Nasri Doubt For Fulham Clash?
Samir Nasri has withdrawn from the French squad for their international with Sweden on Wednesday with a thigh injury.
Nasri was the major bright spark in Arsenal’s somewhat lazy 1-0 win over West Brom on Saturday and has since attracted a lot of interest from fantasy managers.
Having reportedly suffered from the complaint for several weeks, it is hoped that his absence from the Sweden game is just a precaution on Arsenal’s part. However, until we here otherwise, Nasri must be classified as a doubt for the trip to Fulham this weekend.

Thats nice . So who do i replace him with now . Modric ? I have young . Lampard . Arteta . Nashri in my mid . What do you guys think
[Reply]
i already used my free transfer on getting him in. just have to hope he is fit for fulham game. with him and fab out, it may not be an easy ride for arsenal.

Some people were trying to beat the price rise, me thinks.
I considered trading in Santa early for the above reason, but decided a 0.1-0.2 rise was a fair price to pay to be sure he’ll be fit by the weekend.

Hey guys . Who do you guys think would be a good replacement for nashri in game week 2 . I have young lampard arteta and nashri in my mid . And this this a good midfield to have in this game week

I guarantee Nasri will play for Arsenal on the weekend. Wenger never likes his players going off to play for the national squad during the season especially when he’s struggling for midfielders. Don’t stress cause Nasri will play, it’s just a ploy by Wenger so he doesn’t risk Nasri getting injured in the France game.

Who thinks they know the 2 centre backs for Aston Villa? Villa leak too many goals O’Neil knows this.
I think Cuellar is a certainty (he is quality)That means could Laursen be dropped? Having watched Villa a number of times I do not rate Laursen defensively, I think Davis has potential. Could the unthinkable happen and Lausen get dropped?
Views welcome

Laursen is Villa captain this season, so I can’t see him being dropped in favour of Cuellar. Davis will make way.

Reply by Old Gregg on August 20, 2008 11:42 am:
Djorou- not sure. Toure is fit now, so he could potentially slot in with Gallas instead. However the midfield is still an injury raven mess, so it’s not an impossibility that Toure could be moved into centre mid (in much the same way Eboue was last week). Also Senderos isn’t far away from fitness (Senderos has traditionally been ahead of Djorou in the pecking order).
Basically he’s by no means guaranteed to start next game, and his long-term role is unknown (though with everyone fit I doubt he will get a look in). So bleak I’m afraid mate.
[Reply]
Think you need to add ‘Inj’ to your scout picks list in that case - he’s currently showing as fit to play.
[Reply]
well josh,
if i didn’t make the transfer early on, i wouldn’t have been able to afford him in the first place as the 0.1 increase would be too much for me. That comes with reading these forums and being so ‘into it’. But, if he is injured nothing one can do about that. If he aint and plays, then i’ve got him before the price jump.
Don’t knock experience lad.

Captain for Gameweek 2?
I usually go for a midfielder playing at home but I’m thinking Ashley Young, as he’s playing against Stoke, and no international distractions.

i’m fairly certain he’ll play as some have stated before. it’s wenger after all. i wouldn’t be surprised though if they pulled him off if they’re way ahead around 60 min.

For me it’s out of A.Young or Lampard away to Wigan. Lampard looked sharp last game but I just have that feeling that Young could take that next step up to superstardom any minute and if he does, I can’t think of anyone else better to start with then against Stoke. Very tough call.

I’m not so sure on everyone’s predictions that Villa will walk all over Stoke. The Brittania Stadium is a horrible place to go & most teams won’t enjoy it, i expect it to be a tight match, especially with Stoke’s new signings (Davies & Faye at the back), home advantage & getting over 1st game jitters.
Is no-one backing Liverpool? Spurs should’ve got at least 3 against a suspect Boro defence last week - i’m thinking Gerrard for captain this week.

I don’t know who to transfer, or if I should make a transfer?
Reina Schwarzer
Clichy Carvalho Cahill Figueroa Young

Taylor/Petrov for Arteta
Bent for Agbonlahor

I fancy Faubert as a better West Ham midfield option than Noble this season. He picked up an assist against Wigan, took a lot of the set pieces and looked creative. Both are currently valued at 5.5m.

