Premier League 2015/16 Fixtures Announced

The Premier League fixture list for 2015/16 was published this morning at 9am, allowing Fantasy managers an opportunity to start tentatively planning for the season ahead. Behind the scenes, we’ll be working on our fixture tickers throughout the day and aim to get these to you as soon as possible to offer a means of analysis of the opening six Gameweeks and, if you’re a member, the entire season.

Champions Chelsea open their campaign with a home encounter against Swansea before heading to the Etihad in Gameweek 2. Jose Mourinho’s men also square up to Arsenal in the opening six rounds of fixtures, and face trips to West Brom and Everton, in addition to a Stamford Bridge showdown with London neighbours Palace.

Man United take on three of last season’s top six in the first six rounds of fixtures. Louis van Gaal’s side welcome Tottenham and Liverpool to Old Trafford over that period and also pay visit to Southampton, with clashes against Villa, Newcastle and Swansea also on their agenda.

Man City hit the road three times in the first five. Manuel Pellegrini’s men roll up to West Brom, Everton and Palace, and welcome Watford, in addition to the above-mentioned home encounter with Chelsea.

Arsenal entertain West Ham, Liverpool and Stoke at the Emirates in the first six Gameweeks. Arsene Wenger’s men have a couple of London away days – at Palace and Chelsea – as well as a trip to Newcastle over that period.

Liverpool are handed four strong home clashes in the opening seven, as Bournemouth, West Ham, Norwich and Villa make their way to Anfield. Brendan Rodgers’ men have some testing times on the road, though, with visits to Stoke, Arsenal and United pencilled in over that time frame.

Leicester will be confident of continuing the form that clinched their survival last time out. Nigel Pearson’s troops face Sunderland, West Ham, Bournemouth, Villa and Stoke in the first six, with a Gameweek 3 trip to Tottenham looking the most problematic of their early matches.

West Ham begin life under new manager Slaven Bilic with an opening day trip to the Emirates. The Hammers also pay visit to Liverpool and City in the first six rounds of fixtures, though have four kind home clashes in the first seven (LEI, BOU, NEW, NOR) to bolster their appeal.

Crystal Palace are handed a tough start to the new campaign. Granted, the Eagles have Norwich and Villa in their opening three but aside from that, they go up against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the first six Gameweeks.

Over the next few days, we plan to focus on the new schedule in detail. In addition to a couple of “Frisking the Fixtures” articles, we’ll be rolling out a series of articles looking at the best rotation pairs available at the back over the upcoming campaign.

Thanks I posted in the wrong place by accident

        Bournemouth - Watford
        Arsenal - Spurs
        Chelsea - West Ham
        Everton - Liverpool
        Leicester - Swansea
        United - City
        Norwich - Southampton
        Stoke - Palace
        WBA - Villa
        Sunderland - Newcastle

        Several surprises there, was expecting

        Bournemouth - Southampton
        Norwich - Leicester
        Chelsea - Watford
        Swansea - Stoke
        West Ham - Palace

          Stoke - Palace
          Leicester - Swansea
          Norwich - Southampton

Are combinations that don't have the normal geographical relationship. I doubt many of us guest any of them

City really are showing their hand quite early here. Liverpool are definitely going to hold out for more although I did see a report (not sure how accurate or where it was now) that said Liverpool wanted the funds to make other purchases so you never know.

      1. Somalion
        • 14 Years

I'm assuming this is the final bid. First one was £25 million plus £5 million in add ons. They've jumped up quickly. I wonder if Pool will hold out for more though, City are poor negotiators and seem desperate.

As for funds, it tends to happen that way, they spend whatever they earn in the transfer market.

no chance this is the final bid. They have upped their bid by £10mil in less than a week.

That's kinda what I'm saying, I think they just want the deal done and are leaping to their final offer immediately. That doesn't mean Liverpool won't hold out and put the pressure on, though.

Looks like Swansea are the team with the best first half fixtures to rotate with.

SWA/WBA and SWA/WHU have the best chance of bringing in the defensive points.

Surprisingly, NEW/WHU look great as well.

BOU/WBA are another cheap and well rotating pair.

NEW/WHU too risky given new managers.
SWA/WBA could be gold, but then it depends on prices.

Think I'll be looking at whoever pairs best with Sunderland. We'll be solid next year.

Expecting Swansea, WBA and probably West Ham defenders to have stating prices of 5.0+. To expensive for rotaion pairs, unless there's a 4.0 option in the other team ?.

    Stoke - Palace

City and Chelsea first up at the Hawthorns is very offputting. Think I might leave it a few weeks, let the prices drop, and then pounce on the cheapest option when we know Pulis' preferred back four.

