With European football back on the agenda, we’re joining forces with The Sun once again to announce a brand new game for Fantasy managers. The Sun’s Dream Team Europe (DTE) covers the knockout stages of both the Champions League and Europa League and gets underway this Tuesday, running all the way up until the Berlin Champions League final on Saturday June 6.

There’s a total of £50,000 in the prizes to give over the course of the DTE game – by far the biggest pot on offer in a European Fantasy Football game. The winner takes home a cool £25,000, with the runner-up consoling themselves with a cheque for £7,500. Indeed, finish in the top ten and you’ll be sure to be in the money. With £2,000 pay-outs also on offer for the winner of each of the four phases over the tournament, there’s plenty of opportunities to benefit from The Sun’s generosity.

Ways To Play

To stand the best chance of winning, Fantasy managers need to enter their teams prior to 7.45pm on Tuesday, when Paris St Germain host Chelsea and Shakhtar entertain Bayern Munich, though you can still enter into the DTE game after those kick offs.

You can pick a team for free and compete for the full £50,000 in prizes, though you need to enter payment details to sign up to Sun+ on a free one-month trial in order to access the game. You can, however, cancel the Sun+ at any point.

If you opt to back your European know-how, you can grab a Premium Package – this gives you five teams for £9.99 and comes with three months of Sun+ and a free £20 Amazon voucher. To get involved, click here.

The Ruleset

The basic ruleset remains very straightforward. Each team must consist of XI players, with Fantasy managers handed a budget of £50m to assemble their selection in either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation.

Players score points from the Champions League and Europa League matches and bearing in mind we’re now down to the knockout stages, it’s perhaps wise to avoid those budget picks from outsiders who are likely to be eliminated by the big boys, forcing you into early tinkering.

Like the main Dream Team game, goals and clean sheets are the major source of points. Assists count for nothing although Dream Team has its own “Bonus Point” scoring system in the shape of the “Star Man” award, which is basically man of the match and earns 5 extra points, while all players who earn 7 or more in The Sun player ratings in a match pick up another 3 points. For a full breakdown of the rules, click here.

Transfers

The DTE offers Fantasy managers a total of 20 transfers over the course of the game, though there are limitations as to how many we can use during each stage. We can make eight of their trades overs Phases 1 and 2, with a further 12 available for Phases 3 and 4, allowing us to restructure as the competitions unfold. There’s no roll over of transfers from Phases 1 and 2, though, so you need to use them or lose them.

The breakdown of the Phases are as follows:

Phase 1: February 17 -26, which takes in the first leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the 16 Europa League last 32 matches.

Phase 2: March 10 -19, which takes in the second leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the eight Europa League last 16 matches.

Phase 3: April 14-23, which takes in both legs of the Champions League and Europa League Quarter-Finals.

Phase 4: May 5 – June 6, which takes in the Semi-Finals and Finals of both the Champions League and Europa League.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

We’ve opened up a League for the Fantasy Football Scout community and The Sun have kindly put up £200 for the winner. To enter, register your team, click on Leagues and use the league PIN 8319836 to get involved.

So am I reading this right?

The ideal scenario is to own 2 chelsea (Lets say Terry and Haz) and 1 Spurs (Kane) and save the FT this week.
Next week bench those 3, and use a FT wherever you want.
Take a -4 to bring in 3 more players (2 spurs and 1 chelsea) to max out on the 2 teams?

    Or am I wrong.

WC still intact....... so when do you use that?!

That's exactly what I'm doing. Although I may save the hit and just have 5 dgw players, too many not sure of getting both games

Right. But bring only 2 players, no hits

Two games? I'd have thought a hit or two was worth the gamble for DGWers. Assuming you're happy to keep for a week or two afterwards at least.

Have you tried it? It's not easy as as the best FPL options are either very expensive or not sure of two games

            Who would you get?

            Rose/Vertonghen?
            Kane ofc, and Eriksen?

            Haz/Terry/Costa combo?

Can't afford Costa unless lose Aguero. Have Kane, Hazard and Terry now, may do Walcott and ADM to Fabregas and Eriksen

I thought this. Surely it's only a -2 as the player you take a hit for you'd hope plays both games.

Is the chelsea 2nd game against Leic if confirmed for GW28?
Sorry for all the questions, not been wanting a headache tbh.

Have you actually considered who will likely get two games though? The likes of Chadli, Rose, Zouma, Oscar, Azpi may not and the certs are so expensive you would have to sell other big priced players to get them

Possibly, but I have a £ H2H ML which has play-offs. So given that my overall rank is pants, using it in the last couple of weeks might make sense.
1st and 2nd £80-£40 not much but it would pay for the end of season dinner.

      OK thanks both.

So what are the other potential DGWs that are WC worthy.

And it's best to use WC on getting a normal team post DGW right as getting a team for this DGW is easy enough for everyone.

It might depend how much warning you get for the DGW. If it was due to power failure or the like, it could be just one week.

