Window Watch – Victor Moses To Wigan

The gloom around Selhurst Park only deepened at the close of the January transfer window with news that Crystal Palace, reeling from the effects of enforced administration, consequently sold teenage prodigy Victor Moses to Wigan Athletic for a lower-than-anticipated price of £2.5m.

Having signed a three and a half year contract, the England U19 international became Robert Martinez’s fourth signing in the January transfer window, and with the plaudits coming thick and fast, his debut is eagerly anticipated…

Moses arrived on these shores as an 11yr old asylum seeker following the murder of both parents in his native Nigeria, and to have forged a successful career for himself only stands testament to his strength of character.

Although he comes to the Premiership in a hot streak of form -netting five times in his last seven games- Moses record for Palace is 11 goals in 58 league games, suggesting he is no out-and-out goalscorer.

Great with both feet, he has the pace, power, skill and technique to play on either wing or behind a striker, as well as up top (though at around 5 foot 9 in, he clearly is no target man). On completion of the deal, a clearly delighted Martinez said:

“He is a special talent, you can see that straight away. Like young James McCarthy, who has given us no choice but to play him in the Wigan first team with his attitude and form, Victor is a real player in the making.”

With Martinez occasionally trying out a 4-4-2 as an alternative to his favoured 4-5-1 formation, it seems there is a variety of positions that Moses can fit into in his Wigan team. Those most likely at risk would be Jason Scotland or Paul Scharner, as Moses, a far more multi-functional player, would be able to play either role, – ie, forward or attacking midfield- without losing his effectiveness.

Coming in at just £5.5 in FPL, and classified as a midfielder, Moses arrives at a time where the team, with only one win in eight games following their FA Cup exit to Notts County, look to take advantage of the favourable run of fixtures ahead; the next seven gameweeks not only see Wigan play at home six times, the club also participate in two Double GameWeeks, with their fixtures being (sun, STK&BOL, TOT, bir, LIV, bol&AVL, BUR), which gives the youngster plenty opportunity to show those at the DW Stadium his considerable talents.

    Hey guys,

does anyone have the SAF quote where he references having to rest key players when required. Want to rub share it with my colleague who just tfrd in Rooney.

    cheers
    t.

    • Andy says:

I wouldn’t be rub-sharing it with anyone until he actually gets rested first… otherwise you may end up looking the lemon.

      I know I’m buying Rooney.

      • Crushing_It says:

lol. Can’t resist! Com’on Andy, I know you got it. I went trawling for your link a couple posts back, but could not find it.

        I promise I will behave.

      • Jonny says:

        Also, rub-sharing is incredibly unhygienic.

        • Crushing_It says:

Do you think that with a name like Crushing_it, I can hold back any opportunity to banter, no matter how likely that banter will turn around and bite me in the ass.

Like my man Bob Marley you to say: “Strike the hammer while the iron is hot!”

    • What is it with all this touting of Rooney being rested?

      1. With Chelsea playing Arsenal an opportunity to possibly go ahead of Chelski, if not even further behind.
      3. Rooney is the in form player at Man U
      4. Rooney will not want to be rested

In my opinion not a snowball’s chance in hell he will be rested.

      • it’s called clutching at straws. i’m even hanging on to quotes from my latest issue of fourfourtwo trying to cinvince myself they are relevent: “it’s hard – I want to play every week – but you learn how important it is to keep fresh for the big games.”

    • jms says:

Rub share until you are raw:

      • Crushing_It says:

        thanks jms!

Just sent it to all my rooney owners in the office and got them sweating their **** off… wahahaha! Loving it!

  2. StevieWall says:

Will we know if Rooney is playing pompey before deadline?

I think he most likely will will start as he is the only certainty for goals in that team, but having seen rumours on here he may (fairly understandably) be rested, I thought I would check.

    • tlow says:

unless SAF says so in his interview today we won’t know till about 2:30pm tomorror

    • The rumours are exactly that – based on so called hunchs and too much time spent thinking on the thrown. Even, EVEN if rooney is rested I would take that risk over the risk of not having him, him scoring a hat trick and everyone bar 3 people having him as captain.

  3. Sorensen
    Shawcross, Hughes, Richards, Carr
    Fabregas, Milner, Ballack
    Tevez, Defoe, Rooney(c)
Subs: Friedel, Ivanovic, Cohen, Rodwell(I’ll remove him one day)

Does this looks the best possible choice with this team?

    Thanks

  4. metalhead says:

    etherington/tuncay/eagles/ohara for a 4pt hit..any advice will do :)

  5. lawman says:

About to do Gallas to Toure.

    Yay or nay?

  6. RmS says:

    Quality.

Just opened a savings account for the family.

  7. Shark Dude says:

I want to get Terry out now for 7.7 million (got him for 7.4). Is Evans a likely starter v Pompey? My other alternative is G Cahill.

Then to complete my 4 point hit I want to dump Dunn of blackburn (too unreliable). I’m thinking N’Zogbia…..but could Moses be worth a risk?!

    Any thoughts?

  8. Gio says:

    RMT lads!!!

    hart,
    ivan, evra, ridge (scharner, zubar)
    fab, lamps, nzog, ethering (cohen)
rooney (c), zamora, anelka for ade/tevez (can’t decide!)

