
THANKS!!
[Reply]
Reply by Guy Incognito on March 28, 2008 11:11 pm:
Currently no news about Hreidarsson on Sky Sports team news, and you know what they say about no news. (Uh, good news apparently).
As for who would replace him if he were injured… possibly Tony Adams? Don’t think they they have any other defenders available.
[Reply]
Heres some more injury news.
Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been ruled out of the rest of the season with a broken metatarsal.(BBC Sports)
I might get a game in my team at this rate with all the injuries and rest/rotation worry and I am only 97pence
with 0 assists, 0 goals, 0 points and 0 minutes played.

Really could do with some help with my team, got plans but can’t decide:
1.Hart
2.Rio Ferdinand
3.Carvalho
4.Lescott
5.Piennar
6.Ronaldo
7.Gerrard
8.Cesc
9.Ashley young
10.Berbatov
11.Adeybayor
12.Cudicini
13.Taylor (Wigan)
14.Bikey
15. Waghorn
shall i get rid of adeybayor for defoe? then thinking of a decent midfielder, maybe J cole, other suggestings would be good. To afford J Cole would have to dump Carvalho for Shorey & Cudicini for Gordon.
Any advice would be great, cheers Marc.

Depends if your playing catch up Marc C then go for the gamble. Is J. Cole worth a 8 point hit after you have swapped Adebayyyyyou for Defoe, I don’t think he will get the return. Pienaar is a doubt anyway, so you could use the change from the Defoe transfer and get Huddlestone or Kranjac or look around for another 6mil midfielder who will def play. Or you can tell me to shove this advice and go for the speedboat instead.
[Reply]
adebayor for defoe!!!!!! do it
[Reply]
Reply by CK on March 28, 2008 2:54 pm:
Adebayor out is a smart move. I think his scoring spree is over for this season and Defoe has a much better run of fixtures!
[Reply]
Anyone else think Hart’s time is up? Can’t see too many clean sheets on the horizon for City.
Tottenham’s defence is shaky at the best of times but with decent fixtures Robinson could be a potential bargain at 4.5…
[Reply]
Reply by Leighton on March 28, 2008 4:16 pm:
I have Hart and I can’t see a cleansheet for Man City against either Birmingham or Chelsea the following week. I’m glad that I’ve got David James for this week (v Wigan) but then the following week Pompey play West Ham which has not got a cleansheet written all over it.
This just illustrates the difficulties this week if you are looking for a good value buy for the next two or three games. Manchester United and Chelsea look solid for the next two games, but other teams seem to have a good fixture this week and something less than straightforward the following week.

After last week’s brainstorm I know have three Villa players in my team - Martin Laursen, Zat Knight and Ashley Young.
My juggling act for this week is to off-load at least two of them despite the game with Bolton next week.
The two I fancied getting in - Hreidarsson and Santa Cruz are now injury doubts. Help!

Assuming you have little excess funds, I would say:
Young out Defoe in
Knight out Nosworthy in
I’d hang on to Laursen, surely due a goal!

What’s happened to Lamps?? He used to be an indestructible fat robot, now he’s missing games because of a few sniffles…
With slight doubts surrounding him, Ron, Cruz and Ade I’ve had to take a 4pt hit and get Berby - but should I captain him or leave it with Ronnie? Or try a gamble on Tevez? Questions, questions…

Lamps will play. Surely no sickness can keep someone out for almost a week. I’ve got a feeling he will do very well against boro. Berbs is my choice for Cap’n too.
[Reply]
Will J.Cole definately start, and is he a good captain choice? If not how about Torres, Gerrard, Fabregas, Defoe or Bentley?
[Reply]
Reply by Leighton on March 28, 2008 4:58 pm:
Ollie,
With doubts hanging over Lampard’s fitness and Chelsea clearly the team who are threatening Manchester United, it looks a good shout that he will start. Not a bad captain choice then…
I am still adamant about Spurs and Berbatov, but given the list you have mentioned Defoe could easily score two goals against Wigan (who are less than secure away from home) and pick up all three bonus points.
Torres also has very good claims for the captain’s armband - his record of 12 goals in 16 home games speaks for itself. He has also hit the target in his last 5 home games. Everton have struggled of late and Cahill’s absence will not help their cause.
Out of the names you have mentioned I would go with Defoe.

Defoe or Berbatov for captain?

