KPI Analysis – Midfielders, Last Four Gameweeks

We turn our attentions to the player Key Performance Indicator (KPI) statistics once again in our latest members’ article. Having assessed the form of Forwards over the last four Gameweeks compared to the first seven rounds of fixtures late last week, we now turn our attentions to the men in midfield.

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables use a series of key stats to allow our members to track a trend in player performance as a guide to their form. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics, such as minutes per chance, and comparing them over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain patterns of improvement or decline in these areas. For those unfamiliar, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

    testing 1 2 3 😛

    ....

    Chelsea back four last year:

    Sun 1st Dec - Southampton (h): --- Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi
    Wed 4th Dec - Sunderland (a):----- Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi
    Sat 7th Dec - Stoke (a): -------------- Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi
    Wed 11th Dec - Steaua (h) (CL):--- Ivanovic - Luiz - Terry - Cole
    Sat 14th Dec - Crystal Palace (h):-- Ivanovic - Luiz - Terry - Azpi
    Tue 17th Dec - Sun’lnd (a) (COC):-- Azpi - Luiz - Cahill - Cole
    Mon 23rd Dec - Arsenal (a): -------- Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi
    Thu 26th Dec - Swansea (h): -------- Ivanovic - Luiz - Terry - Cole
    Sun 29th Dec - Liverpool (h):-------- Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi
    Wed 1st Dec - Southampton (a):--- Azpi - Cahill - Terry - Cole
    (Ivanovic injured vs Liv)

    Summary:
Terry - played every game, except Capital One Cup rest
Cahill - played every tricky fixture, partial rotation with Luiz
Ivanovic - like Terry, played every game, except COC rest - except when inj.
Azpi - played all Prem games and rest in the cups - *except for Boxing Day rest*

    This season:
PL - It’s been Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi whenever available (Azpi banned for 2)
CL - Ivanovic, Terry and Felipe Luis have played all four. Cahill has been rotated with Zouma, Azpi has played no CL games.
COC - Weakened teams. Zouma-Cahill-Luis have played both. Azpi played one, and banned for the other. Christensen played in his place.

    December fixtures:
    TOT / new / Sporting Lisbon(h) / HUL / Derby(a) / sto / WHM / sot / tot

Based on the above, I’d predict Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Azpi to play all Premier League games. Luis can continue to be given game time in the cups, and I see the Christmas fixtures to be difficult enough for Mourinho to keep his back four stabled.

Last season, Azpi and Cahill were both benched for Swansea on Boxing Day. However, this was sandwiched between two big games (ars/LIV). This season, WHM is tricky enough not to take risks, but there are no major games across this period.

    Tl;dr - Azpi’s worth the risk.

Think it's more wishful thinking that the cheapest of the starting Chelsea defence will start all the FPL games when last year after 5 games in 10 days to end November/start December he was limited to every other game last year (except when injury forced him to play New Year's Day) 😉

This was just a test post on an old article to test the formatting btw! 😛

But I think you need to look past the numbers...

Imagine having a team like this

    DDG

    Baines, Colo, Wisdom, Chambers, Naylor

    ADM, Fabregas, Tadic, Henderson, Obertan

    Welbeck, Sturridge, Dzeko
