Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Saturday

Fantasy aficionados have five early-afternoon kick-offs to assess, with Manchester City’s home tie against Newcastle United harbouring the potential to delight and disappoint in equal measures.

The Sky Blues are reeling off the back of two straight defeats, having shipped four goals at White Hart Lane last weekend. Nonetheless, no side has fashioned more shots on target (52) than the Manuel Pellegrini’s troops, encouraging many managers to double up on their attacking recruits. As for the Magpies, they’ve failed to score a single goal on their travels, which bodes well for the hosts’ clean-sheet prospects. Moreover, Newcastle rank bottom for attempts (25), shots inside the box (12) and on target (six) in away fixtures.

Norwich City welcome a Leicester City outfit that suffered just their second league defeat in 16 outings last weekend. Considering that neither side has recorded a clean sheet, a goalless draw doesn’t look to be on the cards. The Foxes ranked second for goals scored (seven) over the last three Gameweeks but also shipped two more goals (nine) than any team in the league. The Canaries, meanwhile, have conceded the second most big chances (16) across the whole campaign, revealing their frailties at the back.

Sunderland go in search of their first victory this term as they lock horns with West Ham United at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats haven’t scored since a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in Gameweek 4, underlining their recent impotence in the final third. Those managers in possession of Hammers players will be emboldened in the knowledge that only Crystal Palace (72) have conceded more shots inside the box (70) than Sunderland, while no outfit has conceded more goals (16) than the Wearsiders.

Elsewhere across the three o’clock kick-offs, Bournemouth look to prove they still pack a punch in the absence of Callum Wilson as they play host to Watford and Aston Villa will strive to arrest a three-match losing streak when Stoke City – who carded their first win of the season last Gameweek – make the trip to the West Midlands.

        I'm considering doing Silva > KDB. If you're getting in one of them, it has to be the latter. Silva's a magician but KDB's a better fantasy prospect

    Leader of one of my mini leagues didn't have a single player on the pitch today from first XI (partially down to Mahrez but still). Going to have to be a hell of a sunday if he's going to hold onto top spot!

    The Chelsea bench isn't looking overly strong, surely Pedro got to come on at some point.

    Considering two moves to get KDB in, which is better in your view?

    a) Wilson, Mahrez & Barkley -> Ighalo, KDB & Wanyama (-8)
    b) Mane & Mahrez -> KDB & Alli (-4) - keep Wilson 1 more week

      The obvious one with Wilson

    Stunning to hear so many people dropping Mahrez so quickly.
    The guy's form has been astonishing this year and any niggle will doubtless be fixed after the break, also they've proven they can score against anyone and Spurs, Palace and West Brom aren't unbeatable.

          Well played sir. You won't get a better outcome from playing the triple capt this season unless I'm a DGW.

              I thought about holding for a DGW but no guarantee on full match play during a double. Plus with City and Newcastle heading in opposite directions, return of Silva and excellent form of KDB, I thought Aguerro would get his due.

        Just did a -8 😐 crossing fingers. Had to get rid of Lovren, wanted KdB.

        Lovren -> Alderweireld
        Redmond -> drinkwater
        Pedro -> KdB

        Im Satisfied!

        For the first time this season, not only have I had a good week so far (will be 95pts inc BAP + Sanchez, Martial & Damian to play) but I also have no issues to transfer out. Only if there are any injuries etc from internationals. I hope everyone else has had some luck today (but not as much as me ! 😉

        Myhill (Schmeichel)
        Damian, Kolorov, Cresswell, (Tragett, Hangeland)
        Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez (Westwood)
        Captain Kun, Vardy, Matial
