Having previously assessed the form of forwards and midfielders across the last four Gameweeks, our third Key Performance Indicator (KPI) article of the international break casts an eye over the defenders.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables use a series of key stats to allow our members to track a trend in player performance as a guide to their form. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics, such as minutes per chance, and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain patterns of improvement or decline in these areas. For those unfamiliar, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

    I guess the safe option this week is Hutton to Yun for me. Shave a few quid off of my cheapest defender and presents me with a decentish defensive option for a few weeks. As much as I want to make transfers further forward my defence is probably the weakest part.

        It is. But Yun is fit and has some immediate decent fixtures. My defence is looking poor this week so trying to get someone in. Not sure who is best mind

    Thoughts?

    Thinking Sakho----->Austin if he's ruled out...or Marney---->Walters and bench Sakho this week.

    Foster
    Bertrand Baines Duff (Chester, Wisdom)
    Di Maria Sanchez Downing Hazard(VC) ( Marney)
    Sakho Pelle Aguero(C)

    Cheers 🙂

      Seems familiar, no Costa, but a lot of ADM/Baines/Sakho. I have no idea what to do.

      Maybe you can do Sakho->Austin since you have Downing, and hope for recovery for Baines and ADM.

    B: Play wildcard

    Rest of the team:

    Currently

    Forster Guzan
    Bertrand Wilson n.taylor chambers Duff
    Hazard Sanchez Chadli downing boyd
    Aguero Costa Pelle

    Wasn't going to do a transfer this week but next week I was thinking Hazard and Pelle > Rooney and Sigurdsen for next week
    Any thoughts?

    Thoughts on this team?

    McCarthy Foster
    Baines Clyne Chambers Hutton Moore
    Fabregas Di Maria Mane Downing Boyd
    Aguero Costa Pelle
    1FT, 0.2m itb.

    First preference would be to save FT. Risk it despite all doubts and poor fixtures(Chambers and Foster). Planning Mane+Pelle>>Walcott+Austin/Sakho for free next week.
    But if there are any obvious transfer, please let me know.

    Thanks.

  8. Mak_Gold

    A) Di Maria -> Sanchez, Mannone -> 4.0 GK
    B) Fabregas -> Sanchez, Baines -> Azpilicueta
    C) Fabregas -> Sanchez, Pelle -> Austin (if Baines is fit)
    D) Fabregas -> Sanchez, Di Maria -> Hazard, Baines -> Azpilicueta for a -4 hit

    Krul,
    Baines, Clyne, Chambers,
    Fabregas, Di Maria, Downing, Sigurdsson,
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle.

    Subs: Mannone, Boyd, Wisdom, N. Taylor.

    2 FTs, £0.6m ITB.

    Just flicked back a few pages and read Bsloebadgers post about Costa vs fatter CB's which I thought was excellent and exactly the sort of thing that makes FFS the home of FFSers. (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2014/11/19/kpi-analysis-defenders-last-four-gameweeks/?hc_page=7#hc_comment_8853540).

    To build on that priceless and mathematically-apt piece of analysis it I decided to look at how heavy around the waist CB's are in games coming up after WBA as well. Also, for any yanks out there be reminded that your system of measurement is ridiculous, and I've used meters purposefully to confuse you 😀

    WBA:
    Lescott 1.89m 82kg
    Dawson 1.88m 85kg

    SUN:
    O'Shea 1.91m 75kg
    Brown 1.85m 77kg

    TOT:
    Kaboul: 1.90m 87kg
    Vertonghen 1.89m 79kg
    Fazio 1.90m 90kg

    NEW:
    Coloccini 1.84m 84kg
    Taylor: 1.86m 91kg
    Williamson 1.94m 94kg

    HUL:
    Dawson 1.89m 79kg
    Davies 1.88m 76kg
    Chester : 1.77m 75kg

    Looking at those numbers, I'd say Sunderland and Hull's nutritionist has done the best job of keeping his clients slim and ready to be pushed around by Costa. That being the case, hopefully he gets that 5th YC vs WBA 😉

        Haha, it wasn't my theory so I'm not sure I completely agree with it, but it is funny to consider anyhow given the Dunne/Skrtel examples Bsloebadger gave. Skrtel had Costa in his pocket in the Slovakia-Spain game as well (which Slovakia won 2-1), so it was hardly a one-off. Might be something in this... though I suspect Spurs might need a couple of sumo wrestling champions at CB if they are to stand a chance the way they're playing! 😉

          I think it has more to do with Costa on the road to regaining form and sharpness than anything else. Looking at the teams he did well against, there ain't a huge difference in size between the CBs.

