Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge grab a goal apiece as Liverpool race to a three-goal lead at Selhurst Park. Dwight Gayle emerges from the bench to notch twice and help snatch an unlikely draw which all but ends the Merseysiders’ hopes of clinching the title:

Suarez and Sturridge Both in the Goals
Handed a brief sub role in the previous Gameweek, Daniel Sturridge went into last night’s encounter as a doubt after failing to train for much of the week. Passed fit for the vital Selhurst Park showdown, the England international’s return to the Liverpool starting XI saw Brendan Rodgers shift away from a 4-3-3 and roll out a midfield diamond behind the “SAS” front two, with both the Merseysiders’ front men amongst the goals. Sturridge’s strike was his first since Gameweek 31 and, having plummeted in price from 10.7 to 9.8 in recent weeks, he looks set for a major bandwagon for Sunday’s home encounter with Newcastle.

Suarez is also likely to earn new owners. Sold by over 76,000 Fantasy managers due to the double Gameweek, he had struggled with illness prior to the match but still managed to fire his 31st strike of the season before the Reds somehow blew a three-goal lead late on. With the likes of Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney struggling for fitness, many will move back to the Uruguayan and hand him the armband as Rodgers’ side attempt to recover from last night’s capitulation.

Gerrard in the Points Again
After producing blanks in each of the previous two Gameweeks, the Reds skipper delivered a pair of assists for his Fantasy owners in a pulsating 3-3 stalemate. With 13 goals and 13 assists this season, Gerrard has now surpassed last season’s tally of 185 points and has moved up to 194 – just six behind Eden Hazard in the FPL midfield standings. Raheem Sterling’s role in “the hole” behind the front two helped the youngster to an assist against the Eagles – indeed, his withdrawal on 71 minutes proved crucial and allowed the hosts to claw back a three-goal deficit. Priced at just 6.2, Sterling is another who looks poised for investment as Rodgers’ side look to go on the attack against a Magpies side that has lost six of their last seven.

Reds’ Porous Defence Proves Costly
Whilst Suarez and Sturridge have wreaked havoc on top-flight defences and delivered 52 goals between them, Rodgers’ backline has proven to be Liverpool’s Achilles heel. Last night’s result means the Reds have now conceded two or more goals in each of their last four matches, and although two of those fixtures resulted in victories, there’s no getting away from the fact that Liverpool desperately need to tighten up at the back next year. The 3-3 draw means they have now conceded 49 goals this term – that’s one more than 15th-placed Hull and some 23 more than third-placed Chelsea, for example.

Supersub Gayle Dents the Reds’ Title Hopes
A bit-part player under Tony Pulis, the summer signing’s 22-minute cameo off the bench looks to have handed City the title on a plate. Gayle had featured just three times in the previous 15 Gameweeks – all brief second-half sub appearances – but his two-goal salvo is set to have a huge effect on the race for the title. Liverpool may be a point ahead of City, but a win for Manuel Pellegrini’s men at home to Villa on Wednesday would give them a two-point advantage at the summit, and with a superior goal difference to the Merseysiders, it now looks City’s title to lose.

What to do with this mess?

    Mannone / Boruc
    Jones / Chambers / Ward / Olsson / Ivanovic
Mata / Ramsey / Noone / Eriksen / Yaya Touré
    Suárez / Agüero / Rooney

1 FT, £0.6m in the bank.

1st place in the regular ML is banked, but only 3 persons in it included me: £340
New ML I joined this year, think I have banked 2nd place: £220
Monthly prize of £22 x2 and one 55, hopefully 55 in may also.
Lost H2H, so write off £50 from regular ML

And my bet was 120£ in the one I joined this year and 120 in the regular.
But my cousin paid my bet in the new one before the season started.

Leading on from the discussion above about supporting your local team, I would like to add to this in a way. I am a Man City supporter living in Ireland. I never really followed soccer until 2009 when I went to college and got more interested in it. I was asked to pick a team to support. At the time the most popular clubs in Ireland were United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea. I wanted to pick someone different and City were a good choice at the time as they were upcoming and didn't have as many supporters as the other four. Since then I have always wanted to go to a match but never went through with it as I didn't know where to get a ticket and had no experience of traveling much.

