Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 5 – The Strong

There may be no Premier League action this weekend due to the international break but we’re wasting no time in casting our eye towards Gameweek 5 and beyond. Manchester City and Bournemouth once again feature among the sides who have the most favourable schedules over the next six Gameweeks, while West Ham also have some kind fixtures over the coming period, with our confidence in the Hammers assets on the rise after the comprehensive 3-0 win at Anfield on Saturday.

MANCHESTER CITY

frisking

Manuel Pellegrini’s side couldn’t have made a more impressive start to the campaign, with a 100% record, 10 goals scored and none conceded. They’ve also added Nicolas Otamendi and Kevin de Bruyne to an already strong squad, and have a great run of fixtures (cpl, WHM, tot, NEW, BOU, mun) over the coming month or so.

At the back, Aleksandar Kolarov has emerged as the number one target, with the 5.8-priced defender seemingly assured of a starting berth at left-back because of both his sensational form, and the absence of Gael Clichy through an ankle injury, which is set to keep the former Arsenal defender out for another six weeks. Bacary Sagna (5.1) offers a great short-term option, but he’ll have competition for the right-back position when Pablo Zabaleta returns from a knee injury later this month.

Raheem Sterling (8.9) opened his account for the Citizens against Watford on Saturday, and given Yaya Toure now sets us back the same amount in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), is probably worth further consideration, while David Silva (10.2) should remain a reliable source of steady attacking points having racked up his fourth assist of the campaign against the Hornets. De Bruyne arrives at the Etihad with a big reputation, but his 10.0 price tag may deter any potential suitors until we see how he fits into Pellegrini’s plans.

Sergio Aguero will have disappointed the many Fantasy managers who trusted him with the captain’s armband over the past two weeks, but the 13.2-valued forward will surely find his goal scoring form sooner rather than later.

BOURNEMOUTH

frisking

With the Cherries facing four more favourable fixtures (nor, SUN, sto, WAT) before some tougher match-ups, the likes of Callum Wilson and Simon Francis still look great options for Fantasy managers.

Wilson has scored four goals in his last two appearances, and available at 5.7 in FPL, offers fantastic value and is a great enabler for those premium options such as Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez and David Silva. Max Gradel had started to show real promise over the last two matches, registering three assists, but with the summer signing now sidelined for around six months with a knee injury, the focus from the Bournemouth midfield once again turns to Matt Ritchie. The Scotland international has seen his value fall to 5.8 in FPL after four successive blanks, and perhaps the fact he’s only created four chances shows he’s struggling to make an impact in the top flight. The addition of Glenn Murray (5.8) will further enhance the attacking options available to Eddie Howe, with the former Crystal Palace forward expected to combine with Wilson up front.

While they have yet to register a clean sheet, Bournemouth have conceded exactly one goal in three of their four matches, so a first shut-out shouldn’t be too far away. With a licence to also bomb forward, right-back Francis (4.5) looks the pick of the options at the back, having already notched an assist in the 4-3 win against West Ham. Loan signing Joe Bennett (4.0) could come into contention if both Charlie Daniels and Tyrone Mings are sidelined at left-back.

WEST HAM

frisking

It’s been a topsy turvy start to the campaign for the Hammers, with outstanding wins at Arsenal and Liverpool combined with bitterly disappointing home defeats to Leicester and Bournemouth. With the Gameweek 6 trip to City the only difficult fixture in the next five (NEW, mci, NOR, sun, cpl), the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho certainly look worthy of consideration for the coming period.

Left-back Cresswell (5.5) has bagged assists in his last two appearances, and while Fantasy managers may be wary to invest in the defender until Slaven Bilic’s side perform better at the back in the plum home fixtures, there’s no doubt his attacking potential marks him out from some other defenders with similar price tags.