    • daniel.mf says:

ANd Mccarthy benched, Scharner playing and this info really are interesting for me.

      • MFaulkner says:

They reckon Ramsey will start. I wouldn’t read much in to it. Most of the guys that write the team sheets aren’t as well informed as we are.

  9. Shark Dude says:

I can get Rooney in, but I’d have to drop Tevez or Drogba. Worth it? Will he be rested?!? And it’d be part of an 8 point hit.

  10. goose says:

Can i request some advice from you kind and knowledgable people.

    Hart
    Ivanonvic, Evra, Dann
    Lamps, Modric, Nzogbia, Murphy,
    Drogba, Tevez, Rooney

    Sorensen, Scharner, Baird, Dunn

Is that the correct line up? Maybe Sorensen in net?

Gonna get Dunn out too, who would people suggest?

Thinking maybe Lee, Etherington, Tuncay, OHara ?

    • MFaulkner says:

Yep, that’s the right team. And if you’re selling Dunn, get Lee and play him instead of Murphy.

    • metalhead says:

i am thinking of the exact same players to get in for dunn but with a hit…not sure who though

      • zissou says:

Nice team goose, right line up and I’d def play Hart.

I’ve got for Lee in the past, didn’t pay off but I can see myself trying one more time. Him or Tuncay.

      • goose says:

Cheers guys, was thinking that MF, not sure whether to sell Scharner as well or instead? Do you think Lee over Tuncay, im torn between the 2?

        • metalhead says:

tuncay may be better goose..Lee looks like a one hit wonder

          • goose says:

I can see more from Tuncay but not sure he is as certain to start?

Anyone looking at Cahill? The fixtures are decent in terms of number but i dont see them keeping many cleanies but he does seem to pop up with goals and bps all over the place! And im worried about his threat as a few of my rivals have him!

        • MFaulkner says:

I’ve got to get rid of those two as well, and I’m leaning towards selling Dunn, firstly because he’s dropping in price, and secondly because he’s not actually playing, whereas Scharner can at least get points if need be.

I’d definitely choose Lee over Tuncay, as I think Stoke’s fixtures flatter to deceive. They can’t score away from home, and Man City could easily nab a win at the Britannia. Moses (Owen Coyle) seems to have injected life into Bolton and Lee’s been their most dangerous player going forward since his arrival.

        • si says:

I cant really decide between the 2 either.

Lee is a certain starter and will play 90 mins. And has 2 DGW’s.

I think Lee wins on this basis.

          • goose says:

I think every dgw teams fixtures flatter to decieve, apart from WIgan, but this is Wigan were talking about! Maybe ill get rid of Scharner next week as ill be doing Lamps > Fabregas so i can use the extra funds to get a decent replacement for him.

You reckon Lee is a definite starter? You dont see Weiss or Wiltshire as threats to his place?

            • si says:

I reckon Taylor is more at risk than Lee. He has been taken off for Weiss in the last 2 games.

      • DermoHiggs says:

What about Wilshere as an option to Lee. Expected to start at the weekend but nobody seems to care??

  11. BigUps says:

I’m thinking of holding my transfer for next week so I have 2 freebies. Do you see any major holes in the following lineup before I stand pat?

    Hart (Sorensen)
    Shaw-X, Ivanovic, Dunne, Dann (Baird)
    Lamps, Fabs, N’Zogbia, Tuncay (Modric)
    Tevez, Rooney-C (Piquionne)

I have 1 free transfer and 1.6 in the bank.

  12. lawman says:

Etherington or Nelsen? Need to play 1, not sure which. Dont have any other Stoke or Blackburn players in my team.

  13. metalhead says:

i think i know the obvious ones but still wont mind any inputs on two to play from baird/cohen/arsh/ivan

    • metalhead says:

or better still my whole team:
      gomes (given)
      baird craddock nelsen dann (ivan)
      arsh nzog lamp (cohen dunn)
      rooney tevez drog

      who to bench then?

  14. m165 says:

    Any advice on these transfers?

    A)
    GW25: Gallas > Evra.
    GW26: Lampard > N’Zogbia & Diamanti > Drogba.

    B)
    GW25: Cohen > Etherington.
    GW26: Lampard > N’Zogbia & Diamanti > Drogba.

    C)
Play Cohen or Hughes, and have two free’s next week.

    Cheers.

  15. greghammer95 says:

There are two new posts if anyone is interested.

  16. To continue the players being rested rumours:

Lamps will be rested as he is very tired
Tevez will be rested as he is 26 years old today (yes just 26!)
Fabs will be rested for an extended siesta
Drogs will be rested because Terry slept with Vanessa

  17. snowman says:

who to get in place of gera?

looking at bolton midifelder, already have lee. got 1.6 in the bank

not sure who is likeliest to play apart from taylor?

  18. rampantrovers says:

Why isn’t wright philips starting these days is he injured or just not in mancini’s plans?

  19. Any clues yet on the Nani/Valencia debate? Who is gunna start godammit – if Valencia is going to be benched i will get rid now, i dont want to keep getting a 1pt return for 5mins on a 8.4m player!!

    • Crushing_It says:

keep valencia one more week. better than kicking yourself if he does play and kills it… rever is true if you don;t have him, then no point bring him or nani in…

  20. mmm, shall I play lee or nzog tomorrow?