I think the ideal scenario is already have a team of 11 ready for next week, then use 2 FTs to bring in players with a DGW. I wouldn't take the hit if it meant bringing in a Spurs defender. Ideally you want to have Costa, Kane, Eriksen, Hazard, and Terry/Ivan -- those are the big returners without much rotation risk. Maybe Oscar if you don't have to take a hit for him

Don't really get these Sun games.. I'm all for playing as many games as possible but if you're going to do a 'Europe' game then what is the point in having half the players that are likely to be scoring points not in the game?!

Just as a quick example starting at the top of the alphabet.. Having NO Ajax defenders to pick from at all as well as not including their top European goalscorer so far is a pretty bad start.. Takes away a bit of the fun of being able to find obscure players that end up doing well when they're just not included in the game.

Normal 4-2-2-2 in most home games, but can see him being on the bench a fair bit in the 4-5-1

Yaya alongside either Fernando's and Nasri, Silva out wide in first formation, with Nasri, Silva and Milner behind Aguero in 2nd formation.

Yep could happen but surely if that's true (Aguero playing 90 in Champions league) then hes getting a max of 60 this week. Maybe Bony will start and Dzeko/Jovetic will come on for Aguero then :/

Well i was all set on Aguero but thinking about it with his dodgy back doubt and the Champions league i cant see him playing more than 60. We all know that could be enough for him to score well though. Hmmm I think Hazard is the way to go, surely he gets 90 regardless?

As far as I remember, there is rule that it should be played at first available date. Obviously teams could offer reasons why this isn't first one, such as foreign friendly game arranged, not enough time to get things in place etc.
Though can't see chelsea wanting to play it on midweek fixture and give themselves three games in a week during Euro run

Clubs that definitely won't have any blanks or DGWs this season (assuming none of the remaining games are postponed due to bad weather):

    Everton
    Burnley
    Swansea
    Man City
    West Ham
    Newcastle
    Stoke

Clubs that could have a blank + a DGW:

Sunderland (if Arsenal reach the FA Cup semis)
Arsenal (if they reach the FA Cup semis)
Man United (if Chelsea reach the FA Cup semis)
Hull (if Liverpool reach the FA Cup semis)
Liverpool (if they reach the FA Cup semis)
Palace (if WBA reach the FA Cup semis)
WBA (if they reach the FA Cup semis)
Aston Villa (if they reach the FA Cup semis)

The Premier League games that clash with the FA Cup semi finals will be moved from GW33 to GW34 (or GW37).

Clubs that will definitely have one blank + DGW:

      Leicester: Blank: GW27, Double: GW28 or GW31
      Spurs blank: GW27, Double: GW28

Clubs that definitely have one blank + DGW and could have 2 blanks + DGWs:

QPR: Blank: GW27, Double: GW28 + if Aston Villa reach the FA Cup semis
Chelsea: Blank: GW27, Double: GW28 or GW31 + if Man United reach the FA Cup semis.

2FTs, fortunately not a lot of issues.

    Panti (Mannone)
    Terry - Clyne - Wollscheid - PVA - Baird
    Sanchez - Cazorla - Hazard - Silva - Boydinho
    Aguero - Giroud - Kane

    0.2itb

Thinking of Baird > Haidara or Bruce and saving the other FT.

    Anyone got any other thoughts?

Hi guys, could use some opinions 🙂 all of these choices involve me having 2 FTs for GW28.

A: Puncheon to Siggy - means I'll be playing PvA and Pants against Man United in GW 27

B: PvA to Wollscheid - means benching puncheon and probably holding on to him until after GW28

C: Save the FT and play one of PVA/Puncheon this week and get rid of one next week.

    1. Mata-Is-The-Juan
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

A--- I'd probably wait till Swansea play Liverpool to see if Siggy is worth getting back. Getting him now will be too soon IMO.

B--- That's hardly an upgrade. Plus, Stoke have to contend with defensive injuries. At least PVA offers the chance for some attacking returns.

C-- I'm leaning towards this. Play PVA and Puncheon to Mane or Eriksen [if you've got the funds] for Spuds DGW.

None seem too pressing in my opinion. I would save the FT. Reason being, if someone gets injured you will have a better chance of replacing them and not taking a hit, especially with teams missing games next week. You may even realise that you want to make a different transfer by the time next week comes that would have a bigger impact. I say wait, since the coming GW with the blanks could be dangerous.

Not being awkward but that is the only time. Unless they say it won't be during that week and will announce when it is to be played at a later date.

Just because Fantasy players want it or don't want it for GW28, will make no difference whatsoever.

Just cracked the top 300, but I'm worried about the next couple of weeks:

    Foster, Myhill
    Terry, Clyne, Wollscheid, PVA, Wisdom
    Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Cazorla, Lucas
    Aguero, Giroud, Kane

    1 FT, 0.1 ITB

Hoping to do Giroud, Cazorla > Costa, Eriksen for GW28, but im worried about fielding only 9 players in GW27. What's my best move this week?

from what i can work out the only options for outstanding chelsea game are
same as spurs on fa cup weekend gw28
      or midweek gw 31

i cant see either of these standing out from other one other than missing gw28 would give chelsea a rest before euro game
