Sidwell Doubt For Season Kick-Off

by Mark on August 2

Steve Sidwell is doubtful for Aston Villa’s season opener against Man City in a fortnight. The midfielder missed today’s friendly with his former club Reading after sustaining a calf injury in training.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill later revealed that Sidwell “might be out for a couple of weeks”. That will see him miss the UEFA Cup tie with FH Hafnarfjardar and make him a major doubt for the first Premiership game on Sunday August 17.

Villa really need to sign some players and fast – they are down to the bare bones at the moment. Come to think of it, I work a couple of miles from Villa Park – I might get a game if I take my boots with me!

Lol MON will sign players, but i do get the feeling it may be after the season has started… but with Laursen, Davies getting close to match fitness, being linked to Shorey plus with Friedel in goal we could be only a decent right back away from a solid defence….as it is i’m going for the week 5ish wildcard strategy so at least i can assess any new signings up till then…

Does this make Reo-Coker better value at 5.0?

Its hard to tell at the min, NRC has been played on the right recently due to lack of options, plus with Barry still kicking up a fuss and even if he stays he’ll be covering left back i think you can be safe that he’ll play most games, but as a fantasy punt he isn’t great, lots of yellow cards and possibilities of red cards…

Mind it depends if MON gives him a more forward role whilst putting Petrov in the holding role…

For 5mill i’d be looking at Geovanni @ Hull or maybe Muamba @ Bolton…see how the last friendlies go and take it from there…