Last summer I joined the local supporters club and have been to three matches since. I would have gone to more but it has been an important year in college and I will go to more next year. I have followed City almost fanatically this season, annoying those around me by talking about it too much. However I still get told I am only following them for the money and not a proper supporter. What are your opinions on this? Just because I followed a team after they got money does that automatically make me a glory-hunter?

      I can see both sides.

I'm from Ireland and the Irish league has gone so downhill in recent times, which is a sad thing because with more funding it has the potential to produce more players like Coleman, McClean, Fahey, Long, Meyler, Doyle and Ward.

I support Swindon because my grandad used to drive the team bus back in the 60's for them so I feel like it's something me and my grandad can share as football fans. I also support St. Pats as my number 1 team over here, go to most of the matches every year.

Frustrates me when the league over here is neglected in place of English/ Spanish/ German teams that clearly don't need the funding or the fan base. I support the Premier League as a neutral because of the quality and entertainment, but all my money goes into the Irish league.

We live in a global age. I personally think its inevitable that people will support teams they do not live near.

I don't live near Brighton but they are still my team. I do support Yeovil as well as they are my nearest -and have seen them and enjoy their passing brand of football. But I'm not a Yeovil fan as such, I'm a Brighton fan.

Tend to agree with regard to the global age. The premier league attracts players and fans from all over the world, Chelsea isn't made up of players from that local area so why should the fans only be allowed to come from that area. Premier league clubs, especially the big ones, are now brands. People from all over the world associate themselves with those brands, it is no longer a matter of location. It annoys me when people say they aren't real fans if they haven't gone to a game either, its not always practical to travel to the other side of the world every week.

I know most of you probably don't know about this story or have not been following it closely. The story I am talking about relates to Rangers and their use of Employee Benefit Trusts (EBT).

These EBTs were used as a means for football clubs to pay high wages but avoid paying tax on it which meant teams could most likely field players they normally could not afford.

Anyway, at the minute Rangers' case against HMRC is in its final round at the upper tier tax tribunal. If Rangers are found guilty then this will be used as case law and the ruling can be applied to other clubs who used EBTs.

You are probably thinking, so what who cares, and I can understand why initially you would think that. However, HMRC have stated that once this case is concluded they will be going after the clubs in England. In 2012 there were at least 8 EPL clubs who had also used EBTs to pay player's wages.

So if Rangers are found guilty then at least 8 teams can expect to be hit with a massive tax bill, along with interest and fines. Who the 8 clubs are I don't know, although I am reasonably confident one of them are Man United.

I believe Arsenal settled their debt to HMRC relating to their use of EBTs. Sure I read that in the telegraph a while ago. However, I am getting old and the memory does not work as well as it used to.

You are perfectly correct in that Arsenal were one of the teams using EBTs and they were investigated by HMRC as a result. However, I am sure I read that they had settled their debt with HMRC already.

        Innocent until proven guilty. 😉

Rangers had 2 tax cases and the first one they were found guilty off and is known as the "wee tax case" believed to be about 6M.

The second one which I am referring to above relates to the "big tax case" which may be up to about 70M by the time you add on fines and interest. This one has been heard three times. The first time Rangers were found guilty, Rangers appealed and were found not guilty (apart from 3 players which they were found guilty for) and now HMRC are appealing and we don't know the verdict yet.

The verdict is irrelevant to oldco Rangers as they liquidated and don't have any money to pay it. It is only the verdict that is important to HMRC as it gives them a precedent to pursue other clubs.

mannone is nailed on to win, but speroni has been absolutely fantastic. Bought him as a 4.5 backup to Boruc on WC when Palace were dreadful, and he ended up hitting form just as Boruc got injured.

Speroni has 2 more CS, but 9 fewer saves.
Mannone on 16 bonus, Speroni 14.
Speroni has 350 "pts" in EA Sports PPI, Mannone 287.

        Close race.

Also I love how despite another budget keeper success, everyone will still start with next year's DDG/Federici or Mignolet/4.0, whoever it may be 😛
