Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 34 – Thursday

Alexis Sanchez grabs both goals as Arsenal sweep aside West Brom in the final fixture of Gameweek 34. Aaron Ramsey supplies both assists upon his return to the starting XI, whilst Gabriel drops to the bench as the Gunners earn a fifteenth shut-out of the season.

Sanchez at the double

Arsenal leapfrogged Manchester City into third spot by virtue of a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Alexis Sanchez grabbed his second and third goals of the Gameweek, meaning he’s now produced attacking returns (six goals, three assists) in each of his previous seven starts. The Chilean subsequently ended Gameweek 34 on 25 points, just one less than Sergio Aguero, in what proved a titanic armband tussle between the duo. Considering that Mesut Ozil served up his sixth blank in seven outings, Sanchez has established himself as the clear favoured route into Arsenal’s attack ahead of showdowns with three of the current bottom four.

Drafted in for Francis Coquelin, Aaron Ramsey supplied the assists for both goals. Although the Welshman’s price tag (7.8) could furnish us with an alternate source of Gunners coverage, his lack of security of starts keeps him on the periphery of our thinking.

At the expense of Gabriel, Per Mertesacker made his first start in five fixtures and earned a single bonus point, whilst Olivier Giroud usurped Danny Welbeck as the Gunners’ lone striker. In both cases, one would imagine that the displaced player will regain their starting berths at Sunderland next time out, yet the uncertainty will likely prompt owners to explore their options given that Gameweek 35 is already without three fixtures.

Arsenal enjoyed their third clean sheet in five match-ups, positioning them joint-second for shut-outs (15) this term. With home matches against Norwich City and Aston Villa also still to follow, the North Londoners still boast strong clean-sheet potential in their final quartet of fixtures.

Baggies season stutters to a standstill

West Brom slumped to their fourth defeat in five outings as they managed a solitary shot on target at the Emirates.

Bearing in mind that Tony Pulis’ side have scored just once in the last five matches, investors in Spurs’ defence will be buoyed ahead of their duel at White Hart Lane on Monday. Indeed, having managed just a single clean sheet over that period, and with showdowns against West Ham United and Liverpool also to follow, those still holding the Baggies’ assets will surely be looking for a way out now.

9 players (if I'm lucky) this coming GW..
    Mignolet
    Sakho, Bellerin, Simpson
    Sanchez, Coutinho, Iwobi
    Kane, Aguero
Robles, Martial, Payet, Reid, Lanzini, Rojo
    3.2m, 1ft..

Any advice on what look like the best moves and replacements?

    Lanzini- Alli ?
    Martial- Defoe?

    Leaves 4.4mil for next GW..
    Replacing Coutinho instead leaves 7.7m

IMO Sakho, Couth, Iwobi all are rotation risks.
Maybe bring in Mahrez, Alli and Defoe for Lanzini, Couth and Martial? But wait till after presser.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

What to do with gold standard Liverpool?

So it appears Liverpool really were the gold standard of double Gameweek assets.

Over the DGWK 34 four of their players – Sakho, Firmino, Milner and Sturridge scored double figures. A further three – Coutinho, Lucas and Ibe - scored more than six points. All this came despite widespread rotation.

Considering they can deliver those returns over a double gameweek where rotation has been so prevalent is it worth hanging onto them for DGWK 37.

And this weekend, given Firmino was withdrawn early again and Origi looks to be sidelined does this mean that the Brazilian and Sturridge should be due a start?

Is it worth ditching Coutinho now? Will his owners really get five out of five games from him for the rest of the season?

Considering getting Milner over Alli - if I get RF I can't afford Kane...

Milner is now doing what we all thought he would pre-season, but few of us have him.

for those that have TC left, put it on Studge in 37. Please don't give me the Payet template. Last 8 west ham goals, he has one assist. one.

Great player. Not a great FPL asset (a good one though)

I'll monitor and be going in with one or 2 attackers from pool on my wc

I think Carroll has hurt Payet by making him no longer the focal point.

But it's so much fun having Dimitri in one's team...

That's the plan! Looking to do Martial ➡ Sturridge for free before GW36. Funds ITB and ready to go.

