Gameweek 8 Predictions

After the international break the Premier League is back and with it my regular predictions for the forthcoming set of fixtures, which this week see some easy fixtures on paper for the Premier League’s bigger clubs.Man City vs Spurs

Spurs come into this fixture unbeaten in last four, but they must still have nightmares of last year when they conceded six in the same fixture. There is a key change this season though with Tottenham’s new manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who encourages a more defensive style of play with a strong counter attacking threat. I can see things being more tight this time around.

Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal vs Hull

The score of this fixture does depend on whether Steve Bruce decides to roll out a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2. Though they are more solid at back with the former and likely option, I feel the Gunners have enough firepower to easily win the match. Interestingly, Hull are have conceded the most Shots in Box (69) in the Premier League this season.

Prediction: 2-0

Burnley vs West Ham

West Ham have given a good account of themselves this season, playing some really attacking football. On the other hand, things aren’t so rosy for Sean Dyche’s side who have looked clueless in the  final third. I think Burnley will keep it tight, and unless there is a early goal in the game, it will be a scrappy draw. Crossing will be key to this encounter; Burnley have conceded  the most crosses from left in the Premier League this season, while West Ham have attempted the most crosses from right.

Prediction: 1-1

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

The present league leaders would have earmarked this game as a chance for revenge as it was this fixture last year that resulted in Chelsea loosing their grasp on the Premier League title.  With their defensively minded former manager Tony Pulis no longer around, I can’t see the Eagles getting a comforting result. This should be an easy win for the blues.

Prediction: 0-2

Everton vs Aston Villa

With a horrendous run of fixtures over for the Toffees, Martinez will be hoping they start putting some momentum and points on board. Villa on the other hand are suffering from their own horrendous run, having been unable to score in last three matches. With Christian Benteke back in the Villa side, they will be hoping the Everton defence has another bad day at the office. Everton in turn might find it difficult to break a stubborn Villain defence. It is worth noting that Villa  have attempted the least shots (52) in the league, which gives those that have drafted in Leighton Baines this week hope of a rare Everton clean sheet.

Prediction: 2-0

Newcastle vs Leicester

This one is really difficult to call, mainly because both the sides are really unpredictable. Still, statistically Magpies should find some joy against a very vulnerable Leicester defence. Also, Leicester have been somewhat lucky with their goals and I can see them regressing a bit.

Prediction: 2-0

Southampton vs Sunderland

Fortunes of the both teams changed last weeks with high flying Saints brought back to earth by Spurs and Sunderland making short work of Stoke. Still, I feel we’ll go back to normal this week. Southampton have posted some really good numbers and it is no fluke that they sit third in the Premier League. With fixtures on their side, their lofty position looks set to continue.

Prediction: 2-0

QPR vs Liverpool

QPR have looked like the side that should probably get relegated. Having been unable to use their easy games to gain some points, they now face an uphill task. Liverpool in turn have looked nothing like the side which contested for title last year. Still with Daniel Sturridge back, Liverpool  should edge this tie against the helpless Rangers on paper. Also Liverpool’s defence has been unlucky to concede in the  last two games.

Prediction: 1-2

Stoke vs Swansea

Stoke haven’t been really been prolific this season, though they are regaining solidarity at home. Swansea on the other hand have performed admirably, but have been overachieving statistically. A solid win for Stoke at home is what I am going for.

Prediction: 1-0

West Brom vs Man Utd

Baggies were favorites for relegation at the start of season. But manager Alan Irvine has steadied the ship and they are now looking a  more solid side. As for the Red Devils, they will be hoping to get their first away win of the season. I have observed that Manchester United performances run out of steam in the latter part of the game (which is evident, given they are yet to score after 61st minute). An early goal blitz will be crucial if Manchester United are to win this tie.

Prediction: 1-2

I really think Southampton will win 8-0 with Tadic scoring 1 and getting 4 assist also I can see Man City winning 4-1 with Augero scoring all 4 and missing a pen
