England’s convincing 4-0 defeat of the Bulgarian’s at Wembley this evening brought the first key injury casualty of the international break with Michael Dawson suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp enjoyed a bittersweet evening having watched Jermain Defoe striker a hat-trick in England colours, only to see him limp off with an ankle knock. But it was the injury to Dawson that will concern him and Fantasy Managers alike.

Dawson was pictured falling awkwardly on his right leg, leaving him writhing in agony. He was duly stretchered from the field and became an immediate doubt for England’s qualifier with Switzerland on Tuesday. Fabio Capello revealed after the game that the defender will face scans to assess the damage…

“I have to wait to find out about Dawson….We have to wait for the tests, but no-one else had problems.”

The defender’s plight looks pretty dismal based on the images we saw during the game and Redknapp must tonight be concerned that he could be robbed of a key player for a number of weeks.

For Fantasy Managers the injury Dawson could not come at a worse time. Spurs were due to embark on a kind of games (wba WOL whm AVL ful EVE) that would likely offer returns at both ends of the field. Dawson’s absence could now cement Younes Kaboul’s place in the side after he started the Wigan game at right-back in place of Vedran Corluka. Sebastien Bassong and William Gallas are the other candidates who could benefit.

Dawson remains the most popular defender in the Fantasy Premier League game with almost 24% ownership. There will be a lot of Fantasy Managers awaiting the scan results in the next 48 hours.

“I think we needed that. I had good years with Neil Warnock but we were in a bad position.I spoke with the chairman and the situation now has changed. They want to keep me and we're going to have a discussion when we come back.”
