Nasri Doubt For Fulham Clash?

Samir Nasri has withdrawn from the French squad for their international with Sweden on Wednesday with a thigh injury.

Nasri was the major bright spark in Arsenal’s somewhat lazy 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday and has since attracted a lot of interest from fantasy managers.

Having reportedly suffered from the complaint for several weeks, it is hoped that his absence from the Sweden game is just a precaution on Arsenal’s part. However, until we here otherwise, Nasri must be classified as a doubt for the trip to Fulham this weekend.

  1. Thats nice . So who do i replace him with now . Modric ? I have young . Lampard . Arteta . Nashri in my mid . What do you guys think

    [Reply]

  2. i already used my free transfer on getting him in. just have to hope he is fit for fulham game. with him and fab out, it may not be an easy ride for arsenal.

I never use my free transfer until the end of the week.

Had too many players injured either at international duty or on the training ground!!!

Some people were trying to beat the price rise, me thinks.

I considered trading in Santa early for the above reason, but decided a 0.1-0.2 rise was a fair price to pay to be sure he’ll be fit by the weekend.

Nobody ever won the FPL game with such a risk-averse mind-set. But you are much less likely to do poorly, so that’s something….

Is Roberts a good choice??(Can he be stater with Santa Cruz)

  6. Hey guys . Who do you guys think would be a good replacement for nashri in game week 2 . I have young lampard arteta and nashri in my mid . And this this a good midfield to have in this game week

    [Reply]

  7. I guarantee Nasri will play for Arsenal on the weekend. Wenger never likes his players going off to play for the national squad during the season especially when he’s struggling for midfielders. Don’t stress cause Nasri will play, it’s just a ploy by Wenger so he doesn’t risk Nasri getting injured in the France game.

  8. Who thinks they know the 2 centre backs for Aston Villa? Villa leak too many goals O’Neil knows this.

I think Cuellar is a certainty (he is quality)That means could Laursen be dropped? Having watched Villa a number of times I do not rate Laursen defensively, I think Davis has potential. Could the unthinkable happen and Lausen get dropped?

    Views welcome

    [Reply]

    Eric,

Laursen is Villa captain this season, so I can’t see him being dropped in favour of Cuellar. Davis will make way.

  11. djourou - ive just got him in for some profit, though im unsure if he will start. Any ideas?

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Djorou- not sure. Toure is fit now, so he could potentially slot in with Gallas instead. However the midfield is still an injury raven mess, so it’s not an impossibility that Toure could be moved into centre mid (in much the same way Eboue was last week). Also Senderos isn’t far away from fitness (Senderos has traditionally been ahead of Djorou in the pecking order).

Basically he’s by no means guaranteed to start next game, and his long-term role is unknown (though with everyone fit I doubt he will get a look in). So bleak I’m afraid mate.

    [Reply]

  12. Think you need to add ‘Inj’ to your scout picks list in that case - he’s currently showing as fit to play.

    [Reply]

  13. well josh,

if i didn’t make the transfer early on, i wouldn’t have been able to afford him in the first place as the 0.1 increase would be too much for me. That comes with reading these forums and being so ‘into it’. But, if he is injured nothing one can do about that. If he aint and plays, then i’ve got him before the price jump.

    Don’t knock experience lad.

  14. Captain for Gameweek 2?

I usually go for a midfielder playing at home but I’m thinking Ashley Young, as he’s playing against Stoke, and no international distractions.

    [Reply]

  15. i’m fairly certain he’ll play as some have stated before. it’s wenger after all. i wouldn’t be surprised though if they pulled him off if they’re way ahead around 60 min.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I would be very surprised if Wenger pulled him off. I know he scored a goal in gameweek 1, but I’m pretty sure the Arsenal policy is to give hand-jobs after hat-tricks only.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I think official league policy is hand shandy for a brace (and a penalty save), BJ for a hat-trick. Well, it is at Man U anyway.