I've put an order in for prohibitively high prices - Too many identical teams last season.

There will still be a template whatever the prices are, I'm sure - but it's better if there's the ability to mix things up a little.

      1. Doolittle
        • 11 Years

When prices are released, I'm going to make my team without looking on here, and then see if it still ends up "template". If you construct it while on here, it's almost impossible to avoid having just an amalgamation of everyone else's teams.

Yep, i ended up finding that with transfer decisions. As strong as you think your convictions are, you see the same names over and over again and your mind wanders.

Hence needing to break a break on here around March, and increasing my ranking from 17k to 3k.

We all need a break, don't we! The previous 2 years' mini-league battles had taken it out of me. Imagine finishing 605th and needing Aguero's last minute winner to win your work league. And then Lukaku's hat-trick the year later to beat the same guy.

I did the same thing, after a 296 finish I lost interest the season after, needed a year to take a break and recharge the batteries.

Yeah i read yesterday you mentioned that you learnt to play it for the game it is, rather than getting too intense with it. Last year was my first year back and i took a few more punts with my captain and took a lot of hits towards the end to maximise the DGWs etc. I think i have the balance right now, but that's made easier by leaving the company i used to work for with the competition, so no cash prizes any more.

My main mini-league was abandoned by the organiser, so like you I no longer play for cash prizes, which does make the game more enjoyable I think.

Definitely. When i visit my best mates who i'm in a H2H league with, they literally only care about beating each other that week. If they get 24 but their opponent gets 23, they're over the moon. Easy to lose sight that it's all a bit of fun.

Good stuff. When you choose a transfer do you go with your gut or are you more likely to follow the week's transfer activity? No right or wrong answer, just curious how many times you would expect to deviate away from the popular captain pick or the largest transfers of the week?

Completely impossible, agree. But I don't mind if everyone's squad on here is some combination from a pool of about 40 players - but when it gets down to any 15 out of the same 20 that it gets a bit dull.

So, assuming City pay either £40 million or an even higher amount for Sterling that will make him the most expensive player they've purchased. Must take into account that there's a lot of confusion about Mangala's fee, despite being commonly quoted at £32 million, some places claim £42 million (because of issues with his ownership).

Still, it goes to show how inflation is alive and well in football.

Looking at these fixtures I'm seriously considering a side based around some of the 'lesser teams' for the first 6-7 weeks with a couple of 'big team' players dotted around. Before I was considering doubling up on Chelsea defenders but from this it's probably not worth it until about half-way.

By the way, if anybody saw Norway - Ivory Coast, that Ivory Coast team looked already much better. It's not a crap team. It's a young and inexperienced team, average age just above 20, most do not yet play as professionals, and they play high defence line offside trap tactic, and teams like Germany were always going to exploit that at some point. Against Norway, it worked a pretty long way, but then Norway found their way through it too and won rather comfortably. However, by pace and technique, some of those Ivory Coast players are pretty impressive. Ange Nguessan who scored a screamer was extremely quick of her feet with the ball. She could well get a transfer to some European team, probably to France. Wait to see how she'd do in Europe. Could do very well.

      Her goal here: https://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/video/nguessans-goal-ivory-coast-221243364.html

Although I was more impressed by her dribbles, near to the end of the match she got past 2 or 3 defenders when already inside the box. Unfortunately they wasted that chance.

How has not the Arsenal scouting team spotted Bernd Leno yet?

*One of the best keepers in Germany right now. Their U21 manager thinks ''he is as good as ter-Stegen'', who is one hell of a keeper himself.
*Would not cost too much, not really one of the fashionable keepers.
*Wants to come to England, if it is a top club and he gets to play. Arsenal are the only top English club that needs a good, young, #1 keeper right now.

Also, probably because clubs generally keep a one young/one old keeper combination, Leno would mean Ospina stays. Cech + Szczesny will be the likely combination in the other scenario. Anyway, Ospina's contribution was a lot in the last season, while Szczesny has flattered to deceive for quite a few seasons now.

And knowing Mourinho, who managed to get 50m for Luiz, we would end up paying 15 million for Cech... who maybe has another two years in him?

    Wenger, please make Leno happen!

He is not a prospect. He is one wonderful keeper, and I'd put him in the top 20 right now in the world...

Barcelona bought ter-Stegen, and he was one of the main reasons why they won the CL.

Casillas is an 'established elite keeper', but look at what RM's adamance to play him ahead of Navas did to them this season.