Going for Ashley Young as captain this week, I can’t see Chelsea having it too easy away to Wigan and regardless of the Villa Stoke score Young is always involved in the points so is worth being the captain this week
[Reply]
Why hasn’t everybody got Darren Bent in their team? a cheap as chips (7.5m in FPL), tremendous pre-season, international striker and guaranteed starter for team packed with creative midfield talent. Surely he’s going play every week and get 15-20 goals this season.

i do like a blonde, but he’s not in my team unfortunatley
on another note, i have Turnball as my sub which i thought was rather shrewd until i saw Jones on the teamsheet last Saturday (doh!).
wondering if any Boro fans have some colour on whether Jonesy is now #1 or whether they think Turnball may well get his shot (if say, Jones has a howler agaisnt the ‘pool)? i really dont want to waste a transfer on the sub gk but if i do get round to it then it would be even worse to have to sub turnball back in…
[Reply]
the way liverpool have been playing, i can see boro winning that game. i would wait a week and then get rid of turnbull, at least then you will see if jones really is 1st choice or if southgate will rotate them like in pre-season. if they are rotated, then it is probably pointless having either one of them, and if they aren’t, then you can bring in jones
[Reply]
Reply by Dr. Rog on August 20, 2008 3:18 pm:
can see them being rotated which is a shame because 4mln for a Boro keeper is a steal.
i’ve noticed that pretty much my entire team is playing away this week, woopeydoo, so having a dilemma on whom to bench.
downing, taylor or ashton?
Downing: i benching him last year vs liverpool away and he scored 2 goals and got MoM or similar… gutted i was so dont really want to do that again.
Ashton: Brace in first game (isnt that 7 goals in 9?) so on form and City have wask defence now.
Taylor: He is on the bench at the moment as he didnt do anything against Stoke and I cant see Bolton scoring more than one at newcastle.
Anyone have a different take?

How about swapping Downing for Geovanni or Guthrie, and one of your cheap strikers for Alves. Makes your team look a lot better balanced. I’d also consider dropping Laursen for either L Young or Cahill and upgrading your keeper.

Reply by Beeeez Dad on August 20, 2008 5:48 pm:
I also like the Laursen for L. Young move to free up some more cash to upgrade one of the strikers. Personally, I’m not on the Geovanni bandwagon, so I wouldn’t adjust that given what you’ve got. Don’t get me wrong - it’s great at that price to get someone with regular minutes and at least occasional upside, but I wouldn’t move out someone like Downing who is a much more solid play. There’s nothing wrong with having 5 solid in the middle, so I’d hang tight with this and see how it plays out (if it were me).

WHY OH WHY!
Every man and his dog knows England have a great midfield and with Steven Gerrard they have the world’s best. So why does every england manager play them and him out of position?
England should either set up like Chelsea do the old 4-3-2-1 formation Hardgreaves centre, Barry Left Lampard right, Gerrard and Cole given free range Rooney up front or a 4-2-3-1 formation with Hardgreaves and Barry sitting infront protecting the back 4 with Gerrard Lampard and Cole bombing on to support Rooney.
Why do we not play to our strengths? Midfield Midfield Midfield!
Gerrard playing on the left, opposition allowed to run at our back 4 criminal!

Gerrard and Lampard can play together, but they need to be relieved of their defensive duties!
Whan they have played well for their clubs they have always played alongside defensive midfielders.

Peter,
I have Carvalho but I can see the merits of Terry - he’s more of goal-scoring threat and less vulnerable to rotation in the squad, but he’s a wee bit more expensive.
The truth of the matter is when Carvalho played 90 minutes for Chelsea last season they never lost and he did pick up some valuable bonus points on the way. He and Terry are well-protected by the midfield so you could argue that bonus points may be more sparing for both this season, but who knows with the infamous bonus point panel??.

You have Meite in your team (albeit a sub) for goodness sake. That’s an issue I’d deal with first. Get another cheap defender that you rotate and hopefully pick up some clean sheets at home… Figeuero being a common shout. The rest of your team is fine (depending on how Ashton’s injury is). Although I’d wait till after the Chelsea game.

anyone seen agbonlahors upcoming fixtures. Not that easy.
-Liverpool - not easy

Now isnt the time to transfer in Agbonlahor, in a couple of week after the liverpool and tottenham games.