  16. For me it’s out of A.Young or Lampard away to Wigan. Lampard looked sharp last game but I just have that feeling that Young could take that next step up to superstardom any minute and if he does, I can’t think of anyone else better to start with then against Stoke. Very tough call.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

i’m still stuck between barry or young for this game week. picked barry since he tends to score more than young, but i’m fairly certain young will have a few assists if not a goal of his own.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Get Young. I thought it was significant this week that he got 2 bous points and Barry got none.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

haha, i was completely surprised at that as well.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

For me it was a toss up between Bentley or Young, but I reckon Sunderland are a bit more resilient than Stoke.

Still though… Spurs at home… fancy them to really ignite.

    Not so sure any more.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I’m not so sure on everyone’s predictions that Villa will walk all over Stoke. The Brittania Stadium is a horrible place to go & most teams won’t enjoy it, i expect it to be a tight match, especially with Stoke’s new signings (Davies & Faye at the back), home advantage & getting over 1st game jitters.

Is no-one backing Liverpool? Spurs should’ve got at least 3 against a suspect Boro defence last week - i’m thinking Gerrard for captain this week.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I agree that Stoke is NOT easy, by any means.
I’m risking Pedersen as my captain. Daring, isn’t it?
I thought about getting Torres in, but needed my transfer for elsewhere. You never know with Liverpool. They look shocking, but then they’ll produce a 4-0 from nowhere, and always at Anfield.

    [Reply]

  17. I don’t know who to transfer, or if I should make a transfer?
    Reina Schwarzer
    Clichy Carvalho Cahill Figueroa Young
    Young Bentley M.Petrov Taylor Noble
    Torres Ashton Bent

    2.5 in bank?

    Could change:
    Bentley for Fabregas
    Taylor/Petrov for Arteta
    Bent for Agbonlahor

    Suggestions please

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

If it was me I wouldnt transfer anyone out. That’s a good team given this weeks fixtures. No need to use transfer just for sake of it mate

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Petrov into Arteta, or Carvalho into Bosingwa looks fine to me.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I fancy Faubert as a better West Ham midfield option than Noble this season. He picked up an assist against Wigan, took a lot of the set pieces and looked creative. Both are currently valued at 5.5m.

    [Reply]

  18. Going for Ashley Young as captain this week, I can’t see Chelsea having it too easy away to Wigan and regardless of the Villa Stoke score Young is always involved in the points so is worth being the captain this week

    [Reply]

  19. Why hasn’t everybody got Darren Bent in their team? a cheap as chips (7.5m in FPL), tremendous pre-season, international striker and guaranteed starter for team packed with creative midfield talent. Surely he’s going play every week and get 15-20 goals this season.
    Am I missing something??

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

sure they can, once the team gels he’s got modric and bentley and to supply him.

    [Reply]

  22. i’ve got bent as captain this week. bit of a gamble as i could go for young but i fancy spurs to score plenty in their home games

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

hmm, thought about Bent too. Between him, Bentley (who I’m currently leaning too), Lampard, Adebayor, and Ashley Young… tough one

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

i’m torn really. sure the spurs score a lot at home, but that was with berbatov making keane look good last season. i’m not sure if the past success can be repeated…maybe i’m just a bit too pessimistic.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

i can’t decide between Bentley, Young or Lamps. I’m thinking Lamps tho. If West Ham can stick 2 past Wigan, I can see Chelski getting 2 even though they are away from home. I wouldn’t go for Bent even if i had him as he hasn’t proved he can come up with the goods yet. Sam, i can’t bring myself to captain Adebayor after last week. Surely Fulham away have got to be stiffer oposition than the baggies at home?

    [Reply]

  23. ive got bentley too so i think its between the 2 of them. ive just got a gut feeling about bent this week

    [Reply]

    Bentley or Young for me.
Think I will go for young as it pains me to be rooting for the spuds.

  24. no one fancy torres……home game against a dodgy boro defence?