Point about Szczesny is exactly that it's for many seasons now. Anybody who thinks Szczesny's got it thinks of a bit over half a season long since. But the fact that he has never been able to repeat that performance by now is already strong evidence that it was an outlier performance, reflecting not the level he can consistently keep but the best level where he can at best get for short whiles. And that was a level you'd expect your top level GK to keep for most of the time. So, imo, they should really get rid of the lad. He's too arrogant too, one of those who will not be good because they think they already are.

Cech, however has easily 4-5 years in him as a sure value top of the world GK. Arsenal doesn't have shortage of money either. And I'm not that convinced about Leno yet. The coach flatters his team, especially the ones who are not going to play.

      1. Saniul

You never know who has how many years left in him, especially when you're 30+. He could be a Buffon, but he could easily do a Casillas...

        8 years, 10 months ago

And I totally agree with you on Szczesny. Too mistake-prone, can't trust him in big matches.
Ospina is not a top keeper, but atleast he knows his limitations and is much more assured, would be a great #2.

        Just can't see Cech/Ospina as a combination...

I think Ospina is a top level GK in fact. He may not be the greatest and most exciting GK there is, but he doesn't have any real weaknesses either, he is strong in every respect. I like him a lot and don't see any urgency in that regard. However, it is true that there's some distance from him to Courtois, Cech, Lloris or De Gea, maybe not to Hart or Migs though.

Cech has at least 4-5 years in him. He has only turned 33 and 39-40 for a GK isn't shocking.

He is proven, one of the best keepers still in the world, and if Arsenal are getting one of the top 5-7 GKs in the world for 15 million who is well settled in London with Premier League experience of 10 years, I would definitely take him over some Keeper who has potential but is very young.

He's desperate for a move, and for a keeper of his class, he should really be playing week in and out.

If Arsenal don't come in, someone else will. And if no one does, when he's out of contract, at least 10 top clubs would be all over him to get him. The chances of him joining Arsenal would only be narrowed down.

Arsenal need Cech, more than Cech needs Arsenal.

Arsenal need Szczesny out, can't trust him in any game... But if Cech signs, Szczesny will probably stay #2.

We're done with stop-gaps, need to show ambition, sign a top young keeper. Name me one better than Leno, who is likely to leave his club?

Won't be 15 million ffs. They can't possibly get more than 10 million for him. 33-year-old, one year left in contract, wants out. That's not the best position to ask for a greater fee.

I read somewhere that Chelsea want 15 million or they won't sell him... not like they really need money to make some big signing, that is a set squad.

And having Cech in the squad not exactly a bad idea, after all we saw how so many keepers got injured for long periods in the PL.

You could easily look at Casillas and say the other thing...and that came exactly after a stop-start season and an injury and some Mourinho idea to think Diego Lopez was better...
Cech just had a season as a #2 as well.

Have Buffon ever been second-choice for either Italy or Juventus in the last ten years?

Leno turning out to be a pretty bad keeper has more chances than Cech turning into Casillas.

Look at other keepers at around 40. James, Harper last season with Hull, Van Der Saar, Buffon (37).

And we only have one failure named Casillas here.

Nope, looks like you haven't seen enough of Leno yet.
Any player can turn bad in the world. Messi might start playing like Bojan tomorrow. There is no surety about anything.

But if you can sign one of the top five young keepers in the world, you do...

Maybe I am also just biased about Cech for obvious reasons.

Though still, he'd improve the Arsenal defense massively. Is very vocal in organizing defenses.

I've seen rumours about Arsenal being interested but nothing concrete. Agreed though, he'd be a fantastic buy if they could get him on the cheap. Cech still has a few years left, but to get someone with 15 years left at the top would be great for Arsenal.

I haven't seen that much of him, but what I have seen has been mightily impressive, and I've heard great things.

I have heard great things as well, I totally see him or ter-Stegen as one of Neuer's successors in the coming years.

And Leverkusen aren't a club who would hold out for him, they know he will eventually leave.

So it's now confirmed that the FA Cup QFs will take pace on the weekend of 12th March, which will be the same as a scheduled league weekend (unlike last year when the EPL left a weekend free). I'm assuming this will leave GW30 completely decimated, and there will subsequently be a bumper DGW. Just to add some insight into potential WC planning.

Southampton set to finalise £3.5m deal for right-back Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon. Opens way for Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool.

That's a top midfield. You could look at Khalili, 5.5 and fairly attacking.
If you just want someone who is nailed on and plays for a good team, A Christensen for 5.5 and Petrak for 5.0, both are outright DMs.

Most propably my final team, can anyone comment on it?

    Busk / Varela
    Korb / Scholz / Petkovic / Guerreiro / Romagnoli
    Meyer / Silva / Hojberg / Redmond / Krejci
    Volland (C) / Belotti / Berahino

I know that keepers are meh and defence is punty but I'm willing to take risk.
