The ScoutCast – Episode 156 – Champ

Myself, Granville and Jonty welcomed Fantasy Premier League royalty for this week’s episode, as reigning champion, Tom Fenley, made his belated ScoutCast debut.

Tom joined us to talk us through his difficult post-championship season, whilst lending his informed view the situation facing the current Fantasy Football Scout league leader, and FPL number one, Simon March, aka “Dufflinks”.

Of course, we were also glad to have Tom’s expertise on board to help us grapple with the latest round of topics fed to us by the community. Amongst the many issues tackled, we attempt to explain the withering form of Sergio Aguero, discussing the merits or otherwise of an Argentine exit strategy.

This episode was recorded on Tuesday evening with a live Hangout broadcast. If you missed that and you really want to catch up on the latest beard developments (Tom abstains from this), you can view the Hangout in full via the movie below.

If you prefer to have your ScoutCast slip down that little bit easier, you’ll be wanting the rather more slick and refined audio version via this link or the first player below.

Be sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel if you want to be kept informed of future live ScoutCasts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is this team good enough to compete with the WC-teams for DGW34:

    Schmeichel
    Terry Skrtel Schlupp
Hazard (C) Fabregas Coutinho Henderson Silva
    Aguero Austin

    Panti, Kane, Bertrand, Naughton

    8/11 starters has DGW
and the last three has AST (H) x2, and WHA (H)

    What to do with Austin?

    A) bring in Murray
    B) bring in gomis
    C) save trade. Bring in anyone next week as a 1 gw punt.

    * wildcarding in gw34

I'd be tempted to say C

It sounds like 33 is going to be a low scoring week with so many blanks, could be scope to make some ground up with 2 FT.

Hah, I'm debating if I bring in Remy or Berahino 🙂

Hmmm Gomis could be good too, but not liking early kick of there.
      So maybe C.

Hazard for me just because Chelsea game is on the day after Arsenal's trip to Burnley (Jose hopes Burnley can take something from the Gunners). Tottenham's midfielders are poor passers last 2 weekends and there weren't too many chances for Kane. Aston VIlla won't repeat that poor performance at the back from midweek and Sherwood against ex-team ... hmmm

        nice point ! 🙂

Also QPR has weak defending on the wings ... if Bolasie and Zaha have destroyed them, imagine what can Hazard do to them 😉

Exactly! Hazard is red hot all the season and he is real contender for player of the year award so this is one more reason to cap him.

Why's that? Double Chelsea has been poor lately and the next few fixtures aren't too promising defensively.

Southampton, on the other hand, looks more promising.

          • 9 Years

You would be removing the better DGW player for the worse one.

As you have to use a FT this week, i would recommend getting Mignolet/ Skrtel or Hendo.
Or if you like Southampton's defensive prospects do:
          Bellerin --> Clyne/Alder.

          1. Nickofoz

But I still have Ivan. Double Chelsea defence has been a nightmare so far. And I don't see too many clean sheets coming up for them. Maybe this week, maybe against leicester, apart from that not too many before GW35.

Getting Mignolet for Krul before GW34.

Getting rid of Bellerin for Clyne/Alder would leave me with 4 mid-priced to premium defenders.

A definite no from me. You don't have a wildcard, right?

As you stand now you have 3 nailed Chelsea DGW and no worries, why change that? You'll captain Hazard in DGW like most others so why fret about Remy?

Southampton have had their time, I wouldn't be bringing Clyne in. Quite honestly I'd just do Krul to Schmeichel this week and save the other FT.

      1. Nickofoz

        Cheers mate, and no.

Why change? Because double Chelsea defence has been the opposite of a differential lately and the next few fixtures don't look to promising for clean sheets. Southampton have good fixtures and are still tight at the back

You know my thoughts on Schmeichel 😉 Besides, I plan on doing Krul -> Mignolet in GW34 for the Liverpool double.

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

Yeah I forgot we discussed Schmeichel.

I just think without a wildcard you need to be economical. JT-Ivan-Hazard may not be your 1st choice right now but is it worth 2FTs to shift it around?

I wouldn't give up on the Chelsea defence too soon. 65 yard wonder goals don't happen every week - Stoke had 2 shots on target in the whole of the last game. And JT was on Chelsea TV the other night saying that with Costa out he believed their defensive strength would help to see them through.

Chelsea tend to defend at their best against the best teams. And I have no doubt that Costa out will concentrate minds.

Maybe just Austin to Berahino or Murray for the next 2 weeks? That's the direction I'd go in anyway.

            I do see your point.

Just because JT says their defensive strength will see them through doesn't mean they'll stop conceding goals imo. They have qpr, MUN, ars, lei and CPL in the next 5.

To be honest, I could see them conceding in all 5. qpr and lei are fighting for survival, and have been scoring loads lately. MUN and ars speak for themselves, as you say Chelsea do tend to defend at their best against better teams (which I agree with) but both of these teams are in their best form of the season, and will surely throw the kitchen sink at Chelsea. Palace are an attacking side under Pardew and are another team that are scoring freely.

So overall I'm not sure if it's worth tying up all of these funds in double chelsea. It's not like I'm giving up on Chelsea defence altogether (I'll still keep Ivan) but I'm just not sure it's as good a differential as it seemed weeks ago.

Since I don't have much else to worry about at the moment (Keeping Mane until GW34 to ditch for Hendo), 2FTS to switch Terry for Remy is probably worth it imo, especially if Costa is out for a long period.

Have you gone off Remy as an option yourself?

