Mondogoal GW27 – Interview With FFS Champion & £30k Contender

Last week’s exclusive Mondogoal Fantasy Football Scout League saw ChrisDAFC clinch top spot and seal qualification to the huge £30k Mondogoal World Championship. Chris saw off Scott964 at the summit of our contest, with contributions from Victor Moses and David Silva key to his victory.

Having won previous qualification contests, Chris now has three entries in Mondogoal’s £30,000 World Championship tournament, with a chance to win the £10,000 top prize on the final day of the season.

There’s still time to book your place. Mondogoal are running six more qualifying contests for this weekend’s fixtures, with £2, £10 and £50 games on offer – all offering a place in the £30k Championship final to their winners.

If you’re looking for tips on forming your lineup, look no further than our interview with ChrisDAFC below and our own squad selection for Gameweek 27.

Interview with ChrisDAFC

FFS: Congratulations on winning the FFS League – we noticed that Victor Moses did the business for you – what was the thinking behind that inspired move?
ChrisDAFC: I remembered his form from earlier in the season before he got injured and, needing a few budget players, I thought he was worth the punt against a poor Villa side.

FFS: We also noted that you blocked out your defence with four Sunderland players – do you regularly pick a team to provide the majority of your rearguard?
ChrisDAFC: For the competitions where there is only one prize, I feel it is advantageous to need only one team to pick up a clean sheet – however when you get it wrong, it really sets the team back!

FFS: You went with 3-4-3 at the weekend – what formation do you prefer when compiling your Mondogoal lineup and why?
ChrisDAFC: I favour the attacking formations, 3-5-2 and 3-4-3, as I find it a lot more fun to back attacking players than having to hope that a player keeps clean sheets.

FFS: How do you normally allocate your spending? Do you fetch in your “must-haves” each week and build around them?
ChrisDAFC: Generally I have a couple of big hitters and then try and find a bargain pick or two to ensure I have the budget.

FFS: Mondogoal’s scoring is quite different to the regular Fantasy Football ruleset – what aspect of the system do you feel is the most vital to master when it comes to deciding team selection?
ChrisDAFC: I feel that ensuring you don’t pick players who concede fouls or pick up yellow cards is crucial to success. Also with the shots on target points, it pays to pick players who are ‘shot-happy’ even if it isn’t to the benefit of their team in the real matches.

FFS: Do you studay any statistical data to help guide your Mondogoal selections?
ChrisDAFC: I generally look at the passes a player makes and the shots on target to help guide me find the good cheap players.

FFS: Do you always ensure you react to team sheets prior to kick-off? If so, how do you best prepare for last-minute changes?
ChrisDAFC: When possible, I check on any team sheets which can be seen before the deadline to make sure that I have the best chance of fielding 11 players, as once one player doesn’t start in your team it greatly sets you back. I generally just make sure that I know which players I may have to alter and then check the team sheets for those specific players.

FFS: You’ve now got three entries in the Mondogoal £30k World Championship. Presumably you’re aiming for more – you must already fancy your chances?
ChrisDAFC: I’m definitely looking forward to the championship weekend with great optimism; however, as Mondogoal have so many competitions with entries to this tournament as the prize, I’m expecting a very fierce battle.

We wish Chris good luck as he flies the flag for the FFS community in the Mondogoal World Championship.

FF Scout Gameweek 27 Picks

mg

With the talent pool limited by Chelsea and Tottenham’s absence, this is a week where we can perhaps allow ourselves some risks.

We’ve shifted to the 3-4-3 and put emphasis on Stoke winning with a clean sheet against Hull at the Britannia, whilst banking on shut-outs for Southampton and Arsenal at home to Everton.

Inspired by ChrisDAFC’s gamble on Victor Moses, we’ve drafted in the much-maligned Fantasy target for our Mondogoal squad, teaming him with a cast of shot-happy midfield options that include Jason Puncheon and the tardy Sadio Mane. Wayne Routledge is our gamble here –he was thrown forward in support of Bafétimbi Gomis in the win over United and we fancy the Swans at Burnley this weekend. Both Routledge and Gomis earn a place in our lineup – with the Clarets’ weakness in the air a factor in the selection of the big French striker.

We’ve pulled few punches elsewhere up front – we’re banking on Wayne Rooney remaining unshackled up front against Sunderland, while City’s desire to close the gap on Chelsea warrants the hefty outlay on Sergio Aguero for Sunday’s clash at Anfield.

Of course, our XI is subject to change: we’ll have access to the teamsheet for the early kick-off at the Britannia prior to the Mondogoal deadline, which may well find us indulging in last minute tinkering.

Get you lineup together and in the hat to take us on. You’ll find the FFS squad in the £2 qualifying contests, whilst we’ve also got an entry in the £5 contest offering a £1000 prize pot. Head on over to Mondogoal to get involved.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    It's too bad that Lukaku can't play Young Boys every GW otherwise he'd be straight in my team.

    Having gone from worrying whether Walcott will start, now I'm more inclined to think that Ozil will be rested....which doesn't really help the numbers side but certainly would make a nice dif.

      Of all the players who played midweek, I agree with you, I think Ozil will be rested.

      Everton will no pushovers, so Sanchez, Rosicky and Walcott behind Giroud, is a real possibility imo.

      No, and it's actually a comment by Ronald Koeman that's made me wary:

      "I watched back the game of Liverpool, and most of the time Liverpool was not defending with three centre-backs, they were defending with five at the back. That’s more difficult."

    2FTs and 0.1 in bank. Team as it stands is pretty threadbare..

    Heaton
    PVA? Clyne Wisdom? Cameron?
    ADM Silva Sanchez Boyd
    Aguero Defoe

    Bench - Panti Terry Hazard Kane

    So it looks like only have 8 possible starters.. The defence needs work so what to do? Cameron has an outside chance of playing so may keep him

    1 - Wisdom--->Dawson (WBA)
    2 - PVA/Wisdom ---> Naughton
    3 - PVA/Wisdom --> Willamson/Haidara
    4 - PVA/Wisdom--->Bruce
    5 - Use the 2FTs