          A couple of inches and a bit if extra girth surely can't make that much of a difference, can it ? 😀

      Fixtures do look good on paper, so I'd probably say around 6th. Southampton are bound to drop points, as are West Ham. United's and Everton's defenses are crippled atm as well fwiw, so its hardly like Liverpool are the only team faltering.

        I'm interested more in his affect on Sterling's confidence and performance.
        I think you're right though.

        The days of S&S attack strength may be over.

    Made my transfers and ended up with this..

    Forster (avl)

    Baines (WHU) - Chambers (MUN) - Clichy (SWA)

    Haz (WBA) - Barkley (WHU) - ADM (ars) - Sissoko (QPR)

    Aguero (SWA) - Diego Costa (WBA) - Austin (new)

    Marney - Wisdom - Bartley

    pretty happy with that 😀

    Currently on WC and 0.3m itb:

    Krul (Elliot)
    Baines - Clyne - Yun (Wisdom - Duff)
    Siggy - Hazard - Sanchez - Downing (Wanyama)
    Aguero - Costa - Austin

    Good to go or changes?

    Changes im thinking about is Krul and/or try to do clyne->azpi

    Cheers

      I'm on the WC as well. I've gone for Guzan/Given over Krul/Elliot due to fixtures.

      I downgraded to Oscar for my chelsea midfielder and that funded Chadli as the fifth mid and Azpi to accompany Clyne and Baines in defence. Otherwise we are pretty much the same.

    How about this for a plan?

    (1) Baines gets ruled out this w/e

    GW12: Baines -> Terry
    GW13: Chadli & Pelle -> either a) Boyd/Dyer & Rooney, or b) ADM/Wally & Austin

    (2) Baines is not ruled out this w/e

    GW12: Hutton & Pelle -> Terry & Austin
    GW13: Chadli -> Downing (or save)

    Bank 0.0m, 2 freebies

    Krul, Elliot
    Baines, Chambers, Wisdom, Hutton, Yun
    Sanchez, Hazard, Chadli, Siggy, Albrighton
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

      What if Baines is ruled out for just 1 week? No point taking him out

        I kinda think he has to go even if only ruled out for 1 week. He has tot and che in 2 of his next 3 and I don't see many points there.

        With the less volatile prices this season I think you can mix it up a little, so if getting rid this week I would likely bring him back after the mcy game and only lose 0.1m or maybe 0.2m in value, which is bearable

      Irrespective of Baines Injury the second plan looks good...and you can easily save in GW13..Chadli is in fine form...1 also looks good but why do you want to remove Chadli in both situations? in second situation you can change Albrighton (who doesn't get any game time) to someone else..to have a playing bench player

    I can do Pelle + Silva --> Austin // Ings(Yes I'm Considering him) // Berahino + Sanchez

    but would seem quite sideways...

    I am thinking to do Silva --> either Sterling or Siggy...I think Sterling's good run will start now..

            I know..that's what I fear..will just wait for the presser and make the switch I guess...can take a safe punt on Ings..not having Sanchez would itself become a dangerous punt...

      Tricky position - with Sturridge out I'm not so sure on Sterling, and Siggy has a tough fixture this week.

      Can you afford Berty & Silva -> Yun & Sanchez?

          Ings would be a great differential if he came good. Looked decent for the U21s the other night and grabbed a couple of goals I believe. It's just whether you trust Burnley as an attacking force I guess.

          Thoughts on my above plan?

    4. Shifty
      • 13 Years
      11 years, 8 months ago

      Burnley just don't score enough goals to even think about Ings.

      There are punts and there are bad decisions. Ings falls squarely in the latter zone 🙂

      Austin + Sanchez to play the form card.

      Berahino i'm not sold. Talented, but think WBA overperformed during that run of goals.
