Suspension Tightrope – Serene

Filed under: Suspensions - Posted by: Paul

Gameweek 32 proved to be a remarkably calm affair, with not a single player sent off over the 10 fixtures. In addition, none of those at the top of the Suspension Tightrope toppled either, though five players remain just a single yellow card away from an automatic two-match ban:

The quintet in question are Steven Gerrard, Ramires, Gareth Barry, Phil Bardsley and Mathieu Flamini. Gerrard is obviously the biggest worry for Fantasy managers and Brendan Rodgers handled his skipper with care last weekend – with his side 3-0 up and cruising at home to Tottenham, Rodgers replaced his captain with 20 minutes still remaining in light of an upcoming schedule which see the Merseysiders face fellow title challengers City and Chelsea in the next four.

The extension deadline is the second Sunday (13th) in April, meaning Gerrard has to avoid a booking against West Ham and City in order to remain free of suspension. Bardsley and Barry also have two games apiece, though Flamini has just one to navigate – the reason being is that Arsenal’s Gameweek 34 clash with West Ham doesn’t take place until Tuesday 15 April.

Ramires also has a single match to avoid picking up a booking. He is currently set to serve the last of a three-match ban against Stoke this weekend before returning to action in time for the Gameweek 34 clash with Swansea – pick up a yellow in that one and he’s immediately back on the sidelines.

Four players return from suspension this week. Fernando Amorebieta, Jon Walters, Jonas Olsson and George Boyd are now available for selection once again. Marouane Fellaini also remains suspension-free. The FA have reviewed an alleged spitting incident in last week’s Manchester derby but have cleared the United midfielder of any wrongdoing.

  1. Pleasantly surprised by Buttner. First time he has had anything like a run of games and he kept Robben pretty much under wraps. Could he be the answer for United at left back?

    1. I think if evra played, we would be worse off

    2. I wouldn't say he kept him under wraps but he wasn't as terrible as expected.

    3. Better than Evra defensively and has been for the last season or two.

      1. Don't think so, prone to errors and overplaying

He isn't polished, but played a hell of a match tonight.

        1. I think Evra's attacking threat vastly masks his poor defensive side, that'd be my take at least!

          1. agree. used to be other way round when he joined man utd, then he became good at both and as a result one of the best left backs in the world, now he's kept the attacking and purely with loss of pace lost the defensive side

            1. Exactly. I would be a strong believer that the full back should be defensively strong first followed by capable when attacking. Others seem to prefer attacking over defending but I think it leaves too much exposure on the flanks.

    1. he's invented the cruyff-meg

    1. Nearly kicked his head off.

    2. would have easily counted

    3. yeah that was borderline, martinez being so tall almot cost bayern

    4. I was shocked they disallowed it...

  2. Credit to Utd. Showed real spirit tonight, Vidic was awesome

  3. How do I use my 2FTs wisely?

    Marshall (mannone)
    Coleman azpi davies (fonte ward)
    Gerrard hazard taya AJ (punch)
    Suarez studge luk
    0.3, 2FTs

    1. AJ for eriksen, or marshall for speroni

  4. Coutois - another Chelsea loanee

    1. He is.

      1. Better than Cech.

        1. I think a new bumper 4 yr deal and one more season at Atleti is coming

  5. Fellani is bad
    De Gea is good

    Beyern 4-0 at home.

Man we'd be so much better if that Rooney move came off..

    1. I thought this was gonna be a poem!

      1. Let's see if I can spin it into a haiku!

  6. Does Roy Keane hate Man Utd? Always comes across that way. I know he doesn't like Fergie, but what's he got against the club....

    1. Think his beef is with Fergie not the club. Thought his analysis was spot on tonight.

    2. To be fair, he hates everyone and everything.

    3. Yeh he does sound bitter doesn't he

    4. In his recent interviews, he says he is a fan of the club and goes to see games with his kids there when he can

  7. Anyone have any info into when Nasty is back and if he'll immediately threaten Demchelis' place?
It says back 5th April on FPL but I ignore that stuff.

    1. Idiot Pellagrini loves demechelis, doubt you see nasty take any of his time

  8. Ok guys, have a couple of dilemmas. Last time I trusted my gut and that didn't end up good.

    Chester (SWA) or Coleman (ARS)
    Mannone (tot) or Adrian (LIV)

    1. Try your gut once more. It will work then.

    2. coleman

  9. "Inside Manchester City"…..

Programme starting now on ITV4….could be interesting if you haven't seen it before ?

Mrs Wasabi will be insisting we watch the news

    1. Is it a tour of an oil well?

  10. Not surprising that United play more through the centre and things go a little better.

    1. Not suprising that mata being out makes them look like united again.

Jose had him pinned, not a team player, only good for cherry picking killer passes, never gonna be good enough to win the PL

      1.
player of the year for chelsea last 2 seasons, gone for a few months, and chelsea fans are already turning against him??
        so much for loyalty

        1. You can't buy loyalty ;)

        2. Never liked his performances for Chelsea much tbh

In General, English fans are far too statistic and result oriented. The awards and pub was a result of his assist totals and his managers holding him up as an example, which Inthink hurt his development in the end.

I really wanted Mata based on his play at Valencia and Spain under 21, but he hasn't been the same player that captained his country.

      2. Think that's a bit of rubbish really. Mata isn't a runner, I certainly agree, not fast enough but he's a CAM and that's all he is. Playing in a team where he's frequently pushed to the wing or they insist on constantly crossing the ball instead of going through the centre isn't going to produce his best football. Exact same issue with Kagawa although he has a little more experience playing on the wing.

        1. I would take Kagawa over him every day of the week, not close between the two.

Mata is the same kind of player as Nasri, chooses when to give effort and when to coast on the basis of their talent.

I'm not saying Mata is bad, he's just not worth half what united paid for him. Paid Him like a star, when he's really not much more than Adam Johnson

          1. Oh I certainly would take Kagawa over him as well, no argument there.

I do think that he's a good deal more than Adam Johnson but I also understand your point. I think a tight CAM duo or trio of Kags and Mata would be better than wingers personally.

      3. Most assists for Chelsea two seasons straight and he's not a team player lol....

        1. All he does is go for the killer pass

  11. Feeling frisky? New article
  12. Anyone fear Gerrard will be rested for the west ham game so he's available for City?

    1. surely a possibility, liverpool have lots of cover there now

    2. people have been saying about that but I'd like to argue that Liverpool are so confident right now they can go to West Ham and win without Gerrard having to do any rash challenges, or take one for the team.

  13. That's what I'm hoping, he plays, he scores he gets taken off after 65 mins, everyone's happy!

  14. quick question why are the kick-offs on the 12-13 (gameweek 34) 7 min different from a normal kick-off.