            1. Ruth_NZ
              • 9 Years
              9 years, 7 months ago

Not at all. I have a wildcard so my situation is totally different. I'm trying to put myself in your shoes.

I am looking after another team without a wildcard right now and already pulled the trigger on Austin to Remy.

Can you get 3 defenders in 33 without getting Morgan
Don't fancy LEI clean sheet against Swansea even at home...and considering they are going all gung-ho to try and get out of trouble

OK I think I have it sussed :

    Myhill (Foster)

    Terry Ivan Fonte (Haidara, Naughton)

    Haz Sanchez Mane Silva Boyd

    Kun Kane Austin

This week Terry > Dawson. punt on WBA cleanie and not sure on CHE cleanie. Keep Austin.

GW33 punts. Sanchez>Yaya, Naughton > Baines (exact money, would need no price change in Baines)

    Yes or No?

Since I doubled up on CHE defence it hasn't been productive. They are not shutting up shop very well. CHE play ARS in the double....who can score against anyone.

Sanchez > yaya would be a one week punt, can buy Sanchez back for only 0.1 than I bought him

No reason why not. On pens and involved in everything qpr do.

Qpr at home will be tricky for Chelsea even though I expect Chelsea to win.

I can definitely see him scoring this week. Chelsea haven't been very solid at the back recently and QPR have scored 7 in the last 2 games so will have confidence going forward.

Benching Kane and transferring out Austin are two different things really.

Austin has a difficult fixture followed by a blank. I'll need him gone for the blank anyway and for GW34 so deciding to (more than likey) do it this week to get someone in with a better fixture.

        Hi andy85.

What if your Austin replacement gets injured this week and it forces you to do a further trade next week?

That's a reason why I think keeping Austin for one more week makes sense.

What if Austin gets injured in the first minute?

I'm not saying that keeping Austin is a bad move but at the same time getting rid this week is perfectly reasonable too.

            I'd agree with this.

If you're loosing in 33 anyway, this week's fixture isn't easy, makes sense to lose this week.
The only issue is suitable replacements.

I know it's different, it was just a reference to playing Chelsea at home not being as difficult as it once was!

I think if I had 2 FT's and nothing else pressing then maybe Austin-Remy (or another DGW player) would make sense, but otherwise I would keep him.

lol, you really could be hooky with that answer!
(nice grav btw, better thant he pony tail years)

have to say the more hooky slags off the rest of the band (at least he's stopped rounding on gillian now) the less it endears him & the more he comes across as a bitter old man

great shame, it's demeaning the legacy of two amazing bands

Have you read Barney's book? I can totally understand why Hooky is bitter about it but he does need to let it go now. And he's probably got the better end of the deal as he's now playing the JD stuff.

Joy Division and early New Order is about all I'm listening to at the moment. Amazing what those 4 young men produced in such a small space of time in JD. Morris was a machine on the drums in those days (pun intended)!

not yet, nor either of hookys for that matter, though got both when they were released - read the david nolan bio of barney

(have heard some stories on both autobiogs, but that's not for the internet)

only recently started listening to movement & was much better than i remembered it

was at the opening night of hookys new club when he did his set with teh guest vocalists (& played that unreleased jd track) & also saw fourbass at the 100 club, as well as the light shows doing all the different jd sets & the new order ones so far as well
he's getting better at vocals & it's great seeing songs that i never saw new order play, but the current day new order live show has a better atmosphere (pun intended) even though you know what the set will be

That must have been great being at the opening night. Very jealous! I saw Hooky & the light last year and was really impressed with his vocal. Definitely more suited to JD stuff than Barneys vocal.

I've not seen New Order without Hooky but hopefully will one day. I'd imagine there is an awful lot less tension these days!

I think the worst thing in Barneys book is him taking all the credit for the direction New Order went in when Gillian actually had a very big influence on it.

Two great bands and an amazing story behind it all. The evil genius that was Martin Hannett will forever be remembered for those 2 JD albums!

anniversaryof hannett's death yesterday as it happens

they should be back out on the road this year - barney is clearly enjoying it more & having gillian back again helps too

mind you don't have to go back too far, say finsbury park the last time (the one where john simms guests for transmission) & barney & hooky were clearly getting on really well then

it went really bad really quickly

just realised i called them fourbass - it was freebass wasn't it - wrong number - although even then one was missing on the night

Hey guyz is it right to do..?

    Courtois. Heaton.
    Clyne. Fonte. Ivanovic. Koscielny. Moreno.
    Sterling. Hazard. Kouyate. Eriksen. Townsend.
    Giroud. Kane. Nugent.

Have 1.4 In bank and have 2FTs and 1 WC...

So thinking to replace Ivanovic with Bertrand and replace Nugent with Remy...

And in DGW if Costa fit to play then use my WC and take Ivan and Costa with some changes...

Go on Youtube a couple of hours after the press conference.

Type in "Mourinho press conference v QPR" or some such. You'll get a recording there.

Not every press conference is uploaded but the Chelsea ones always are.

I would be looking at Clichy, Walker, Monreal, Moses & Eriksen for shipping out and replace with DGW players - Hazard if you can afford him has got to be a priority. So your most expensive non-DGW defender > Schlupp to release some funds.

Think I'm going to save my FT this week because...

I can field 11 players with Philips, Naughton and Hutton on Bench
2FT's next week when we'll hopefully know more about Costa/Remy
Gives Aguero & Mane yet another week to come good
Another week to assess whether Coutinho/Sturridge should sit alongside hendo in my team

    Make sense?
