Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Semi Final Draw

We’re down to the last four managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII, sponsored by Paddy Power. Ahead of the next round of matches – which takes place in Gameweek 23, over next Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches – we take a look at the quartet who still harbour hopes of taking home the silverware.

Cunny Funts remains the favourite as we had into the final straight. Ranked at 688 overall, he saw off the challenge of YestheSess! in the quarter-finals and was the highest scoring manager to progress, with 71 points accrued in Gameweek 22. He’s up against Tdubb05 (36,120th overall), who racked up a 62-55 win over sim716 to make his way into the final four.

The pair have just five identical players – Seamus Coleman, Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luis Suarez and both have made two transfers so far this week. Only Cunny Funts still has his wildcard left to play, though.

The other tie sees Ajax, with a rank of 23,489 overall, up against Tal, who currently sits in 57,457 in the rankings. Ajax is in the better form of the two – he outscored ec3dm by 60 points to 52 points to progress, whilst Tal booked him place in the semi-finals with a narrow 47-45 win over 11 Men in Flight.

Both managers have already played their wildcards, though intriguingly have just three of the same players – Suarez, Hazard and Adnan Januzaj – suggesting this one looks wide open.

As mentioned previously, it’s not just bragging rights on offer here – the top three will be rewarded for their exploits.

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher

At that price, once he's gone, he's gone for the season. If you're ok with that then there's no real reason to keep him.

Not wildcarding until next game week and been trying to create an Aguero, RVP, Suarez strike force.

Not easy but I came up with this...what do you think?

    Adrian - Mannone
    Terry - Kolorov - Gabbidon - Bruce - Chambers
    Hazard - Ramsey - Nolan - Puncheon
    RVP - Suarez - Aguero

Down grade to who exactly? They're the cheapest ones in the top teams who's got more game time and will probably get clean sheets. I can downgrade Per to Kos. Save .4 there but which players replace Skrtel and Dawson?

You should take some cheapies who you can rotate to play your 3.4.3 or 3.5.2 depending on how you set up. There might be a week when your big defenders have bad fixtures and you play two of them.

People like M. Olsson, Bardsley, Clyne, Vlaar to replace those two.

I would also resist having Boruc as your 2nd keeper. You can save money there as you'll be playing the Arsenal keeper most weeks.

The most important thing to do if on WC this week or next (not me, sadly) is to wait for the FA Cup matches and subsequent 5th round draw. Then you'll be in a better position to know or estimate some players who will definitely be playing in GW29 - and some of these should be included - especially for the 'minor' places in your squad.

Really liking the look of this WC team atm:
    .
    .
    .
    Mannone - Adrian

    Kos - Azpi - Kolarov - Ward - Olsson

    Hazard - Yaya - Cazorla - AJ - Pozuelo

    Suarez - Aguero - Adebayor
    .
    .
    .
It's got a nice balance to it with room for punts such as Cazorla, AJ and Kolarov. I plan to downgrade Caz to Rambo when he's back and upgrade AJ to Lallana/Cabaye.

Well then, what do you think?

I think with Everton's injuries and being a Martinez favourite he will play a lot. As for Poz, players are returning from injuries and they are making bids for midfielders. I think Oviedo is more nailed on.

The Buruc/Davis combo is screwed if Southampton get a blank week.
But I suppose the Mannone/Adrian combo is screwed if Adrian doesn't play GW28.

I'm definitely risking one of them though. Which of these pairs do you prefer the most? I'm torn.

Soton are due to play Liverpool on GW29. You'd expect at least one of these to get through to the cup QFs (depending on the draw, of course). So for now I'd go for the Mannone/Adrian combo, but be prepared to need to swap Adrian out if he doesn't look nailed on for a cheap GW28er.

You're right. My mistake. It's PAL/sot in GW29. This has probably got a better chance of being played, but both clubs are still in the cup so it's draw-dependent. Point still stands, however.

I think an advantage can be gained over others if you're mindful of it. A squad that's got more than the average number of players for GW29 but still has 11 competitive players for GW30 will be the one that moves furthest up the rankings. But don't decimate your team just for GW29.

I'd say it was possible, not necessarily likely. Sky/UEFA take a dim view of the PL clubs rearranging fixtures for when the CL is on. GW31 looks favourite for a few postponed matches. Although Sunderland may miss two on the trot so there may not be too many alternatives for them. So, as you say, a lot up in the air.

If there's as many as five fixtures left then the opportunity becomes massive. If the popular teams of Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are still in it (which is reasonably likely unless they draw eachother in R5) then a good strategy can really improve your ranking.

Does Mata to Man U increase the potential of Rooney?

Im considering him for a spot in my team, he is always going to get points and surely with Mata in there the likelihood is that he will play much further up the field. Mata will be the one who drops deeper to pick up the ball and rooney will be on the end of the through balls rather than trying to provide them.

Aguero, Suarez, Rooney sure does look tempting!

Idealistic. On the other hand Mata saves you several mil and a fwd slot for your united coverage.

For me I'm certainly keen on a Mata/Yaya/Haz midfield in the short term. I currently have Januzaj though, so working out what Mata's arrival means for him will be consuming at least some of my thoughts.

Hard to say until we've seen how they line up. The fact that he's a better player than their current options is obviously a plus and it should, like you see, mean less of Rooney playing deeper. However, it could mean that Rooney loses some of his set pieces (he's been doing pretty well off corners this season) and even that he could be rotated in some games...

Correct. Keep 15 fit and nailed on players with a GK +3 others from these teams to rest in GW28 then collect DGW on those players later.

West Brom vs Man Utd the only confirmed game for GW29 and they were both knocked out by other prem teams last round.

Plus there is only one all premier league tie this round, where are the upsets?