    [Reply]

  25. i do like a blonde, but he’s not in my team unfortunatley

on another note, i have Turnball as my sub which i thought was rather shrewd until i saw Jones on the teamsheet last Saturday (doh!).

wondering if any Boro fans have some colour on whether Jonesy is now #1 or whether they think Turnball may well get his shot (if say, Jones has a howler agaisnt the ‘pool)? i really dont want to waste a transfer on the sub gk but if i do get round to it then it would be even worse to have to sub turnball back in…

    [Reply]

  26. the way liverpool have been playing, i can see boro winning that game. i would wait a week and then get rid of turnbull, at least then you will see if jones really is 1st choice or if southgate will rotate them like in pre-season. if they are rotated, then it is probably pointless having either one of them, and if they aren’t, then you can bring in jones

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

can see them being rotated which is a shame because 4mln for a Boro keeper is a steal.

i’ve noticed that pretty much my entire team is playing away this week, woopeydoo, so having a dilemma on whom to bench.

    downing, taylor or ashton?

Downing: i benching him last year vs liverpool away and he scored 2 goals and got MoM or similar… gutted i was so dont really want to do that again.
Ashton: Brace in first game (isnt that 7 goals in 9?) so on form and City have wask defence now.
Taylor: He is on the bench at the moment as he didnt do anything against Stoke and I cant see Bolton scoring more than one at newcastle.

    Anyone have a different take?

    [Reply]

    bench Taylor, or Downing.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

    Hurrah!

How about swapping Downing for Geovanni or Guthrie, and one of your cheap strikers for Alves. Makes your team look a lot better balanced. I’d also consider dropping Laursen for either L Young or Cahill and upgrading your keeper.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I also like the Laursen for L. Young move to free up some more cash to upgrade one of the strikers. Personally, I’m not on the Geovanni bandwagon, so I wouldn’t adjust that given what you’ve got. Don’t get me wrong - it’s great at that price to get someone with regular minutes and at least occasional upside, but I wouldn’t move out someone like Downing who is a much more solid play. There’s nothing wrong with having 5 solid in the middle, so I’d hang tight with this and see how it plays out (if it were me).

Congrats WW (Wildcard Wayne) on getting things sorted out. Looks like you’re on your way! I know some were frustrated by it, but I got a good chuckle….

and who should i make my captain

    [Reply]

Why, oh why would you want to use your wildcard now Johann? Your team looks absolutely fine for now! Who would you be getting in? You’d probably end up getting in mostly the same players..

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

I agree with old gregg here. your team looks fine (it’s very similar to mine!). It is traditional to start with 11 players, but as long as your 11th player isn’t a hull defender you should be coolio. Personally I am not a fan of rvp - and given that you have nasri maybe alves or santa?

  35. Thinking of bringing in Bosingwa for either Laursen or jakielka..

Good idea..? and who do i get rid of..?

    [Reply]

  36. WHY OH WHY!

Every man and his dog knows England have a great midfield and with Steven Gerrard they have the world’s best. So why does every england manager play them and him out of position?

England should either set up like Chelsea do the old 4-3-2-1 formation Hardgreaves centre, Barry Left Lampard right, Gerrard and Cole given free range Rooney up front or a 4-2-3-1 formation with Hardgreaves and Barry sitting infront protecting the back 4 with Gerrard Lampard and Cole bombing on to support Rooney.

Why do we not play to our strengths? Midfield Midfield Midfield!

Gerrard playing on the left, opposition allowed to run at our back 4 criminal!

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Er, cos i think it’s been proven that Rooney can’t play up top on his own! Maybe Crouch, Heskey or Ashton could, but then you’d be leaving out Rooney, Owen, Beckham, Defoe… Oh how the red-tops would lay into THAT team.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

England use every teams star man and are a team of individuals and not a collective. England should play the villa mid + forwards as they know how to play together and work for each other.

    James
    Brown Ferdinand Terry Cole
    Bentley Gerrard Barry Young
    Agbonlahor Rooney

Subs: Green Richards Shorey Hargreaves Cole Downing Defoe Crouch

This is a far more balanced team.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Screw it, why not throw in the majority of the Villa team! Let’s have Shorey at LB, Davies at CB, L Young at RB, 3 in the middle with Barry, Sidwell & Reo-Coker and A Young & Agbonlahor on the wings - they’ve all been in the Eng squad at least once!