Just a bit of info before Corrie comes on which may interest managers wondering whether to sell Adebayor
With Robin van Persie fit again and Nicolas Bendtner chomping at the bit to start, Wenger has hinted Adebayor could be rested for this weekend’s clash against struggling Bolton.(Sky Sports website)

RE: Yer Dad. Good find that. Was contenplating getting rid of Tevez for Defoe but after this little Jem of news it will most likely be Adebayor. The chance of of him doing something special against Bolton was the only reason he was staying in. Cheers

CK…
Tough call for captain this week.
I’m torn between Defoe, berbatov and
the ‘risky ronnie’. Can anyone sway me?
Gotta love the fact that all the ‘predictables’ ie Ronnie EVERY week
are now questioning their choice.

Yip tis a tough one mate. I have a slight edge for Berbatov at the moment. I think he’ll score and Ferguson has already hinted today that he will rest players due to Roma match. Defoe is hot at the mo too but Berbatov is ahead by a nose for me.
Will log on again later to see what Mark has to say in his picks!

Ferguson will rest players but that will most likely consist of Hargreaves coming in for Carrick and Scholes/Anderson out for Tevez and Nani in for Giggs. Vila are too good against the big boys to consider resting the likes of Ronaldo. Ronaldo will be my captai as I’m sure he’ll start.

Disagree. I don’t think he’ll play 90 mins. Lucky to get 45, but may start. Just my opinion… so I’m not making him Capt. Time will tell if I’m right or if I’m talking through hairy backside!

Berbatov. Rooney has the chance of being rested, plus I don’t see many goals in that game (maybe even a 0-0… fingers crossed). Keane is good, but doesn’t always get to play the full 90mins, and with Bent’s excellent sub appearance the other day there’s always a chance Keane could sit out (although I still think he’ll start). I can see 2 goals from Berbs on Sunday
What say you in my Murphy vs Noble decision?

Hey, for whatever reason i still see the old image of scout picks at the top right…… Can anybody please mention updated scout picks (whole team) in this thread. Thanks in advance
[Reply]
After much indecision my team for this week, incorporating the now-traditional 4 point hit (Martin Laursen transferred out for Nosworthy & Defoe in for Ashley Young) is:
James
Carvalho/Nosworthy/Brown
Cole/Huddlestone/Ronaldo/Flamini
Defoe/Torres/Berbatov (c)
Subs: Hart/P. Neville/Ireland/Knight
Sunderland have become gritty in the defensive stakes recently and they could unsettle the Hammers.
Mark. Thanks for the picks - there’s not too many surprises in there. You are very persistent with Bullard - that Derby v Fulham game could go either way but I fancy a slender home win.
I assume that you think Reading may get a result at home to Blackburn with Shorey and Hunt in - I agree that there may be a few goals but I do think Blackburn can sneak a 2-1 win.
[Reply]
Just for Yer Dad’s benefit her are some more wallet-busting or should I say wallet-emptying tips for this weekend:
Birmingham to draw with Man City (23/10)
Blackburn to beat Reading by 1 goal (7/2)
Torres to score at any time in the game v Everton (6-5)
Drogba to score 1st goal v Middlesborough (7-2)
Just out of interest, Wes Brown is 20-1 to repeat his feat of last week.
I’m now going off for a rest as my brain is hurting..

I like the birmingham/city price and I will have a couple of shillings out of yer mum’s purse for that one.
I have gone with Ronaldo after clicking on/off Defoe then Rooney and even gave the armband to Fabregas at one point as I sure he is due a blinder and I will keep him for one more game. I think the Nani situation swayed it for me but Fergie did say he is keeping 1 eye not 2 on the Roma game but what does he mean??

Morning all, I’m just looking to make my change for the week a its Carragher for the chop. I’m thinking long term until the end of the season and only have the cash from Carragher available. Spurs fixtures look favorable and Chimbonda seems to be getting a few assists of late yet Mark doesn’t have him in the picks for the next 5 fixtures instead going for Hutton. I know Chimbonda has been grumbling lately but that doesn’t seem to have stopped him playing and performing. Any thoughts on his place in the Spurs team and my back 3?
Cheers
[Reply]
i reckon lamps will start. hope so!!
[Reply]
Ive taken the gamble and gone with woodgate, if he was fit enough for the england bench he’ll be ok to play i think. hes much more likely to get bonus points than the rest of the back line aswel, and they look good for a clean sheet this gw.
Still undecided about captain though, the uncertainty about nani’s fitness is making ronaldo tempting, even though im worried about resting (as is everyone!)…

Hidey ho campers, do any of you have an opinions on Jones for sunderland this week, or maybe even a bit of Van persie magic?
I need to gamble as the lack of Ronif*ckinhateyoualdo in my team due to my stubborness to bring him in has crippled me. What are you views?