In midfield, Payet (7.6) has stolen much of the attention with set-piece duties in his locker but with no attacking returns in his last two outings, the pressure will be on the France international to deliver the goods in the coming few matches. Cheikhou Kouyate comes in at a cheaper 5.6 in FPL, and with an ownership of just 4%, looks ripe for investment, having scored twice and provided an assist already this season. Victor Moses (5.3) will be worth monitoring once he returns to full fitness, having joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea, whilst fellow new boy Michail Antonio (6.0) arrives on the back of 14 goals and 12 assists for Forest in last year’s Championship.

Diafra Sakho grabbed his first goal of the campaign in the final stages at Anfield, and while he has disappointed over the first four Gameweeks, only registering one goal and one assist, the 6.5-rated forward still looks a viable mid-price option given the favourable fixture list.

ALSO CONSIDER…

West Brom
The Baggies have the most favourable upcoming schedule (SOT, avl, EVE, cpl, SUN, nor) according to our Season Ticker, and while Tony Pulis’ side isn’t packed full of enticing Fantasy options, there are certainly one or two options worth casting our eye over.

Pulis’ teams are known for the defensive solidarity, so Craig Dawson (5.0) and new signing Jonny Evans (4.8) look strong options at the back, with West Brom already registering two shut-outs this season. Whoever out of Boaz Myhill and Anders Lindegaard (both 4.5) emerges as the first choice goalkeeper in the absence of the injured Ben Foster should also provide a great budget option for Fantasy managers. As shown by our latest Watchlist rankings, we’re backing the Dane to be handed the chance after arriving from United in the last week.

With some rotation concerns among the more attacking options in the Baggies midfield, Salomon Rondon probably offers the best route into the West Brom attack, although at 7.0, the Venezuela international perhaps looks a tad expensive given, with Sakho and Mame Biram Diouf (6.6) perhaps offering better value. Saido Berahino’s future looks uncertain after he vowed never to play under chairman Jeremy Peace in light of his failed transfer to Tottenham.

Swansea
Garry Monk’s side have surprised many with their attacking performances so far and with all seven of their goals scored by either Bafetimbi Gomis or Andre Ayew, it’s clear who we should be targeting. Gomis, now up to 7.4 in FPL, has scored in all four of his appearances, and having found the back of the net against both Chelsea and Man United, has proven himself to be “fixture proof”. Ayew (7.2) has netted three goals and provided one assist, and has the edge over the former Lyon striker in terms of bonus points by six to one. The upcoming fixtures (wat, EVE, sot, TOT, STO, avl) suggest both players should continue to provide great mid-price options for the upcoming period – the pair are the second and third most transferred players in so far this week.

In defence, Kyle Naughton (5.0) looks the primary option, with his attacking raids from right-back giving him the edge over Ashley Williams (also 5.0), who still holds some appeal given his ability to rack of the bonus points when the Swans register a clean sheet. Lukasz Fabianski looks one of the better options available in goal in the 5.0 price bracket.

Norwich
The Canaries suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Southampton on Sunday, but have generally enjoyed a decent start to the campaign. Alex Neil’s men only have one difficult fixture in the next six (BOU, liv, whm, LEI, new, WBA), so the likes of Nathan Redmond, Wes Hoolahan and Russell Martin should continue to provide great value for FPL bosses.

Redmond (5.6) has two goals and an assist to his name so far, and should continue to trouble Premier League defenders, while Hoolahan (5.0) is at the hub of the Norwich side, and should continue to offer a steady return of assists, having already bagged three this season. Robbie Brady (5.5) has already created ten chances, more than both of his fellow midfielders, despite playing at left-back so far this season. Should the Republic of Ireland international be moved further forward when last season’s left-back Martin Olsson returns to full fitness, he could be worth serious consideration. New striker Dieumerci Mbokani (6.0) has a good goal scoring record from his time in Belgium and with Dynamo Kiev, and appears likely to replace Cameron Jerome as the lone striker at Carrow Road.

While the fixtures look favourable for Norwich, clean sheets have so far eluded the Canaries, so although Russell Martin and John Ruddy (both 4.5) offer good value, perhaps we shouldn’t expect too much in terms of defensive returns. Martin does, of course, offer a reasonable threat from set plays, having scored twice already this season, though he has never scored more than three goals in any of his previous three Premier League seasons.