All you’d need is a GK (James used to play for Villa), a CB Eng captain and a Carew replacement = Crouch! (who used to play for Villa) Can’t be much worse than the current team…

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

would be much better, i would think

the manager is under a lot of pressure from the fa and kit sponsers to pick the ’star’ names

wasnt it sir alf ramsey (our only world cup winning manager) who said that you pick the best XI, not the best XI players?

    [Reply]

  37. Cos every man and his dog knows Gerrard and Lampard can’t play in the same bloody team or they both do shite.

    [Reply]

  38. Slvestre just signed for arsenal….. yikes. may that mean the unproductive Clichy gets rotated? :(

I’d think Silvestre is mainly there for cover. I hope so, anyway.

    Mutant-faced (ex)Scum that he is.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

    I hope so too…

He shouldn’t be ahead of Gallas, Toure, Djourou, Senderos, Clichy or even Song (maybe Traore, who I think Wenger now sees as a left sided attacker).

I’m all for youth and inexperience! No new midfielders, I want to see Denilson make that role his own.

    [Reply]

  39. I think you will find that team has never played with those players!

Gerrard and Lampard can play together, but they need to be relieved of their defensive duties!

Whan they have played well for their clubs they have always played alongside defensive midfielders.

5 in field would be able to keep the ball and move and support Rooney upfront. Hardgreives is a great protector and althlete very quick. barry is good on the left

    James
    Richards Terry Ferdinand Cole
    Hargreaves Barry
    Lampard
    Cole Gerrard
    Rooney

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

how narrow is that team? wheres the width

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Where does Gerrard like to play? Where is Lampard’s best position? I think you’ll find the answer to both those is the same, and when one of them is displaced (normally Gerrard) you get a substandard performance from both.

  40. Everybody what about Van Persie? Is he likely to start this week?

    Any suggestion is great!! THX!

    [Reply]

  45. Peter,

I have Carvalho but I can see the merits of Terry - he’s more of goal-scoring threat and less vulnerable to rotation in the squad, but he’s a wee bit more expensive.

The truth of the matter is when Carvalho played 90 minutes for Chelsea last season they never lost and he did pick up some valuable bonus points on the way. He and Terry are well-protected by the midfield so you could argue that bonus points may be more sparing for both this season, but who knows with the infamous bonus point panel??.

    [Reply]

  46. Gentlemen,

Please some advice was doing some tinkering with lineup, heres what i have

    Cech (Schwarzer)
    L. Young Bosingwa Cahill (Meite, Wheater)
Arteta, Bentley, Lampard, A Young, Geovanni
    Santa Cruz, Tevez, Ashton

Was thinking of going with G Pedersen instead of Bentley and trying out Bent or Downing instead of Bentley. Ttham worries me.

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Advice: Calm down and realise that only one game has been played so far. Why is Bentley suddenly such an issue?

You have Meite in your team (albeit a sub) for goodness sake. That’s an issue I’d deal with first. Get another cheap defender that you rotate and hopefully pick up some clean sheets at home… Figeuero being a common shout. The rest of your team is fine (depending on how Ashton’s injury is). Although I’d wait till after the Chelsea game.

    [Reply]

  47. anyone seen agbonlahors upcoming fixtures. Not that easy.

    -Liverpool - not easy
-tottenham - Shudnt be easy if tottenham pick it up
-west brom - a derby is never easy

Now isnt the time to transfer in Agbonlahor, in a couple of week after the liverpool and tottenham games.

    [Reply]

  48. Arsenal sign Silvestre. Could be interesting. Bolster Arsenals defence and improve clean sheet potential. Sloppy Senderos could get benched.

    [Reply]

  49. Why do people make transfers early in the week I ask?? Why not wait til the Friday evening or Saturday morning to see the likely team and injury update etc?

I know player values may decrease etc but surely gaining that edge is not worth risking transfering in an injured player..

    [Reply]

    Gravatar

Well if you pick 15 players that are guaranteed to start, then you minimise the risk of a midweek injury causing a real problem from an early transfer.