Only draw back is I won't be able to get Sanchez in for the home fixture vs. Norwich (not for free, anyway).

I agree. And since Carroll has been in the side, all they do is use him as a target man which doesn't give Payet the freedom he wants.

I'm thinking of shifting Payet for Alli and keeping Coutinho. I know Alli will score more than Payet this week at least. So car my two TC candidates are Sturridge and Carroll. Big Andy currently the key man for goals.

I've been through the Liverpool forums and there is a 50/50 split on the debate whether Sturridge will start this weekend or not.

50% think Sturridge will need to be rested and not risked, since there is only one fit striker available now. Firmino can take up the striker spot for Newcastle.

The other 50% think Sturridge will start v Newcastle and then taken off around 60mins since he only played 35ish mins v Everton and is on red hot form.

I'm personally waiting for the Saturday morning Liverpool leaked lineup now 😆

I'm not sure that 5 out of 5 games from Coutinho matters that much. Because a lot of us have used Bench Boost, we should all have strong 15 man squads and so most weeks we can cope with any rotation. When Coutinho does play, he scores. So it's just gwk 35 that is the tricky one.

It seems to me quite speculative whether he's going to play or not this week, and so i'm just going to take a hit to ensure that I've got 12 available (including the Brazilian), which will hopefully cover rotation if it happens.

Very good reasoning here! We should have enough backup in our squads for GW35+36 at least.

Liverpool has one (!) day rest between the CL semis on Thursday and the games on Saturday in GW36 and GW37. Klopp has shown before that he's willing to rest most of the team.

With Origi and Touré out, there might be a bit less rotation. But I think a lof of the first team regulars will not play in GW36 and the first game in GW37.

I don't think Coutinho will get five games. I think he'll get two or three. Maybe the one tomorrow, the last one in GW37 and the one in 38.

After this week, Liverpool always play on a Sunday, so they get at least 2 days rest. You're still right regarding the watford game though, 2 days rest prior to a double game week where they play chelsea in the second game - gotta be worried about minutes there.

I have Mignolet, Sakho and Milner and I'm hoping that they are all pretty safe now. They got a good rest last week and that should mean they are fairly nailed. If I had the big front three I would be much more nervous. I'm more concerned about KDBs minutes given Real Madrid 3 days later, so I'm probably going to do KDB > Alli tonight.

It's a reluctant retain at the moment for me. Want Alli in but removing Lanzini or Nasri (latter depending on Pelle's presser) is far more pertinent than getting rid of Coutinho, who nonetheless has a game and nonetheless has fixtures on paper, even if he's a doubt to actually play.

How have people fallen out of love with Payet so easily?

I could do Payet + Martial -> Sturridge + Alli

(which means I could bring in rotation-prone striker and leave Coutinho, a rotation-boud mid)

...but I think I will do Coutinho + Martial -> Pelle + Alli.

Liverpool were never "gold standard" in view of the rotation risk, that was a quite misleading concept.

Those that had 3 Liverpool in their GW33 wildcard/GW34 BB (including me) got very, very lucky. A 1-1 against Everton and the GW33 wildcard crashes and burns. It was only (partially) rescued by the fact that the most popular Liverpool players got decent 1-game scores.

It was always unlikely that Liverpool would rotate much for GW35, they have 5 clear days before Villareal. It is GW36&37 that are much more problematic.

If you can afford to bench them in GW36 and have them only play once in GW37 then there's no need to shed them, however. Taking hits to do so could also be inefficient depending on who else in your squad needs replacing.

      1. Biancazzurri
        • 11 Years

Yeah, but... Klopp has said that exactly (they almost have a week before Villareal), but he also said, in context of praising Sturridge, - 'We need to think about who will start.' Sturridge is his best striker and he still needs to think.

And his thoughts, despite all the 'nearly a normal week' logic, are about rotation.

'We know about the physical strength of Newcastle. We need a team who are really fit for this game' - what does that mean for the not so physical Coutinho?

He may not rotate in 35 as eagerly as he did against Bournemouth, and I can sense that the defence is more safe in that regard, but he can still rotate.

So with a lot of chips out of the way, what would you say was a good score in hindsight, or as a future benchmark?