    Hi Guys,

On WC and current draft looks like this:

    Butland Schmeichel
    Azpi Kolarov Gomez Olsson Targett
    Pedro Yaya Mane Ayew Sinclair
    Aguero Gomis Wilson

I have £1.9 ITB and the obvious weakness is the midfield, any suggestions?
Yaya -> Silva, Pedro -> Haz?

Yaya to Silva sounds good. I'd rather go with Pedro than Haz.

Also maybe Azpi to Bellerin and upgrade Targett since he is not nailed.

Gomez, Olsson & targett. You need to rethink this selection, bertrand should be back after the international break, Jonny Evans just signed for WBA. Gomez isn't going to start every game, he struggled badly against West Ham

Yaya to Silva looks good but I feel Targett must be upgraded. You're on a wildcard and Bertrand should be coming back soon. I think that is more pressing than Yaya to Silva.

What I'd love to see is Bayern Munich boycott big name sponsors like Nike and Adidas that outsource most of their manufacturing to countries like this, which creates and shapes the economic situation that these people face today.

But of course it all comes down to money. People will always choose financial gain of human endeavor.

The current refugee crisis has its roots in the middle east not east Asia more to do with crazy fundamentalist nuts dictators and British and American bombs than Nike and Adidas but that don't excuse them what they are doing in sweet shops full of kids is a disgrace.

Or be paid a fair wage. Why should someone in the west be paid more for the same work as someone in the east?

Because companies like Nike and Adidas earn millions and millions every year by cutting their costs of labor by outsourcing it to countries like India, China, etc in the "eastern world"

              E.g.
John earns £10 an hour in England for working at Nike
Wang earns £2 an hour in China working at Nike

Many argue the standard of living is significantly less in these countries so this wage is relatively fair. But the reason the standard of living is lower in these countries is because of years of companies like Nike, Adidas, Sony, etc. that exploit the labor from these people while making record-breaking profits annually because of it. Its not like if they pay their outsource workers the same as people here in the western world that they're going to go bankrupt. It just means they'll make £200mil profit annually instead of £1bil or whatever the figures might be.

it's up to the governments of these countries to protect their people.

Companies will always try and turn as big a profit as possible. thats what business is about.

                  8 years, 7 months ago

But the governments don't. Governments know that these big companies avoid tax and exploit people.

The reason they don't do anything? Pay offs. Politicians curry favor with these companies and banks to the point that the banks and corporations have all of the power and leverage.

Why do you think so many have protested about the economic crash? Here in Ireland, we've had endless protests from austerity to water charges. The banks messed up, and the people are being forced to make up the losses. Governments act as the lapdog to these powers through taxation and cuts.

Yes business is about profit, but there also is business ethics that people seem to ignore when exploiting lesser developed parts of the world, which will never develop at the same rate, because the gap between the east (north) and west (south) is constantly widening from these businesses.

Another side of things. Look at how Walmart have practically wiped out local DIY stores in the US. Their profits are so great that they can charge low prices on things that other competitors cannot afford to match. This results in people saying "Oh the rakes at Walmart are only a dollar, whereas Paul is charging 5 dollars down the road". And the cycle continues until you reach crisis point like we see today

I guess you could argue the problem is that consumers always want everything as cheap as possible. The companies are only giving us what we want in that case right, since if we don't, we'll just buy from next door. forcing each company to either exploit more people or drop off profits until they close.

Immorally earned from years of conquest in countries like the ones these refugees are coming from. It's the least they can do, as a sort of reparation/ compensation for the past.

Just because something brings in money to a country doesn't mean it OUGHT to be the case. But I guess this a different topic altogether 😕

If its hard to work out economically, then why not do the easier societal calculation of whether its fair to have an arbitrary family get the largest house in the capital city and full time security just because they're ancestors said they were the undemocratic rulers?

Exaggeration might help you convince yourself but it doesn't change the reality. The economic downturn, the housing crisis, the problems with the NHS, they are all caused by government policies not a relatively small number of refugees. But it's easy to blame the people that are the weakest and least able to defend themselves.