So many people are operating with a 100m team cost they simply can’t afford that extra 0.1m and have to get in quick. Some people have their transfers planned out weeks in advance to take advantage of fixtures, and only deviate for injuries or excessively bad form.

There’s plenty strategies to take into account.

  51. Just discovered this site after years of pain playing fantasy footy with a very average left foot.

I’m on the other side of the world and suffer a bit from lack of info. But the upside is I can generally transfer a player in form quickly (while FPL asleep) before he increases in price, although I do get the odd late injury to temper that!
I’m amping to get my boy Bullard in, but can’t cop Fulham for the next few rounds.
Tear this line-up apart for me:
    * Almunia (for the very near future) /Schwarzer
    * Gallas, Carvalho, Lescott / Figueroa, Luke Young
    * Ashley Young, Lampard, Nasri, Arteta / Faubert
    * Santa Cruz, Alves / Miller

  52. Bosingwa went of injured after 35 mins last night.

No news on how serious it is, hopefully it’s just a precaution.

OMFG that’s the last time I ever jump straight into an early transfer!! Took out Carvalho for him on Tuesday.

Chelsea Website shows that he was taken off injured.

    No mention of being precautionary.

I’m taking him out before his price drops!

  53. Surely one of your subs must be good enough to cover?

  54. Already sold him!

Needs to be a guaranteed starter for £6million!

Think I will too, the site below says he was taken off injured. Going to be highly doubtful for the weekend

Where does it say he is highly doubtful for the weekend?

I think a few people are jumping the gun a bit on this one. Surely best to wait till the weekend. He wasn’t even meant to be starting last Sunday yet managed to play and pick up 6 points.

i agree. i wouldn’t be surprised if we see both nasri and bosingwa play. either way, he’s a good defender for 6 and his price will only go up.

  55. I bought Bosingwa too! That is so annoying!

  56. Clucking bell. Thats all I need another re-run of last years horrendous start with injuries etc, i made my free transfer this week to bring in a better defender, but that defender has a bad fixture this week (before having a nice run wk 3 onwards). Took me until Xmas to get back on track last season (came back from dead last to finish second in the league i was in)

  57. So i was thinking of getting rid of Evra this week to raise the funds to upgrade Adam Johnson to MG Pedersen but noticed that Faubert is relatively cheap at 5.5m. What do you guys think on him, will he be good for the Hammers this season for that price (1.5m cheaper than MGP).

    Maybe i should keep Evra?

  58. Hello guys can u all give some advice for my team? i think its screwed :(

    Jaaskelainen (Schwarzer)
    Clichy, Evra, Jagielka, Laursen (Mendy)
    Arteta, Downing, A.Young, Osman (Hamann)
    Torres, Adebayor (Windass)

Should I change my strikers? cos i dont think they represent good value at the rate their teams are playing but if I were to transfer i might have to make >1 transfer to bolster other areas of my team (is this worth it). Do u all reckon my subs will play? and who shld I make captain? thanks :)

  59. You’ve only seen one game… don’t really understand how you can judge a team’s form on the first game of the season. Arsenal might destroy Fulham in the next game, and Liverpool have Middlesborough (and their dodgy defence) at Anfield.

Is it not worth seeing the results here first?

You’re subs aren’t great imo, but there’s already plenty info on good budget buys. Have a look in the guides.

    A. Young could be good captain material this weekend, but don’t quote me on that.

I don’t really think it’s advice you’re after tbh, maybe it’s actually a crystal ball you need ;-)
    But then, don’t we all.

i agree, don’t be ditching torres and adebayor after 1 game. They will surely be excellent value over the season. Santa Cruz and agbonlahor may score well against weaker teams but torres and adebayor could score against any of the teams in the prem.

  60. Hi All,
Who do you think is the best option for a striker this gameweek? I’ve currently got Adebayor, Tevez and Bent, but am also thinking Agbonlahor and Santa Cruz might be good options.

    Any thoughts?

    Yes, they are good options.

all 5 could score well this week. If you’ve already spent points making subs elsewhere, i’d stick with what you
