We take our regular trip to the Weekly Shop this evening, assessing the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

In six league matches at Old Trafford this season, United have conceded just once and Louis Van Gaal’s defence looks set to continue that resilient run with the visit of a blunted West Ham. David De Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, PremierPunt 8.2m) is certain to start and requires less outlay than the Red Devils’ only other guaranteed backline regular Chris Smalling (FantasyBet 6m, PremierPunt 9.5m).

Against Swansea, Liverpool picked up a second clean sheet in six league outings under Jurgen Klopp last weekend. After selecting Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7m) in the Poundstretchers category, we hand the Spaniard a promotion this time around on the back of his maximum bonus haul against Garry Monk’s men. With a trip to struggling Newcastle up next, Moreno’s raids down the flank could finally come to fruition as he looks to add to a single assist so far.

Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, PremierPunt 11.6m) looked lively in the defeat at the Etihad and created the Saints’ consolation in a 3-1 loss. The Senegalese midfielder has three goals and six assists this season and, having netted against Liverpool this evening, may well add to that tally with Aston Villa visiting St Mary’s. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, PremierPunt 10.4m) is a viable alternative – the Serb comes in cheaper than his team-mate and is currently leading on overall points.

Romelu Lukaku (FantasyBet 8m, PremierPunt 12.1m) has been labelled as inconsistent in the past but five goals in four shows the Belgian is almost indispensable at the moment. The Capital One Cup clash with Middlesbrough, who conceded for the first time in seven matches at the Riverside, demonstrated that Lukaku’s flourishing understanding with Gerard Deulofeu (FantasyBet 6.5m, PremierPunt Forward 9.5m) has even made doubling-up on the Toffees’ attacking assets against Crystal Palace an enticing option.

Poundstretchers

Aston Villa have scored just once in their last three away trips, so investment in Southampton’s defence looks to offer value this weekend – in spite of this evening’s 6-1 home hammering at the hands of Liverpool. The cheapest route into the Saints backline is keeper Maarten Stekelenburg (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.8m), who has made 12 saves over the last four Gameweeks.

Watford have been defensively impressive in front of their own fans this season, keeping four clean sheets in seven home encounters. Given that only Arsenal, Manchester United and Palace have scored at Vicarage Road, visitors Norwich could struggle to make a breakthrough and we call upon Nathan Ake (FantasyBet 4.5m, PremierPunt 6.4m) as our preferred pick – the left-back gets forward more than the other Hornets defenders and picked up an assist in the recent home clash with West Ham.

Arsenal’s injury crisis could see Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (FantasyBet 6m, PremierPunt 8.4m) handed a start at home to Sunderland this weekend. With Mesut Ozil in such fine form, the former Southampton wide man could get amongst the points if the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla are indeed ruled out. Another budget friendly midfielder from a top-team is Dele Alli (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 7.3m). Back in contention for Tottenham’s trip to West Brom after serving a one-match suspension last weekend, he offers a cut-price route into an attack that had scored thirteen times in the last four Gameweeks.

It’s difficult to look past Watford for cut-price forward options. We highlighted Odion Ighalo’s (FantasyBet 5m, PremierPunt 8m) record last week and the Nigerian duly delivered with a goal and an assist. Strike partner Troy Deeney (FantasyBet 5.5m, PremierPunt 8m) has quietly been on a scoring run himself and, having netted in four in the last five, he offers an in-form option for the visit of Norwich.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

The difference between getting Hazard or Coutinho/ Mane / Bolasie is
getting Hazard this week stops me going Vardy > Kane next for the Newcastle game.

If I got Haz I could always drop Aguero for Kane.

I would go for mid-price midfielder. Vardy has tricky fixtures, so I doubt he will score many pts.

This GW all comes down to fitness of Aguero Coutinho & Lingard! I really hope the first two are good to go. Lingard 5th midfielder.

Weighing in on the hazard vs non hazard debate, I'd like to think its more about 2 factors
1- as many budget players have performed exceedingly well, so, we're left with lots of moolah, meaning we have too many options & we all love a premium player in peak form, Barkley costs just over half of hazard, I bet if a budget midfielder played like hazard did, we wouldn't jump so eagerly

2- the value, I have always been a value manager, at 11 million, what's a decent output for hazard? At least 5-6 ppg, but with coutinho, ozil, KdB, I think good value would be around 7 ppg IMO

You can disagree, but for me, I'd want KdB ozil coutinho maybe even Mahrez before hazard

All this talk about hazard is really premature at this moment. Let's wait how he fare against bou then we can tell it getting him is a good choice.

Imo Chelsea will pick up steam and hazard will be one of the beneficiaries of that.

I don't disagree with what you said but this game is all about predicting the future. People who are buying Hazard are not concerned with what he did so far this season. They are simply predicting he will come good in next 4 as he has clearly improved over the last 3 matches and actually looked like scoring some points. Don't forget he has had 3 wonderful FPL seasons so there is no question of his potential or pedigree to earn points in this game.

the argument would be if you were considering buying Barkley at the beginning of GW13 would he really have been value for money at the time? He'd done little for 10 GWs. Same argument would apply to Coutinho GW11 (when i sold him for Mane).
Many of the comparative "budget" options seem to produce an exceptional GW every now and then but offer little in between. Mane, Eriksen, Bolassie etc.
Ozil and possibly KDB & Mahrez seem to be the only ones with consistent performances.
Whilst Hazard isn't worth rearranging a team for, he is possibly a viable punt for those looking to change Sanchez. Fixtures are good, playing form is improving and if he doesn't pan out he isn't going to hurt you financially when Sanchez is available again.

I kid you not its one of the reasons i make my transfer early. I can focus more on real things else i will keep dwelling and dwelling. Also, first instinct is stronger on Mondays after the GW and in most cases the more correct one. Nothing beats watching a game with your own eyes and not getting influenced by others.

        Agreed.
I like make early transfers early if there a definite price rise imminent. With one rise under your belt you can often delay having to take out that particular player weeks later because no team value will be lost.

Always remember there is no easier way to lose overall value than a player who is plummeting below the price you paid originally.

This is how I am currently lining up at the weekend:

    de Gea
    Cédric | Moreno | Cathcart
De Bruyne | Özil | Mané | Willian
    Kane | Lukaku | Ighalo

    King | Souaré | Janmaat | Hennessey

However, I find myself with 5.3M ITB and 0FT. I am open to a hit to get this money back on the pitch; any bright ideas? Alternative is to save and get involved with Aguero or Sturridge when Ighalo’s fixtures change for the worse.

Thing of beauty innit? Just great to have a team like them at their peak, I much prefer watching a tactically superior team with creativity all-around then more narrow teams like the Heat from a few years back. Warriors are just perfecting basketball right now.

I don't own any (sad face here) not sure I would captain Ozil with Arsenals injury problems. Palace seem to keep it pretty tight away from home as do Stoke at home, tough one but for KDBs form and I may also get him in and Captain my vote is for the Belgian.