Not blaming them, to be honest it's probably more the government's fault for giving the money away to lazy, able bodied people.

They're fleeing from some Arab nations, while others are helping at full capacity. The ones they can't help risk their lives to get to Europe or else they starve. Let them live or let them die, not saying right or wrong, there are consequences for both.

I'm all for letting them over here, I don't see why they shouldn't have any less entitlement to Ireland than I do. The problem I feel is that people are too concerned with ownership. "My land". "My country".

Might sound a bit naive and very 60s, but we're all on the same planet, let's just all learn to cooperate and share, we're all going to be in the ground sooner or later anyway.

Letting them in isn't enough though. Governments have to come together and look at the reasons WHY this is happening. And in my opinion, it all comes down to complacency and lack of regulation. Big companies exploit the labor of these people and it's no wonder that the economies go so top heavy. When the western world goes too far right-wing, the whole lot tips over.

I usually appreciate your opinion, and I used to be of your opinion. I share your opinion regarding those migrating for purely economic reasons.

We're talking about people from Eritrea, Libya, Sryia and Somalia mainly. Please don't confuse refugees with economic migrants. Genuine refugees deserve help. I agree that Middle Eastern countries like UAE should be involved too.

All of these people have to be taken to land safely and processed fairly. We should accept that it could be tens of millions entering Europe and distribute them fairly.

The system is broken (large processing centre needs to be built, transport and co-operation from all landing countries, quick turnaround) and it's sickening that more isn't being done to help stranded people at sea. A lot is being done, but not enough. Hungary's stance today summed it up.

I share your sentiments to a degree . However the only way to really address the problem is at source in all the affected counties . The refugees/migrants or whatever, that are presently trying to gain refuge are a very small tip of an incredibly large iceberg.

Welcoming in hundreds of thousands , does nothing for the many millions that are suffering in these rogue nations across Africa and the Middle East.

How to address though , is another story , which I have yet to read

The two are not mutually exclusive though. Of course it would be best to fix things at the source, but that won't happen, at least not for an awfully long time. That does not mean that, before then, we should just do nothing to help!

Well Googled, but there is zero proof there connecting those weapons with Assad.

The rebels had far more to gain through the discovery of chemical weapons than Assad did. Now I'm not claiming it was conclusively proven to be the rebels, I'm saying there was no way it was conclusively proven to be Assad.

The weapons were sold to them ye should know after all ye sold them to the Syrian state and if they have lost control of them where are they going to turn up next maybe the London underground?

There should have been a auto response by Nato the second there was proof of these type of weapons being used as in boots on the ground and clean up the mess they helped to create by selling these bastards the weapons in the 1st place

Our weapons exporting is shameful, I completely agree. But selling weapons to someone doesn't give you a license to then invade them to clean up your mess. Governments would be manipulating wars all around the world if so.

Its not a right its humanity's duty to stamp out this kinda thing where ever it pops up that is why they entered convention in the 1st place but it looks if those hard learned lessons have been forgotten

Sadly our government is only interested in that convention if it can be used to justify its goals.

Their goal was to overthrow Assad - and when they couldn't prove the link between Assad and the chemical weapons in order to justify getting involved - it was no longer important. Unfortunately humanitarian goals are not our government's top priority, and are barely a priority at all. It's depressing.

Really saddened by the stuff I've read on here.

People are confusing economic migrants with genuine refugees - people looking for a better job confused with people who are escaping war or persecution. How you can say that we don't have space, that we can't help people escape these atrocities, is beyond me. These people are so desperate that they are willing to risk their lives, taking bizarre and dangerous methods of transport. They are happy to confront the risk of dying because they perceive it to be an inevitability if they stay. If we can't help them, what is the point?

The inconvenience of a population change, and the demand on public services/housing, is far outweighed by our moral obligation to provide refuge for people escaping from cruelty, persecution or death.

Obviously uncertainties about keeper choice at both West Brom and United but would ideally like defensive cover for both. Could swap Myhill for Lindegaard if needed.