Yes, I was doing a captaincy switch from Aguero to either Lukaku and Sturridge (both already in my squad) and because Sturridge was benched I went for Lukaku. If I'd gone for Sturridge I'd have made it with the goal off the bench and had 6 for 6 in the captaincy hauls. Ah well thats a very minor quibble in an amazing week! Oh wait one more, I also had a red card from Mori that stuffed it!

The January league runs from January to the end of May so I created that team in January yes, then I've been using ~2 transfers a week on it to get to where I am now. Apart from this week which was special and needed 6 captaincy flips so I used extra transfers this week.

    Hey lads. Worried about GW35

    Darlow
    Gabriel* Bellerin Simpson Sakho
    KDB* Coutinho* Milner*Sanchez
    Aguero Mitrovic*

Robles Martial Payet Delaney 1FT 0.4 ITB.

What do you think are the best moves?

KBD and Martial ---> Alli and Kane?

Can't afford Kame any other way unless I get rid of Payet

I see a transfer for a DGW player as being pretty much free anyway, and I'd rather keep potential starters for this week. Like me, you have enough rotation risk in your team already. No point taking out someone who might play when you have funds tied up in someone who definitely won't feature.

Good moves. What's not good about getting rid of two non-starters for two of the most in-form players who don't seem prone to rotation, are playing for a side with the biggest prize at stake and playing at home? Against all that, spending four points to buy back Payet for a DGW in which he is likely to return at least four points doesn't seem so bad, does it!

    Repost to a different crowd.

    Post mortem

    (A)
Typical BB in a SGW = 12 points.
This week BB = 16 points
    (Typical: Darlow + Simpson/Fuchs + Delaney/Gabriel + Lanzini/Mahrez)

Conclusion: Qualified Success. Assuming the true costs of hits, early wildcard, losing Kane/Toby, GW35 blank are minimal.

    (B)
    Typical TC in a SGW = 6 (Aguero's PPG)
    This week TC (Aguero/Sanchez) = 25

    Conclusion: Winning move

Even though TC and BB scores in absolute terms are not far apart, the disparity in terms of relative values are quite stark.

    1. MaxiRobriguez
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 18 days ago

Absolutely, although we'll see what 37 brings. I don't expect my TC to net 25 points like those who used that chip this week have benefitted from, but equally if the BB in 37 doesn't net any more points than the TC in 37, maybe because of weaker fixtures or even more rotation, then there was no real "correct" way of doing it even with hindsight.

    Done Hennessy/Payet to Lloris/Alli last night @-4.

It was 2am and I was half asleep but it was a sensible move ... right.. It makes 11 playing this weekend

    Playing WC next week.

Is -8 a step too far I have 11 but some really dodgy defenders ie. Wolly... Is it worth Martial to Carroll

After being150p behind in my ML around christmas I'm now only 33p behind leader. So the question would be; should I start loading up on dgw-players or get Alli/Kane/Mahrez etc.

I have 12 players playing this gw, but no tottenham.

I am considering Bolasie out, Willian in, but I could in stead buy Alli. But he has no dgw coming....

Welbeck could go for Kane as well, but then I would have to take a hit.

    My team at the moment;

    Robles/Darlow
    PvA, Simpson, Lovren, Gabriel, Evans
    Sanchez, KdB, Bolasie, Lanzini, Firmino
    Aguero, Welbeck, Martial

    So gamble, or go safe?

is -12 too much this week? Thinking of PVA/Defoe/Sturridge/Alli in for Delaney/Mitrovic/Martial/Coutinho. I would have 12 players with a GW this week ( but high rotation risks such as Sakho/Milner/KdB/Gabriel) and 10 players with a DGW in 37 without having to take further hits.

Think twice. This GW is expected to be a mid 30s one, so -12 will most probably cut you deep. As for the 37DGW planning, with all the rotations around (and potential injuries), you'll be happy to have half of those 37DGW playing (not starting)in both games.

Epic indeed. Invest some of those earned points to refresh your team. There's no point sitting back anticipating a red arrow or at best, hoping players you don't have don't score. That's not an enjoyable way to play FPL.