Arsenal sign Silvestre. Could be interesting. Bolster Arsenals defence and improve clean sheet potential. Sloppy Senderos could get benched.

Why do people make transfers early in the week I ask?? Why not wait til the Friday evening or Saturday morning to see the likely team and injury update etc?
I know player values may decrease etc but surely gaining that edge is not worth risking transfering in an injured player..
[Reply]
Reply by Maureenho on August 21, 2008 8:45 am:
Well if you pick 15 players that are guaranteed to start, then you minimise the risk of a midweek injury causing a real problem from an early transfer.
So many people are operating with a 100m team cost they simply can’t afford that extra 0.1m and have to get in quick. Some people have their transfers planned out weeks in advance to take advantage of fixtures, and only deviate for injuries or excessively bad form.
There’s plenty strategies to take into account.

Just discovered this site after years of pain playing fantasy footy with a very average left foot.
I’m on the other side of the world and suffer a bit from lack of info. But the upside is I can generally transfer a player in form quickly (while FPL asleep) before he increases in price, although I do get the odd late injury to temper that!
I’m amping to get my boy Bullard in, but can’t cop Fulham for the next few rounds.
Tear this line-up apart for me:

Bosingwa went of injured after 35 mins last night.
No news on how serious it is, hopefully it’s just a precaution.

OMFG that’s the last time I ever jump straight into an early transfer!! Took out Carvalho for him on Tuesday.

Chelsea Website shows that he was taken off injured.
No mention of being precautionary.
I’m taking him out before his price drops!

Surely one of your subs must be good enough to cover?
[Reply]
Already sold him!
Needs to be a guaranteed starter for £6million!

Think I will too, the site below says he was taken off injured. Going to be highly doubtful for the weekend

Where does it say he is highly doubtful for the weekend?
I think a few people are jumping the gun a bit on this one. Surely best to wait till the weekend. He wasn’t even meant to be starting last Sunday yet managed to play and pick up 6 points.

i agree. i wouldn’t be surprised if we see both nasri and bosingwa play. either way, he’s a good defender for 6 and his price will only go up.

I bought Bosingwa too! That is so annoying!

Clucking bell. Thats all I need another re-run of last years horrendous start with injuries etc, i made my free transfer this week to bring in a better defender, but that defender has a bad fixture this week (before having a nice run wk 3 onwards). Took me until Xmas to get back on track last season (came back from dead last to finish second in the league i was in)

So i was thinking of getting rid of Evra this week to raise the funds to upgrade Adam Johnson to MG Pedersen but noticed that Faubert is relatively cheap at 5.5m. What do you guys think on him, will he be good for the Hammers this season for that price (1.5m cheaper than MGP).
Maybe i should keep Evra?

Hello guys can u all give some advice for my team? i think its screwed
Jaaskelainen (Schwarzer)
Clichy, Evra, Jagielka, Laursen (Mendy)
Arteta, Downing, A.Young, Osman (Hamann)
Torres, Adebayor (Windass)
Should I change my strikers? cos i dont think they represent good value at the rate their teams are playing but if I were to transfer i might have to make >1 transfer to bolster other areas of my team (is this worth it). Do u all reckon my subs will play? and who shld I make captain? thanks

You’ve only seen one game… don’t really understand how you can judge a team’s form on the first game of the season. Arsenal might destroy Fulham in the next game, and Liverpool have Middlesborough (and their dodgy defence) at Anfield.
Is it not worth seeing the results here first?
You’re subs aren’t great imo, but there’s already plenty info on good budget buys. Have a look in the guides.
A. Young could be good captain material this weekend, but don’t quote me on that.
I don’t really think it’s advice you’re after tbh, maybe it’s actually a crystal ball you need
But then, don’t we all.

i agree, don’t be ditching torres and adebayor after 1 game. They will surely be excellent value over the season. Santa Cruz and agbonlahor may score well against weaker teams but torres and adebayor could score against any of the teams in the prem.

Hi All,
Who do you think is the best option for a striker this gameweek? I’ve currently got Adebayor, Tevez and Bent, but am also thinking Agbonlahor and Santa Cruz might be good options.
Any thoughts?

Yes, they are good options.

all 5 could score well this week. If you’ve already spent points making subs elsewhere, i’d stick with what you
