Captain Sensible – Gameweek 33

Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again tonight. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

This week’s Poll is something of a landslide, with Sergio Aguero’s return to form persuading just under 49% of voters to back the City frontman as West Ham pay visit. In spite of his double at Old Trafford, it’s fair to say the Argentine has toiled in front of his own fans this term – he’s netted in just four of his 12 Etihad appearances, with only one double-digit haul (albeit a monster 19-point return) at home all season. With Big Sam’s men conceding in all but one of their road trips, David Silva (3% votes) looks a real differential candidate, having served up 37 points (17, 11, 9) in his last three Etihad showings.

Palace duo Glenn Murray (17%) and Yannick Bolasie (5%) are amongst the most-favoured options as Alan Pardew’s side look for a fifth straight win this weekend. Six goals and four assists in his last six highlights Murray’s sublime form, with the 5.2-priced striker racking up three successive double-figure hauls ahead of the Baggies’ visit. Bolasie’s 24-point return at Sunderland has kick-started an almighty bandwagon – over 88,000 FPL managers have snapped up the midfielder, who has now delivered three goals and four assists in his previous four. Bearing in mind that the Baggies have shipped ten in their last three, Tony Pulis could struggle upon his return to Selhurst Park.

Harry Kane is just ahead of Eden Hazard (7% to 6%), despite his recent patchy form. Three blanks in the last four have diminished his armband appeal but a trip to Newcastle looks the ideal opportunity to return to scoring form – four of Kane’s seven double-figure hauls have been on the road this term. The Magpies have just two clean sheets in 20 league fixtures now and look unlikely to improve upon that record, judging by their insipid display at Liverpool on Monday night.

Hazard’s home encounter with United has deterred many. With a goal or assist in five of his last six, there’s no doubt the Chelsea winger is one of the most consistent options around, though it’s worth nothing that he’s scored in just one of his last seven at Stamford Bridge. Given that the visitors have just two clean sheets in their last six road trips – at QPR and Newcastle – Jose Mourinho’s men will be confident of getting amongst the goals on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere, the likes of Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku sit around the 1% mark as Everton entertain Burnley. The Toffees have four clean sheets in five at Goodison and with Sean Dyche’s side scoring once in the last six, a clean sheet, at least, looks on the card for the Merseysiders.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Never thought Glenn Murray would be the face of captain sensible!

Imagine even the thought of that 3 months ago especially in a week where Aguero is home to West Ham 🙂

Its strange how people are just assuming that Crystal palace will beat West Brom convincingly and going after their players rather than DGW players.

liverpool and hull bith have two fixtures in the next two weeks. Palace have the same number of fixtures + form + both at home

Most already have 3 chelsea and lei are very very unpredictable from an fpl pov

I have seen teams with Boyd or Schlupp on the bench and all they care for is whether to get Bolasie or Puncheon or Jedinak.
Also every team has a few bad results but Tony Pulis is proven PL manager , very good at defensive organization and against his former employers he will have a point to prove.

Depends if you have a WC. I think most folks are taking 1 week punts on CP players cause they can ship out the following week for DGWers. That is certainly my plan with Murray. Fret not. We are not all dolts!

Just did Naughton --> Schlupp to field 11 players, what are your opinions on the following 'problems' in my team:

    - Had to double up on wba (Myhill + Dawson)
    - What about the whole Clyne affaire?
    - Remy fit to play?

Will probably take a hit somewhere, but which problem is the most important?

They need to score goals, with Arsenal breathing down their necks, they need wins and goals equal win. I expect Remy to start all games in the DGW starting with the Man U game this weekend.

Arsnenal breathing down their necks? They need goals and wins? I dint think people realize how comfortable a position chelsea are in atm

assume they lose to Utd this week and arsenal beat them, the gap is then 4 points. With Liverpool and Palace to play (jose record against Pardew not great). It is correct to say that Chelsea are not sitting comfortably. Might I add, Chelsea are not playing well atm.

Obviously this is about 400 minutes old, and not a dig at Pool because Coutinho has been way better in open play, but for the United fans..just imagine what Di Maria will contribute once (if) he starts to really gel with the squad and with LVG's system

since this Coutinho has added 4 created chances and Di Maria's added 2 assists and 2 chances..

The stats make it look like hes been getting goals and assists despite being crap when thays not even the case. He got most of them when he was good

Im thinking B too but worried about Sterling (chasing 25 or so points and ML leader will almost certainly have him)

    * Indicates no game

    Courtois

    Jones Toby Bert

    Hazard Silva Sanchez* Coutinho*

    Aguero Kane Giroud*

    No playing subs.

Would you do Coutinho & Giroud to Bolassie & Rooney and field 10? Or other ideas?

I think the United game will either be 0-0 or 1-0 United, I don't see Chelsea attacking much at all. They don't really even need to.

This is why I am not going after Mata or Fabregas for my 1 week punt off of Sanchez. Since I already have Murray, I will spread it around a bit by likely going to Yaya, as lame he has been of late. 2 palace still an option, but feels all or none. Then again, if I get Yaya, I'd have 3 City players! If I get Fab, 3 Chelsea! If I get Mata, 1 Man Utd. Okay, I am done debating myself.

No, but it means taking a hit. I would need him to score at least one more than Rooney just to get back even. But I cant see the Chelsea game being very high scoring.

Aguero hasn't being firing at home lately but he's always capable of something special!

Is this a sensible -8 pretty safe for the DGW?

    Mahrez > Henderson
    Eriksen > Sterling
    Fonte > Moreno
    Kane > Vardy

Risky to sell Kane but we're effectively playing with 10 men so I fancy a gamble this late in the season. This is only way I can get Liverpool coverage without sacrificing Sanchez, Silva or Aguero. Reckon the -8 will pay itself off with that trio in the weeks after the DGW?

It would give me this for GW34:

    Myhill (LIV)
Ivan (ars lei), Moreno (wba hul), Morgan (bur CHE)
Hazard (ars lei), Sterling (wba hul), Henderson (wba hul), Silva (AVL)
Aguero (AVL), Remy (ars lei), Vardy (bur CHE)

    Foster, PVA, Lescott, Sanchez

Reliant on Remy making the DGW.

IF you have Aguero and Silva, no need.
I am looking at Bolasie or Lennon