I have Myhill and Shaw, with 0.1m in the bank and McCarthy as second keeper. I'm planning to free up 0.4m to get Lindgaard in for McCarthy and then I don't have to worry until Foster is back... Still only 9.0m on keepers and you can play very week with confidence now that they have played City and Chelsea.

Sometimes I start looking at stats and time get's away from me, hours can pass by and meals are missed. It's far too addictive.

what would the top 4 positions be if with the current squads, Brendan managed arsenal, Arsene managed Utd, Van gaal managed Chelsea and Jose managed Liverpool?

They'd all be in complete chaos, there'd be uproar from fans and players across the board! City would walk the league in any case, I don't think the order would change much as there wouldn't be much time for anyone to implement their ideas.

Top 4...surely you mean 2-5 (No Man City) 🙂

Where's Man City? I would still give them the first place even if Pellegrini is replaced by Mr.Dick!

      Else it should be;
      2. Liverpool (good players but play crap, Mou would put them right)
      3. Chelsea
      4. Utd
      5. Arsenal (coz Brendan would play Kosc on RB and Bellerin in MID)

Thoughts? 2 FTs and 0.0 ITB. Not sure what to do, maybe improve my back line?

    Hart
    Darmian / Richards / Williams
    Sanchez / Payet / Toure / Ayew
    Pelle / Aguero (C) / Diouf

    McCarthy -- Hoolahan, Targett, Muniesa

Pelle out - Wilson in, then you'll have some alternatives:
      1. Pedro for Payet
      2. Mahrez for Hoolahan
      3. Bertrand for Targett

      Not tempting enough for you?

If De Gea returns to the lineup will that improve Utd's defence, or will he be out of sorts??

      Depends on his form.
He was indeed the major factor which ended ManUtd to the top four last year.

Of course they will improve. He's the best goalie in the league.
Romero single handedly lost the last game for them so with DDG back I could see even more cleanies coming their way. I will definately be looking into some defensive cover from ManUtd.

Hey lads, anyway to improve my squad over the coming gw's?

    Schmeichel Rudd
    Azpi Clyne Sagna Francis Mariappa
    Pedro Silva Mahrez Depay Wanyama
    Benteke Aguero Deeney

    Haven't used my WC
    OFT
    0.8 ITB
    Thanks!

Is that really a WC team?
      Wanyama? Depay? Deeney? WHYY??

In MID, I think Westwood is a better option to Wanyama, who want a way out of the club!
Depay still hasn't find his feet and can wait. There're so many in form midfielders out there.
As for Deeney, he is yet to score and with the defensive line up of Watford, I'd prefer going for Wilson!
Benteke is a bargain also, with LFC not finding the way to get him in scoring position.

Who is the best DEF option in the 4.5 bracket?
Need an attacking minded DEF, with CS potential to replace Mertz in my team.

    I was thinking of;
    1) Francis (nice attacking return + favourable fixtures)
    2) Ward (Good option but unfavourable CS fixtures)
    3) Martin (Good going forward but CS seem quite difficult)
    4) Nyom (watford look tight in defense)
    5) 0ther option

      Muniesa (maaaybe)
Stoke have some good decent fixtures coming up although they don't seem to be able to keep a CS.

Jose Mourinho has his name entered into the 2016 version of the Guinness Book of Records..
Quiet a feat for a Manager!

    https://twitter.com/ChelseaFC/status/639689723750031360/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

The coach was handed the record for the longest unbeaten home run by a manager, with his nine-year stretch covering 151 games across his time in charge of the four clubs.

Having led Porto and Inter to European glory, he also enters the record books as one of only five coaches to have won the Champions League with different clubs; and at 49 years and 12 days old Mourinho became the youngest manager to reach 100 Champions League matches.

The Portuguese coach collected the most points in a Premier League season when he racked up 95 with Chelsea as they won the 2004-05 title; and he also picked up the award for most games unbeaten at home in the Premier League, which spanned both spells at Stamford Bridge.
